Next? Sofas on the porch?
Fayetteville got the smokers, now it's going after those who park too many cars and boats in their yards. Except on Hog game days, of course.

Despite growing up in the Ozarks, where wealth is measured in old-cars-up-on-blocks, I find it odious to turn the corner onto my street and see half a dozen crappy little purple cars with missing hubcaps and taped-up windows parked all over the new neighbor's front yard. We should be so lucky that this city would do something.

Does this have anything to do with the hilarious line in Crash about "an advanced culture that can communicate to everyone how to park their cars on their lawns"?

This junker-in-the-yard practice is already illegal in Little Rock.
It's just that nobody enforces the law.

This thread and the one about NLR's proposed noise ordinance reminded me about the book, "The Tipping Point."
Among other scenarios the book described how New York City turned itself from a crime-ridden frightening place that was the butt of nightly crime jokes on the late shows into a more pleasant place to live and visit.
The turnaround began when the city started enforcing the "small" laws against graffiti, sleeping in the subways, etc.
Little Rock's problems with cars with speakers that rattle tall buildings, deadly disregard for traffic laws, parking in the yard, etc., communicate the message that laws don't matter and that you can probably get away with the bigger stuff like gang-banging, bank robbing, dope sales and other stuff because the city can't even enforce the small stuff.
It would be nice if the city directors were required to read "The Tipping Point," or at least the chapter about New York City.
ARK. BLOG: Good point. Fayetteville, I think, is serious about such things. See their noise ordinance and smoking ordinance and enforcement of the blinking sign ordinance.

It seems that LRPD tries to avoid the paperwork associated with "minor" infractions. Example: Cop is at stop light when motorist takes off, truns left onto 2 way st. on red light.

Is Fayetteville now owned and managed by the Disney Corporation or did the Waltons buy out Disney?
People park cars where they have to..and when you live with one or two folks renting each and every room of a house, well, things are going to stack up a little.
If it's okay for a sports fan it certainly ought to be okay for a resident who is just trying to get by.
I don't like the look of it either but for goodness sakes Fayetteville, get a life.
If government is going to make such laws then they need to provide free safe parking close to every home in which they want this sort of thing enforced.. Not everyone can afford a three car garage or to be fined for parking a car which they have to have in order to live in our society, especially in old neighborhoods that were not designed with multi-car ownership in mind.
Parking a car in ones own yard is not at all the same as grafitti or blasting noise from car stereos or even second hand smoke..
Another attempt at charging poor people for being poor.
What's next. prison for failure to use mouthwash?

Drop a gay bomb on 'em, but be careful --- don't accidentally hit Eureka Springs.
And, Max, how about a Paris Hilton update!
ARK. BLOG: I'm working on it. I heard they were going to do a prisoner swap with Howard County to get her out of media reach. Can I get you to string it for me?

I see the Bush era is working as planned. What's wrong with this country is there aren't enough laws! People practicing free choice have got to go! Osama bombed NYC because of double-parking and peeling trim around too many windows.
The world will be a much better place when we are a uniform society. Every blade of grass too tall is offensive to Jesus. How dare anyone not be like me! Can't you see I've worked my ass off for 30 years to make my brick veneer cracker box into a palace befitting my station in life?
Individuality breeds unrest. Sick and old alike can take care of their yard and house, my aunt did it with her uterus dangling between her legs. By god if she can do it......everyone can!
In Luke, chapter 7 it is revealed that the true meaning of life is to be exactly like everyone else. Clone and be cloned. And how wise of those Middle Eastern people of long ago to see that the one true way is that of 51 year old white men from America. Edge your yard, smoketh not, throw eggs at old black women sitting on their porches in their tacky couches. Except of Aunt Jemima, we don't like them anyway.
The only reason to get up in the morning is to please the guy next door. Who can sleep knowing they've upset people obsessed with yard maintenance? Why can't everyone be white? Why can't Yard Nazis have their own Gitmo? A little torture and every house will be just like I want it to be.
I'm so glad that Fort Baptist has bought a set of rules to unleash on the city July 1st. I'm so happy that they've hired extra personnel, hired a new judge and created a whole new court to punish those who hear the beat of a different drum.
FK friendly, let's kick some unkempt yard ass! I should choose what goes on next door! I hate people too poor to keep their cars running. Buy some lights to paint at night after you're done with your 2nd job....lazy bastids!
Old people should be forced to sell out and move to a home and be doped into submission. They had their time...move over!
We've no time for the poor, the sick, the old, or the different. The Republicans are starving them off, and killing any young that might come back to park incorrectly. 3512 people I know won't be around to upset the retired couple across the street....so there's a start on the next generation of violators!
With the Republicans doing such a good job, it's the Democrat's job to harass and belittle until everyone not like us gets the message that we don't want them around.
So let's Bush-up and crack down on these scofflaws daring to lead their own lives as they see fit. How unAmerican of them! Privacy fences are for sissies!

Springdale did the same ordinance in 2005 with the square footage thing all worked out..mostly aimed at Messicuns who know that a two bedroom duplex sleeps 8 so expect cars to be parked at each side of the duplex.
But over in the old rental area North of UoA those cars in yards are pissin the yuppies who build carefully crafted urban dwellings .
Fayetteville had an ordinance about non-operating vehicles for at least 20 years.
