Long shot
The Washington Post political blogger has long been sweet on Mike Huckabee. How sweet is it to have the blogger assess the strength of the campaign by primarily quoting the candidate on same? But this long assessment also gathered input from some other sources. Bottom line:
Huckabee himself compares the presidential primaries to a NASCAR race. "There are cars in the first few miles that look unbeatable," he said. "They are out front and alone. But they can't sustain the fuel burn rate. They are going to blow up their engines before it's over."
The reality is that it is unreasonable to think Huckabee will ever put together an organization that will match that of Romney, McCain or even former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Why? Because he is not now nor will ever be in the same financial strata as the Big 3.
Huckabee's route to the nomination is by exceeding expectations in Iowa -- starting with the Aug. 11 straw poll in Ames. If he can build momentum in Iowa, he may be able to overcome the organizational deficiencies he has in other early states. But, that's a big if.

The Post is owned by the Korean Moonies, is it not? If so, then that will explain a lot.

But they can't sustain the fuel burn rate.
That's pretty fancy talk. Don't know what the hell he's talking about and neither does he. How lonely it must feel to slog along in 11th place in a political party that has ruined its chances of delivering a winning candidate for the office of President for the next 20 years.
But I forgot for a moment that Huck ain't running for the Oval Office, he's running to fill his golden retirement account. So, though the money coming in is pocket change to Mormon Mitt, it will sustain Huckabee's fuel burn rate very nicely for years and years to come.
Can we please start changing the the names on the 2 dozen things recently named for a Huckabee in this state? I just drove past the sign for The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center and it always makes me pukey. The place only has 170 acres and her name takes up about 150 of that.
She's not from here, she didn't do squat to get her name on that long sign. We don't know her......and aren't interested in knowing her in the future.
She showed up one time wearing a fur coat to talk to the kids about respecting nature....in a fur coat....in a fur coat. The whole family is nuts.....

DBI, that "fur" probably come off'n a few dogs, coons and other critters that the Huckabee boys shot in the mansion's backyard. Did it have a white stripe down the back of it? Or a matching hat?

As usual, Huck comes up with the nice, folksy, southern-middle-class (NASCAR) quip that diverts attention from the issue at hand. Where even a casual observer of both politics and NASCAR will see the failure in his metaphor is that NASCAR restricts everyone to the same size fuel tank, so buirn rate matters. But if Li'l E were allowed to run Daytona with a 150 gallon tank and no restrictor plate all those boys with lower burn rates would eat his Goodyear dust - just as Huckabee will the front-runners'.

I think Theo i s on to something,
Metaphor Burnout. Good one dude.
After my first few times of dropping back in on reality in the 90s and listening to some of Huck's talks, I wondered: Is it me or is this guy just a little fucked up in his use of metaphors?
