Kind words for the Clintons
We mentioned the NPR interview last week, but the political blogscape is full of references today to Mike Huckabee's kind words last week about Bill and Hillary Clinton for raising a fine daughter and keeping their marriage together despite well-known troubles, unlike, say, several Republican candidates. The comments seem to have served Huckabee well among people reading about the interview, if not with some fellow GOP candidates.
This will really rankle some of my Republican colleagues: Bill Clinton and Hillary went through some horrible experiences in their marriage because of some of the reckless behavior that he has admitted he had. I am not defending him on that, it's indefensible.
Just let's not let it get lost on us that they kept their marriage together. They raised a magnificent daughter. Chelsea is truly a delightful human being. ... She's polite, thoughtful, intelligent and everything you would hope a daughter to be. But they kept their marriage together.
And a lot of the Republicans who have condemned them and talk about their platform of family values, interestingly, didn't keep their own families together. Give Bill and Hillary Clinton credit for doing something we say they should have done and that is hold their marriage together in spite of enormous trials.

This doesn't bode well for a VP bid with anyone except Romney.

Yip, a shot across the bow of big Rudy. But, you know ES, politicians make strange bedfellows.
Many Republicans have poor "attachment values" save for money-greed. They never give that up.

Ol Huckabee can sound or appear honest, fair, and reasonable when he has time to construct and craft his responses. Obviously Huck has pretty limited press time at this point and can appear genuine. The test (that he will fail) is when he gets rapidfire hardball questionimng. I predict he will wither just as Ross Perot did.
Any salesman can anticipate objestions and prepare responses before he has any track record to be grilled on.

My, my, Mike Huckabee is sounding presidential, gracious, even Christian. So unlike Governor Huckabee. What happened to Mean Mike?

Polecat,
Give it time. The true Huck will ooze out in little bits then when pressed, he will explode.
Back in the Tucker incident I was glad a grownup with Arkansas' best interests at heart was wading in to the breach and leading the ship of state. Shortly there after I was embarassed by Huck's petty, spiteful, grubby, and grabby true character became evident.

Clinton Vows More Trips In Effort To Win Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE - Leading Democratic presidential contender Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., vowed this afternoon to make more trips to Northwest Arkansas in the 2008 campaign.
Clinton spoke to a crowd of at least 200 at Gloria Jean's Coffee on Dickson Street during a fundraising tour of Fayetteville and Little Rock.
The senator and former Arkansas first lady said she'd put Arkansas "in the winning column" in the next presidential election.
The state Republican Party issued a statement calling the senator's trip an attempt to "convince voters in this state that she's not a liberal senator from New York."

Polecat, you should probably look through some Brummett achives, or maybe even those of AT. Huck has this consternating ability to say something so good, so profound, so other-worldly as to merit almost undying allegience. (See particularly the Jim-Guy-pump-fake speech or his comments at Central High where he probably was more presidential than the Presidents.) He then manages to commit some sort of loyalty-suicide by slaying the very allegiance he created with his peevishness and pettiness.

This was a compliment delivered with an anthrax coating. Our state is big on FK'ing around. I hardly know a couple where one of them didn't pull down a zipper at the wrong place and the wrong time, with the wrong person. Huckabee implies that Clinton snuffed his dates thru the years. Or hung them naked over Hillary's bed complete with ball gag. Or forced Hill play pass the banana topless with em or something.
"Well known troubles", "horrible experiences", "reckless behavior", "it's indefensible", "in spite of enormous trials".......Jesus....Bill Clinton sounds more like Jeffrey Dahmer, that ole homosexual murdering cannibal than a guy who cheated on his wife. Oh please may Huckster never try to say something nice about me!
So in saying something nice....supposedly.....he trashes all the Republican candidates who've been married more than once and he make Hillary sound like some poor Iraqi woman whose been raped, tortured and had her arms cut off.....but by god he loves him some of that Chelsea! That's a fine fine girl to come out of a Yankee Mama and a slut Daddy.
Could it be he's softening up the future attacks on his kids? The ones he's been a-hiding as hard as he can go? The old I'll talk about your daughter's lovely red hair in hopes you won't mention my son's hair-lip? It might work.....might be a good idea to nip that in the bud. '
Or maybe he reduced to saying something nice about famous people just to get a little air time, get his name out there one more time before he slips under the surf. If the media's dumb enough to stick a microphone in his face, Huck's smart enough to feed um some words 'o praise. If'n he worked it just right he might be able to steal that Giuliani kid whose rootin for Obama....wouldn't that frost old Rudy!
Since Huck is being all warm and fuzzy I will be too. Mike Huckabee's got hair that Ike would die for, his eyes aren't near as buggy as a Lajjaboti Banor monkey or that old sow Barbara Bush and he is doing very well despite the horrific strain put upon him by the reckless behavior of that boy of his. And guess who has a birthday coming up on the 24th of this month! Number 52 for that ole ring-tailed tooter Mike Huckabee. Happy Birthday Mike!

Maybe we should lift up the Clintons as a fine example of how to restore (the appearance of) a marriage wracked by deception and repetitive infidelity. Although a post-Whitehouse divorce would probably have derailed their first love (their political careers), being able to financially thrive and enjoy the public spotlight without having to (shudder) spend time alone together seems to work for them. To each his own . . .

Ah! DonKey,
Family Values versus Clinton venom and you follow the predictable course.
Why don't you explain how three time divorcee Giuliani, who had an affair with his current wife in Gracie Mansion after kicking the previous one out, is more righteous and more supportive of family values. You can include how good a father he is that his own children refuse to campaign for him.
Hillary is not my cup of tea, but thanks to you, Karl and the rest of the Bushevik fringe's inability to resist a chance to slander a Clinton at any turn with litle or no justification, I may have to change my mind.
So thanks Don Keyhotay for reminding us how truly petty, base and unforgiving a CCRRR can be.

Doc:
The topic was kind words for the Clintons' ability to keep their marriage together and I thought my comments were pretty tame and totally lacking in stimulating venom.
Slander? Don't really see any of that there - which statement was false- The deception? The infidelity? Financially thriving? Enjoying the spotlight? Must have been the observation about first love being politics, hardly slanderous.
I like your polite, uplifting, irrelevant Giuliani comments - maybe you can remind me where I have ever made ANY comment excusing the Giuliani version of "family values" . . . or even supporting him, for that matter.
Remember, the topic was giving credit for the Clintons keeping their, ahem, "marriage" together. It was your choice to trash the other politician.
So thanks, Doc, for reminding us how truly petty and predictable Clinton apologists can be.
