Heisman hopeful in drag
Have I missed this? Hog Heisman hopeful Darren McFadden used to wear dresses to class in high school. From USA Today's big football issue:
Last Halloween, the most recognizable 19-year-old in the state went to his classes in complete disguise. Wearing a clown suit, complete with rainbow wig, oversized glasses, a fake cigar, striped shirt, enormous yellow pants and wide suspenders, McFadden could have struck a Heisman pose and still remained anonymous.
However, those who know McFadden from his high school days in Little Rock might not have blinked twice at such antics.
"He wore dresses to school," says McFadden's favorite high school teacher, Leecie Henson.
Say again?
Yes, dresses. And not just on Halloween.
At times, McFadden would raid his grandmother's closet, and who knows where else, and wear the most hideous looking outfits he could find to school. "He has the ugliest legs ever," Henson says. "He would wear these dresses with tennis shoes, and after a while the teachers would get used to it. He just loves to make people laugh."

So you are telling me this is the best you can do to combat the Arkansas Family Council?
I mean, there is nothing that screams pro-gay foster parenting than a tranny Heisman trophy candidate.

I would like to hear what Jerry Cox and Ronnie Floyd think about a cross-dressing Arkansas icon?

I assume your tongue was planted firmly in your cheek when you wrote that, Red.
You know, "tranny" usually refers to transsexual -- not transvestite. Do you know the difference?
And neither one is necessarily the same as homosexual.
They're all freaks, though, right?

Hugh, I think the word tranny was used to mean both a car transmission and a transvestite long before transgendering operations were available.
I remember in the '80s when lots of straight hippie boys wore dresses just to be weird. I think DMac shares their sense of humor.

The '07 Razorback pocket football schedule doesn't include a photo of McFadden. Or Jones.
Why would a college football marketing department exclude their Heisman contender?

The only thing that bothers me about this is the fact that they say his high school was in Little Rock. He went to Oak Grove High School in North Little Rock.

What does the schedule picture? I'm sure John White lobbied for a picture of the gymnastics team. Or a pile of pocket protectors.

The schedule features game action photos, names of Robert Felton, Weston Dacus, Casey Dick and Ernest Mitchell (all certainly deserving), but no McFadden.
The background photo is of the team marching into the stadium with Nutt being fairly prominent being the only unhelmeted person in the shot.

Does anyone know whether Darren was in his grandmother's gear when his toe was damaged? I guess someone was envious of his dress, huh? And, trying to run the ball in a dress---whew--what a sight.

Only a young man supremely confident in his masculinity or oblivious to what others might think or say about it would wear a dress to high school. I suspect DMac is both.

We could probably list other reasons, too; however, in DMac's case, it could've been a way to express his comedic side.
