Then and now
June 27, 2006
Governor Huckabee, who is continuing his economic mission to Asia, has met with Sanyo executives in Osaka, Japan. Sanyo operates a television manufacturing plant at Forrest City.
Huckabee says he met last night with Sanyo's "top tier of management" and says the executives had praise for workers at their Arkansas plant. The Sanyo factory in Forrest City has about 650 workers and is the city's largest private employer.
Huckabee says he was assured that Sanyo would do all it can to ensure the Forrest City plant remains a source of profit for the company.

Sanyo announces it is closing its last assembly line at Forrest City by October. After that, the company may employ about 75 in a warehouse and office operation for distribution of TVs made in Mexico.

Well, it looks like Mike Beebe really has dropped the ball on this one.

In return for the tax breaks you get, don't companies agree to stick around for a bit? Is there ever a comparison between what it cost to bring a company in and what we REALLY get in return?

I believe Sanyo has been there for about 30 years.

Yep, in today's world 30 years is a long time. Our community still has a US Motors plant. Been here 42 years. Still advertising for employees. Other US Motor plants elsewhere have gone south. Ours make HUGE electical units they don't make in other countries. Who knows how long they will be here.

How can Huckabee or Beebe carry blame for a plant closing when people are no longer buying what the plant produces?

NAFTA strikes again! In the coming years we will get to worry about China....Wal-Mart is sending them plenty of bucks to raise a giant army and buy weapons by the butt load.
But some of you haters out there better start being nicer to your Mexican neighbors. If we keep NAFTA, in 20 years Mexico will be richer than the US and then they'll come after us.
Imagine 20 years from now when CNN-Mexico broadcasts news showing the Mexican Army pulling down giant statures of Bush. How are we going to feel when a misguided Mexican missile takes out Breezy's next wedding party?
Who will stop the Mexican Army from taking over Arkansas chicken production? What if they clear cut all our forests in a single year and pay Mexican Halliburton to haul it all back to Mexico?
Mexican soldiers will kick down our doors and rape our women. They'll go nuts after an attack and kill everyone in the little village of Little Flock in NWA.
Those of us unlucky enough to be captured will be stripped naked and live goats will be attached to our testicles. Our Sports Illustrateds will be spit on and flushed down the toilets. Someone will shoot John Boozman and both sides will claim responsibility.
So think twice before you flip off a Mexican....between the rich white plant owners coaxing them over the border and NAFTA shipping all our good jobs south......We may be Mexico's bitch in 20 years.
Then comes the Chinese after that. The golden Age of America is over. Better hope the ground around your trailer is good enough to grow opium poppies, you'll need the income to buy a nice cave someday.

Isn't Don Young one of the few in DC who is a member of the Mike Huckabee fan club?

Don Young Under Federal Criminal Investigation
By Laura McGann - July 24, 2007, 9:09 PM
The Wall Street Journal reports that 18-term Rep. Don Young (R-AK) is under criminal investigation for his dealings with Alaska oil services company Veco Corp.
While the investigation into Sen. Ted Stevens' (R-AK) ties to Veco, including the remodeling of his Girdwood home, has been widely reported, this is the first time Young has been implicated in the scandal.

Yeah....just like that swami preacher and his jumbo jet.....Huckabee is big buddies with Mr. Highway Funds Don Young.
I told you all about a wholesale fund raising and Republican check writing to Don Young by manys in Fort Baptist-Republican a few years back.
I wondered at the time why all of a sudden R's in FS were sending a butt load of checks to some bozo in Alaska. It all smells of ass to me.
