The LR crisis 50th: Where's Bushie?

I heard last night that Obama, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton are all confirmed particpants in the Little Rock School Crisis 50th in late September. Still no confirmation from President George W. Bush. The betting line today is that he won't come. The thinking is that he wouldn't want to risk comparison with this group before a crowd that can't be pre-screened to include only the 26-percenters. It will be a big mistake if the president does bypass this event. The signal would be all too clear to voters who believe in the message of 1957 -- the federal government stands for the Constitution and equal rights for all.

Oh, right. Bush doesn't believe in either

Comments

Part of me wants him to stay away so that some meaning can be gleaned from the observation. Another part of me wants him to be here to face certain humiliation since his usual insulation from dissent would be (should be) absent. Something along the lines of his phony presence at Coretta Scott King's memorial service and the reaction he got from those who had a sincere presence.

Bush sucks.

Hugh! Thanks for reminding me of Bush's priceless bad reception there. I had forgotten. Ah. That was a day.

Bush doesn't dare show up.

Can we keep the Supreme Court from coming, too?

I guess we'll see what Cheney decides.

The only time I ever want to see Bush or Cheney on Arkansas soil again, is when either or both of them are being escorted to their cells or the execution unit at Tucker or Cummins.

And I'm a pasty old white guy! If I was a black person, especially someone with a connection to 1957 troubles in LR, I'd lose my mind if I thought the men responsible for the Katrina disaster were coming to make nice nice in my town. I'd being thinking it was time for a little reverse lynching.

So let Arkansas send forth this message.......Don't you dare think of coming to the big party! Scat!

It wouldn't do him any good if he came and it wouldn't hurt him if he stays away.

Personally I think only President
Clinton should attend. Bush is
not worthy of attending in my
opinion. Obama and others
should not be allowed to use
it as a politcal vehicle either.

Wow.

I don't guess I should be surprised, but that last line is one of the stupidest things I've ever read.

A paper published by a think tank last month warned that Sen. Blanche Lincoln's ascendancy to the Agriculture Committee chairmanship was a bad omen for passage of climate-change legislation in 2010 due to her close ties to agricultural producers and processors seen as major contributors of greenhouse gases. /more/
