Awards

Max is too self-effacing to post something — or maybe he hasn't heard yet — but yesterday, at the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies conference, he won second place in the blogging category, specifically for posts on the Huckabee gift registry scandal and a post on election night 2006 cautioning against complacency. Associate editor David Koon also won second prize in the arts feature category for his series on local artisans designated Arkansas Living Treasures (parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

I'm here at the conference in Portland with several of our sales and business staff, and I just sat in on a roundtable discussion with other small paper editors, and I guess I was a little surprised to discover that very, very few other alt-weeklies of similar size blog with anything even approaching the prolificacy of Max.

Still, it's onward and upward: look for us to only increase our web output, especially in new blogs and features, in the coming weeks and months.

PS -- Thanks, Alan, for this post. But if we won an award for blog entries, particularly on the Huckabee wedding registry, a tip of the hat is required to Warwick Sabin, who broke that story before he moved on to higher ed.

PPS -- "Prolificacy"? It must be cocktail hour in Portland.

Comments

Well I'll be.

I thought there were only 8 or 9 ultra-liberal, tree-hugging, homo- and Messicun-tolerating socialists reading the AT blog who do nothing but agree with each other -- circle-jerk-style.

Congratulations, and thanks for a great set of forums.

Congrats AT and Max......it is good news and a great big "THANK YOU" for all you guys do for us "liberals."

So who won the best escort service ad design award?

Congratulations, Max, and everyone else at the AT. Most of us regulars (liberals and conservatives) recognize what a treasure we have in the AT Blog. It's a place where we liberals can share thoughts and ideas --- and ignore the conservatives.

Congratulations!! It's well deserved recognition.

Awwww R-I-G-H-T! Congrats to all!

How's about them Arkies.....
woooooooooo pig.....soooooie

Congratulations Max and David. Thanks for winning one for the home team!

Super! Congratulations. Best wishes for provoking more headaches in those wingnuts who might benefit from thoughtful provocations. May your prolificacy proliferate without prolonged prolixity.

You GO Maxwell.

No surprise but certainly a hard earned and much deserved award. Congrats Max and Warwick, you all have embraced this new medium with gusto. I am sure many more awards will grace your cyber-walls in the years ahead.

When they broadcast these awards as net shows in the future...everyone should wear fantastic PJ's and smoking jackets.

I'd say "profligacy". It's still a good thing.

Right on...

Nice going Max and AT staff.
Thanks for giving us a place to vent.

Congratulations! And as we all know....No.2 tries harder. Wait till next year!

Congratulations, Max!

You're No. 1 in my book. Hard to see how anyone could do it better.

I demand a recount.

it is thrilling to be able to read a local blog that is the quality and a leader in the field that this one is. we are lucky that there has been national news from here for the times to cover and give them a chance to show off their wordy skills. it is nice to be able to look at the community from a liberal point of view yet maintain a sense of humor. congratulations arkansas times, you have given me many hours of enjoyment, thought and friends although i wish i knew who ya'll were.

Red, have you run out of mobile home parks to visit?

Max and AT,
Congrats on the well-earned recognition. You have a great product both on newsprint and on the web.
At the time of the death of the late, lamented "Arkansas Gazette," I told friends that the Arkansas Times had become the most important publication in Arkansas if for no other reason than it presented alternative views to a measurable, statewide number of people.
Now let's get serious. How about a piece on the appalling lack of reparations for Paris Hilton?
Don't want to stir up trouble or anything.

ARK. BLOG: No Paris news today. How about Nicole Richie?

Well deserved. Congratulations. MaxB and the AT are a state treasure.

A belated congrats!

Congratulations Max and David for having the greatest brog in town.
