Oh, never mind
It may not get the same headline size it got when the Democrat-Gazette initially rolled this story out Aug. 11, but that $40,000 tax lien against the Little Rock Classroom Teachers Association, otherwise known as the evil teachers union? Turns out the CTA owed the state $21.28. It was paid yesterday. The original amount apparently really was born out of confusion over use of workers from a temp agency.

Comments
The financial wizard in charge at LRCTA needs a job evaluation real soon. It has been my experience that DFA doesn't file a lien until you have received ample notices of the deficiency and a warning that they are going to file a lien if you don't pay up or respond!
The August 10 letter from Grainger Ledbetter posted earlier, described this lien as "a complete surprise", followed by "We are beginning to analyze. . ." and "if we failed to pay . . . it was completely unintentional."
A complete surprise? A Surprise that DFA filed the lien? What did you think would happen if you ignored the earlier notices? Or a Surprise that the tax was being assessed? Who sorts the mail around there anyway? Did someone sit on the notices, keeping you in the dark?
And, if you are just now beginning to analyze the financial records, you are a little late - why wasn't this done when you received the earlier notices? Or are the tax notices sitting in someone's "inbox" awaiting discovery?
A little timely action would have saved all of this hubbub over $21.28.
Y'all keepin' on top of everything else over there like bills and stuff or is this just business as usual?

So, why don't you call 'em up, DK? It's much better than just speculating. The number is 501-372-3519. If you won't, maybe Max will. Who knows, maybe even the Dem Gaz will ask the question for you. If you beat them all to the punch, let us know what the facts are in the matter. That would be business as usual in the journalism field.
Before you slather on the BBQ sauce it might help to check and see if the cow is dead.

Jake:
Speculating takes a whole lot less time than rollin' up the old sleeves and goin' to work. Since I don't have an active dog in this hunt, I'd rather take the lazy/easy way out on this one and just point out the obvious red flags in this asinine letter/press release.
If teachers are paying dues to this group, maybe they should get stirred up a little bit and spend a little time and energy checking to see what else is happening to the dues they entrust to these folks.
Good advice about the sauce, but I can't see blaspheming a majestic, well-marbled, hot pink Ribeye with a concoction suitable only for coating pigmeat.

Now that Donkey has created his own tempest in a teapot will that "corrections" box at ADG still remain smaller than a microbe?

DK, am in agreement with you about the proper use of BBQ sauce. I think the adjective "asinine" is a bit over the top. Mighty dull axe you've got even after all the grinding you've been doing. Lwood has caught a whiff of the burnt beef on your grill and even he notices that the lighter fluid aroma is rather distinctive.
Despite your obvious culinary taste, I suggest you take the CTA sacred cow off your grill. It's a tad bit too lean, even for you, to overcook it this way. I'd recommend some of those juicy Democrat Gazette editorials. They're often fat, slick, well-marbled, and dripping with greasy comments. They definitely make the flames sizzle and pop.
Avoid Gitz and Masterson columns. That buzzard and turkey meat ain't fit for human consumption when placed on the grill.

The LRCTA is the same group of bozo's that endorced Mike Daughtery for school board zone 2. Daughtery is the guy who says he has all of these educational credentials but will not produce evidence to back it up. He was facing a pergery charge several years ago regarding statements he made regarding his educational credentials and since that time he has been mum on producing evidence that he actually has the degrees he says he has. Isn't it a shame the LRCTA backs a guy that apparently lies about his education? By the way he was suing the LRPD when he gave a deposition regarding his education. They other side checked his story out and he was lying. Pergry charges were filed and Daughtery apparetly felt it was in his best interest to drop the lawsuit against the LRPD. Case closed. The Pergury charges were dropped.

FYI, LRman:
The word is spelled "perjury." Thought you might like to know. You need to take your message to George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and a host of other "bozos" who ride the national bus at the expense of the American taxpayer. I'm sure not all Republicans were satisfied that GWB was their man in 2004, but they took him despite his flaws because he supported many of their pet projects and causes.
Same holds true for LRCTA and Daugherty. They see him as the best agent for their concerns. Swaim might've done better with them if it were not for the current political situation sitting on everyone's shoulder like a 500-lb gorilla. Daugherty may not be my pick or yours but that doesn't give either of us the right to be boorish and call the LRCTA "bozos" for their choice. If we're going to serve as an example let's make sure it is a good one.

FYI, Jake
Thanks for the Spelling correction! Bozos, I'll call the LRTCA that again (Bozos) for endorcing a candidate that lies about his educational credentials and is a puppet for the status quo.

Endorsing, not endorcing.
I don't know why, but when I peruse your words of wisdom, I am reminded of my friend's famous last words:
"Off the table, Mabel! The quarters for the beer!"

BTW
The puppet for the status quo bit just doesn't make sense considering that the status quo standard was set by the prior board majorities, Hussman and the educantists with their merit pay experiment, white flight which continues to be ignored as one of the main reasons for LRSD problems, troubling problems in the African-American culture that manifest themselves in the young, and the view that a predominantly black school district was being run by a predominantly white school board (not that the change in color has made it any better either).
No, it is not clear what you mean by "puppet" and "status quo."
