Big grant for AP courses
Arkansas is one of only seven states to win a big grant -- $13 million -- to improve student scores on Advanced Placement English, science and math tests. The money will finance a center for the work based at UALR.

Who decides which twenty districts gets the money? The Central Ark people on the board?

Whut the hell does UALR know about English, science and math?
ARK. BLOG: Yeah, and they don't have a football team at all, much less one with club seating.

With Tommie Sue in charge, we know what one of the 20 districts will be: The PuCoSSD, home to her beloved Mills High.

Spend the money on teaching the teachers. My son came home the other day and told me about his AP course. His teacher told his class that she was not familiar with the subject matter. She told them to read the book and write down what they thought was important. This teacher is not one of the two non-HQT he has. If she doesn't know what she is teaching what do the other two not know?

College Board decided the districts. It was based on several factors. It is specifically AP Stat, AP Bio and AP English Lit. It is a great thing if the money gets appropriated correctly and used not just for PD but for equipment, etc. The idea is to increase minority and rural participation and success in those classes.

OK Love Students/Job but hopefully there will be some follow up on results. Announcements are fine and uplifting and impart that proud to be here moment. But I seriously doubt districts in Madison County, Carrol County, where schools are not well funded will see any of this.
