Road trip!

The Young Republicans of Arkansas apparently have stumbled across my name on YR membership rolls in Virginia in 1968. (Alas, I cannot tell a lie. It's true. They promised weekly keg parties when I matriculated at W&L U.)

I"ve received an e-mail invite to join the "Huck-a-Bus," a group of young Arkansas volunteers who'll motor to Des Moines Aug. 9-12 to help persuade participants in the Iowa Straw Poll to vote for The Huckster. They'll all be carrying copies of Ernest Dumas' article on his record in Arkansas, not to mention his tireless work in behalf of freeing Wayne Dumond. Won't they?

Says the invite:

Years from now -- possibly in the middle of another Clinton presidency -- you may ask yourself, "What could I have done differently?" or "How could I have done anything?"  Don't wait until then...ask yourself now, "Why not?" and get on board the YR Huck-a-Bus!  Make a difference today--affect the future with your positive actions--join the YRs and many more next week and keep America in strong conservative hands.

It's BYOB and BYOFood. Celery sticks, apples and sparkling water, I presume, are preferred. I ain't boarding without a bag of Olde London cheese waffles, a six-pack of Rheingold chug-a-mugs and a bottle of Piney River Apple Wine.

Email Leslie Rutledge at info@afyr.org if you are interested. She promises: "The Huck-a-Bus will be a fun trip that you will remember for the rest of your life!"

We could pass the hat for you to take the trip...blog it back to us. It's the dog days of Summer. All that's left is watching Rw Mafia get caught stealing from the public treasury and that's getting so commonplace it's become boring. So just go for it Max. I'm in for $20 for your YR Quest for the Ultimo Huck.

Oh yeah...I'm there...with some of that cheap red wine I love so much (especially the muscadine, mmm).

Could MH really have approved "Huck-a-Bus"???

"...YR Huck-a-Bus! Make a difference today--affect the future with your positive actions--join the YRs and many more next week and keep America in strong conservative hands."

Now that's funny no matter who you are...Huck-a-bust!

You guys/gals obviously haven't been around some of these young Republicans. They know how to have a good time and get the message out.

Which message would that be? The "I wrote a book on how to lose weight and you could too if you'd get up off your fat @$$ and get someone else to pay for it" message or the "No need to crowd our jails with rapists and murders" message?

Just curious

Yep! let's party...just think you could be in Iraq making a difference!

Actually no, I couldn't be in Iraq right now. I have a disability that keeps me from being in the armed forces. However, my cousin did make a difference. He was murdered by those terrorist SOBs over there. What's your take?

First thing that came to my mind was a colon full of that popcorn Styrofoam stuff you pack goodies in for shipping. Can you think of anything with less substance than a bus full of Young Republicans traveling the country talkin bout Huck? By God that's what our country needs in our moment of crisis!

I'd be laughing except there are a lot of our young people their age dying in Iraq at the moment. We don't have a FK'ing clue why they're over there, but they are and very few of them are from Republican families. This kids should swing by anonymous's house, pick him up and head on down to the recruiting office at the local mall. Take your Bibles and your Bob Dole blow-up dolls and go fight for your country boys and girls. Us old folks will stick around and take care of all the impeachin while you're gone.

Now I remember! I saw a Sally Jessie Raphael show one time that had a woman on there crying and carrying on because her husband turned out to be a woman. His penis which she never saw in the light, turned out to be a condom filled with a tube sock.....I'm not making this up.....maybe she was, but I'm not...anyway....this bus load of goofy R kids working for Huckabee strikes me as worthless as a condom filled with a tube sock. No telling what other comparisons will spring into my head while I go eat my nice pork loin dinner that's cooking. Mmmmmm smells good!

Max, a young repub? shock and dismay. The poor judge! Your secret is out.

Y"ou guys/gals obviously haven't been around some of these young Republicans. They know how to have a good time and get the message out."

My hat's off to you if you can travel the country on a bus cheering a last-place candidate in a field of Republican losers...and have a good time. There's not a drug that good.

Actually I can think of something with no substance: the current Democrat-controlled Congress. While the YRs are out doing something meaningful and positive for the country, the Dems in Congress have accomplished absolutely nothing, which is probably a good thing considering the legislation they'd REALLY like to pass....legislation which is nothing more than socialism and huge tax increases for the country.
And speaking of Iraq, I'd just like to pour some more salt in the wounds of you libs who got taken to the cleaners by that article in the NY Times yesterday:

Enjoy!

Having served 8+ years in Uncle Sam's Army back in the 70s, my take is that this is a war we were duped into; the Bin Laden folks were in Afghanistan; we all but covered up the Saudi involvement; we were the invaders of Iraq and this ignited the Muslim fanatics across many lands to come and battle the Crusading infidels who meant to destroy Islam.
Each of our sons and daughters that have died over there only heightens my sense of the waste and stupidity commissioned by this evil administration. Bush and company completely f**ked up from the real mission needed in Afghanistan to pursue a petty revenge against Saddam. In the process, they reinvigorated this terrorist beast that now sits red in tooth and claw throughout the Middle East, its tentacles reaching further and further out.
If the Moron in Chief hadn't been such a fool and a pawn of such Constitutional wrecking powermongers, then just maybe we would have had a sensible and defensible plan of taking on Bin Laden and the Taliban.
As one who served under trying circumstances in an unpopular war, the more I study my history, the more I learn how easy it is for leaders to mislead the American public. Sadly, it is true if not worse for our brothers and sisters around the world, no matter what color their skin may be or what deity they may worship. We are so easily motivated into hating one another, singly or en masse.
Don't think we are immune because of our so-called civilized trappings. The American Civil War still lies bitterly unresolved in the hearts of many a Southern "gentleman." If such hatred and resentment can still be evident after more than 140 years, just imagine how fiery and vile it must be after only a few years in this struggle going on now.
No the children of freedom must suffer under this self-anointed Pharoah and his lying minions who have caused plagues and destruction to be loosed upon our land because of his empty mind and hard heart. His weaknesses and infirmities have led him to foolishly trust the company of wretches bent on sullying this great nation with their tawdry and terrible machinations.
We weep for our lost children devoured by the evil gods of war; we despair for our lost country, its ideals rotting away from neglect and abuse; we cry for our world, ripe with so much potential but seemingly doomed to self-destruction.
We weep, we despair, and we cry. Is there truly Hope for mankind to come to terms with its greatest enemy: its own people?

If Hillary could be a Goldwater Girl at the time she started college surely it is okay for Max to sign up and drink the Young Republicans' beer.

Max, if you get on that bus, watch out for the Kool-Aid. Apparently they've been passing it out in advance to a few of the above posters.

i say get on the bus with your beer and wine just to see hucks face when you get off. make sure he knows someone from the banned media is there beforehand.

Jake, your comments make me think of my contention that what we have brought about in Iraq is described in the 12th Chapter of Matthew, starting at Verse 43: "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places seeking rest, but he finds none. Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and brings with him seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first."

If Hillary could be a Goldwater Girl at the time she started college surely it is okay for Max to sign up and drink the Young Republicans' beer.

So Bill, Do you really think Hillary is anything other than much further right than Goldwater would be today? I think Hillary and the DLC platform is much further to the right than Barry would have ever considered going. (with only a few small exceptions)

Although I agree for many different reasons that the Dems have dropped the ball on far to many occassions. The Republicans have blocked more legislation this year then the Dems did over several of the past years combined. Republicans are obstructing everything in an almost evenly divided congress. And republicans couldn't even finish their own bills last year, like the budget, so the Dems had to do a lot of very basic house work your incompetent war mongering party couldn't pull together inside its own majority.
And you Republicans drove our country in financial shambles worse than all other deficits combined in our history... so don't even think about claiming any credibility on budgetary matters.. You offered nothing, accomplished less, and still ran the treasury into generations of red.
As for Iraq... I know you pro murdering torture types have no shame even in utter humiliating defeat.. but for a moment I will assume you are citing the same NYT article Vice President Cheney cited on Larry King tonight.. First of all the article is a bunch of lies written by a couple of guys for the sole purpose of giving Cheney the very same kind of out tonight as he did with Tim Russert on Meet The Press re Niger Forgery.. Your play book seems to have run out of gimmicks... and the people are waking up.

Jake, Thank you for putting it so well.. I am afriad I see many of the original motives that led us to the current situation in the middle east much more sinister than you.. but you touch on so many fine points so well..

We have a lot of work to do..

In case anyone missed the Max Blummenthal video (Young Republican Chickenhawks) of a recent young Republican convention in St Louis.. see the link at my name.. you don't want to miss it or ask Max to get on that bus..

I would rather have a root canal than root for Huckabee.

Max, for the love of Pete, do NOT board that bus. Think about it, man. Four days trapped on a bus with a bunch of twenty-something 99% white pseudo-Christian Republican tyros (possibly packing heat and a flask) -- is my own nightmare of Hell on Earth. I can't imagine worse torture, but one need only look to our national leadership for some tips in that realm.

" ... While the YRs are out doing something meaningful and positive for the country .... "

Somebody buy that man or woman a PBR for the best line of the week, provided legal drinking age has been reached.

Jake, that's one of the best summaries of the Bush error. We all know that dubya hisself isn't the genius behind his own evil empire. He's only and ever been the front man. so, that is to say that he is more stupid than evil. (Hey, I just paid the president a compliment!)

NoCommieDems, I'm not at all opposed to your opinion of our D-controlled Congress. I'm a little peeved at them right now myself. They are clearly not holding up their end of the Constitution, and they'd better get a grip (and a side of huevos) because we are fixing to lose our country. Doing something meaningful and positive my hind end.

CJ John Roberts, we're keeping you in our thoughts.

Read carefully. It makes no mention of Huckabee riding on the YgRpubs bus. Nope! Huck will be jetting into Iowa...no bus for that boy. Why not get a mule and hay-filled wagon for the YgRpubs? At slow speed they can talk to people bout Huck as they walk the sidewalks of America.

At 2mph with an old mule, they'll get to Iowa about the same time that Huck gets to the White House. What time is that you ask? How about half past never! Huckabee '08 is the new Y2K!

>>Actually I can think of something with no substance: the current Democrat-controlled Congress. My oh My! Was that load Ship High In Transit. Let's put on our rubber gloves and gas masks and unpack it.

Accomplished nothing. Oversight, commonly referred to as HEARINGS are going just fine even though the previous Congress saw no need to monitor the Bridge to Nowhere and other crimes save for outing Tom DeLie from office. So much is being accomplished and though little of it is a rubber stamp for Bushit it will serve all of us well. You included Nocommie. The minimum wage was increased. The Iraq War funding was limited and a legislative move made to get our troop redeployed but Bushit and the Wingnuts in Senate vetoed those which should cost just about every Wingnut their re election bid.

Could MH really have approved "Huck-a-Bus"???

I don't doubt it. Recall the summer LT Gov special election in '93, where campaign events would proudly feature and invitations would proudly extol the "Huck-a-buck Dancers." I kid you not. We used to laugh about that all the time.

All good young Republicans should either be in Iraq right now or waiting to return.

And all good republicans, young and old, ought to be stepping up to pay the huge debt we've incurred for that war. Why should my taxes go up even $1.00 to pay for this stupid, illegal, war?

Republicans wanted a war, they got a war, and now they ought to pay for that war. They screeeeeetch about Dems wanting to raise taxes, while they spend, spend, spend, spend, and spend money we don't have.

Hypocrites from the word "Go".

O.K. Let me just say that I went to New Hampshire for Wesley Clark's presidential campaign and had a blast! So what if the Huckster isn't going to win! It's a great way to get involved in the process and see what American politics is all about. I'm sure the YR's will have fun and will learn a lot. I may not agree with them, but I can appreciate their dedication.

EA, funny how there's something about being a rich, white, young republican that goes hand in hand with having injuries that prevent you from serving in the armed forces. Is there something in the caviar?

http://vimeo.com/244640

Caviar? Never had it. I don't come from a crowd that would have it, or much less (unfortunatly) know how to say it. Also, yes, I'm white. Mama and Daddy are white, so I didn't have a choice at that. Got some Blackfoot in me, though... but you can't really tell it from all that dang Irish blood. Are you angry because your gene pool isn't what you wished it would've been? Please don't think of yourself as a waste of sperm and egg.

You know, it's really funny how people like ArgentaGirl hate rich people. I'm not rich and I certainly don't hate those who have money. It's capitalism. Maybe people like her (hopefully I assume correctly in the name meaning it is a female) should get out and be proactive for a candidate of their choosing. Or better yet, maybe they should give their hard earned money to the poor Democrats running for office. Really, even poor Edwards can't afford anything but Wendy's for his anniversary. Better yet, give your money to Hillary. She's so broke she can't keep her accent straight. Lastly, maybe send a 20 to poor Al Gore. I hear he's having to cut back on his jet fuel consumption. Even worse, he's having to move out of his 10,000 square foot cozy home to a dreadfully smaller 8,000 square foot home. These poor soles need your help.

EA, I don't "hate" the rich, I grew up with money (plenty of it.) What I do "hate" is people like you who turn their backs on those who don't have money. I spend a good portion of my time supporting candidates. I will not, however, support a joke of a candidate like Mike Huckabee whose solution to healthcare is to tell fat people to lose weight (maybe his wife should take his own advice.) I'm sure our healthcare problem has nothing to do with the millions of Americans who are uninsured. That is the problem with your "kind", EA, you are so wrapped up in your own problems that you are too busy to see what's going on with other people. Mike Huckabee, despite growing up poor, is so brainwashed by Republican politics that he can't even comprehend what it is like for many of our Arkansan families and children who are living without health insurance.

I hope you took a second out of your busy campaigning time to view that video I posted. Did "asthma" prevent you from going into the armed forces as well? Or did you really have more important things to do?

The Y.R.'s should try this. It sounds like a fun fundraiser.

"It's a fun day. It's a family day."

Fundraiser to feature machine guns
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070725/od_nm/usa_guns_newhampshire1_dc_1

No, Argenta, it's not "asthma," and I won't disclose what it is on here - it's an emotional subject for me. Quite frankly it almost upsets me that you'd think otherwise - especially since you have no idea who I am. And since you're so caught up with my lack of ability in protecting our freedom, were you even in the armed forces? If not, then get off my back.

I guess what I don't get is how you think "people like me" don't care about others. The YRs care plenty for other people - especially when we see their potential. What we do not do, however, is give handouts to people who have potential to be something more and choose not to do anything with their life other than rely on the government.

Yes, there are some people who have no other choice than to live pay check to pay check. Those people I gladly help - through my church. Those people I do care for. However, when people who can achieve so much sit back and waste what talent they do have, it's sickening and disheartening.

You see, it's not about "give, give, give" when you're not making anyone else better for it. It's about giving AND teaching AND letting others help themselves.
