On my way to Cornerstone Pub in Argenta for the Louis Jordan tribute. Might even see some of you there, but of course I won't recognize you.

I see you gave a page in this week's Times to the toadies trying to chew up War Memorial Park.
The references to large parks in large cities is totally disingenuous. But, nothing about their argument stands up to examination. If they must find some scam to dump tax dollars along side private development they should at least find something that needs doing rather that screw up midtown.
Litte Rock already has a central park for all of its citizens. It is called Boyle Park. If the city had made any effort over the last 20 years to invest in that area of midtown it would still have a viable park of many more acres. In the next few years baby boomers, a large midtown demographic, will begin to retire and the golf course and tennis center will enjoy a new heyday.
What they really have planned for War Memorial is shameful. It does not deserve your support.
When it comes to public schools your support for the little guy is unambiguous. It makes to sense to oppose these same interests when it comes to city management.

Though I'd hate to go through it again, it would be interesting to see his reaction. If convicted, I think he'd lock himself in the Lincoln bedroom and would have to be physically carried out of the White House.
If Cheney were convicted, he'd simply veto it on national security grounds and remain in office. Only the big one (heart attack) will get that guy out of there.

Thanks for the link Cato. Our legislative branch is too frightened to roll off the couch and do anything productive. The judiciary has been corrupted. The people haven't a clue about what to do and can't get an act together.
Legislators could have stopped the White House crime family before things deteriorated to this god-awful point.

Since KARN's Ultra-Conservative, War-Hawk Bush Loyalist Dave Elswick does commercials for Cupid's Porno Palace, I heard Dubya and Dick did a quick meet and greet there recently.
Oh yeah, there's a pic hopefully linked at my blue name.

dbi i we had a little dinner group tonight of ft smith people who live in little rock. as we have figured on here i am a couple of years older than you but very close to the same age. we were discussing possible water problems in ft smith. we were comparing our friends in ft smith to ourselves and thinking that they were looking much older. is there something in the water or air that is causing premature aging in the 55-60 age group? they seem older than the little rock group of the same age from the same area.

Zonk, I think it is in your mirror. I haven't noticed a significant change personally but came across an old id card the other day and the young thin guy staring out at me seemed only vaguely familiar. It was a good laugh at the coffee klatch. So Zonk, find a picture about 15 years old and compare to the guy in the mirror...

If only there were a just god. I don't even mind giving the RWing Mafia a chance at redeeming him with a state funeral.

i do happen to remember i wore a smaller size pants than i did but i tend to ignore those things. my hair seems to be a different color but i still think those other people look older than i do and a lot older than my wife. i have been married 35 years and if i hadn't learned to say that i would have been divorced a long time ago.

Well, my 40 yr old mate does look younger than them , and me.
Sounds like fun reminiscing but having worked in and around Ft Smith for 7 years in 90s I didn't think it would be any fun to be a young adult there.
I think Gray Fred Thompson will play well there.
The NWA corner has an interesting mix of grey and young..at fund raisers they mix and mingle. At UA functions there's always a mix of youth and maturity, perhaps that sets the paradim for the entire corner.
But Ft Republican is different. The youngest person I ever did business with there was 40.

Tonight we watched, "Shut Up And Sing", the documentary about the Dixie Chicks and the controversy stirred up when Natalie Manes commented she was ashamed dubya was from Texas. I really enjoyed the film.
I was never all that crazy about them until they got all that attention, but I can see they really are good musicians, besides good Americans.
Sometimes I think, one of these days everyone will see what a mistake the invasion and occupation of Iraq was, and that maybe the bigger crime was how it was sold to America.
No doubt, the cheney administration has brought us the worst crime spree in national history, and will be responsible for the ruination of the republic, if that comes to pass. But they're a slick bunch. They started work on fixing the 2008 election probably in 2000. The fix is already in at the Justice Department and on the Supreme Court.
My hope is that enough people will see through all the phony, cooked up "patriotism" and similar work on "Christianity" and "values" that this bunch has honed, and will really press for a change.
Conservatives seem to shout that they are the majority and that their values are what America wants. I don't believe that. I believe there are just as many people who want the America that I want: where people are valued; where justice and liberty are valued; where fairness is the standard.
The conservative voice of this country has been amplified courtesy of a money machine -- a money machine for which most Americans don't have the PIN.
If the presidential baton is passed to anyone who will carry it in the same direction bushcheney did, we're goners. Or at least I'll be gone. That America doesn't want me, anyway.

You know, I'm probably too close to the subject to be objective. I have noticed that most of my classmates look a lot older than I do. I think having a time clock punching job will age you quicker than a hidden drinking problem. If you have both....whoo boy!
I've noticed the show dog girls of my class whose daddies were very wealthy still look great. I figure most of them have gone the Joan Rivers route, and by god I'm all for it!
A friend of mine came back to town a couple of months ago after being gone for like 18 years and she just kept whispering WOW he looks old or she looks old and when I got to looking, she was right.
I have been having a personal age crisis for about 10 years and I'll be sooo happy when it's over. All I see is decay and death. Of course little things like gluing together my upper plate on the kitchen table this morning tends to make me feel about 199 years old.
Spending 24 hours a day with an old sick Mom at the end of her life makes a person want to tape a pistol under the coffee table towards the day you suddenly take a dive and the party's over. Dr. Kevorkian is my friend, ya know.
I don't plan to spend the last couple of years of my life strapped in my hospital bed screaming SNAKES all day. We put our suffering animals to sleep why not those we love or ourselves when there ain't gonna be another good day?
We don't have fluoride in our water, zonk. Think that's it? A whole lot of people work themselves into an early grave. I think a lot of secret drinkin and druggin goes on in Ft. Baptist and probably every other town. Having an unpleasant wife will age you....that's another reason I look so young. (she was looking over my shoulder.)
So.....obviously I don't have a clue if people in LR are looking better longer. I'm too conveniently located near Sparks Hospital and Edwards Funeral Home to move at this point in my life. The real secret to a good looking old age is probably picking the right parents when you're born.

Took an early walk across the Big Dam Bridge and back today. Couldn't help but notice the copper thieves have begun snipping the grounding cables from the handrails. i'm sure they'll be turned away at the recycler, though. ;}

Are we sure Cheney is still alive? that could be a robot or some imposter or something.
the man has had enough health problems to kill four people at least. I guess money keeps you alive longer.
any healthcare facility worth its salt knows you always check first for a positive wallet sign.

Bicycles:
On the ride in this morning, NPR featured a story about a city purchasing "loaner bikes." Whatever happened to LR's bike program that started a few years back? I suspect that the bicycles mysteriously disappeared, but have no personal recollection of any reports? Does anyone have a clue?

I don't think there was much mystery to it, Sim-One. From what I recall, the bike loans were one-way, mostly one-time transactions.
