Radio Free America
It's widely expected that Rupert Murdoch will end subscription-only web access to the Wall Street Journal. Says here that the NY Times is about to give up on its program to require payment for access to "select" Times features. (Maureen Dowd, eh. Paul Krugman and Frank Rich and Joe Nocera? Another matter, but web guerillas have provided workarounds for much of their work.) Will the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette stick with its subscription model? (Not counting the fact that there is free web access to a speedier loading, easier-to-navigate website geared to NWA at www.nwanews.com)
How much would you pay if Ark. Blog went subscription only? Wait. Don't answer that question.

Comments
Every good American would be canceling their subscription to the Wall Street Journal. The only way to stop Murdock is shut off his supply of money. Of course we can't bankrupt him in a thousand years, but if subscriptions drop to nothing the Wall Street Journal will be a hot sticky dog turd in his front pocket.
There are dozens of free ways to keep up with the financial world online. No one has to have that ton of paper delivered to their home or office. Cut Murdock's water off now and then pat your kids and smile for being a good American. NOT spending money for a good cause is the easiest thing a person can do. Don't be spending your money fueling this rightwing monster.

Within the past two weeks, the Texarkana Gazette has gone fron free read to subscription on it's web site. Daily headlines and the first couple of paragraphs of each story is still free but the complete story requires a $4.95 subscription.

The same as I pay for the hard copy. This is the only place where news is discussed and reported. Slanted yes, and the slant admitted. Yes I would pay to read your up-to-date posts and the insightful blogging of DBI, zonker, Jake snake , Z, cato, Rev Royo and others too numerous to mention. There's always Theo and chasv to help make me feel grateful to the gods that be.

Some of the policies toward online access seem counterintuitive.
Take the DemGaz (please). You can log on for free and see today's "news". However, if you want to look up something from an issue printed 2 weeks ago, (which was lying on the couch until yesterday) you have to pay to view the article. Doesn't seem to yield much benefit to those who subscribe.
It would seem to me that subscribers would either have the choice of stacking up all those daily newspapers on the floor, or else access them at any time by logging on.
I guess they thing their articles are all worth $$$. You can get most of them on-line from other sources.

i agree lwood. the news here is not slanted, it is just news. the opinions are opinions and they are liberal and some are moderate. the blog opinions are all over from flaming liberal to huck lovers, which is what makes it fun. it is not that much fun to have all who agree all the time. without those who are wrong some of the time prouster, chasv, citizen home, red it would be boring. hey we need recreation in a chair instead of a couch and the problems of the world get solved in one day sometimes if they would just listen to us,.

Zonk,
You grouped me with prouster, chasv, and red above. Did you mean Citizen's Journal? I will freely admit I am wrong more than I am correct, or that is what everyone I live or work with thinks but I didn't expect to be grouped in that lustrious (opposite of illustrious) group.
Dang, I was having to stay in town this weekend due to the LR Central High class of '77 reunion and had planned on going to the "ENOUGH" rally but if I am coming across with oppinions similar to Chasv I may be more at threat from AT bloggers than LR cops looking for permits.
Would it be dishonest to go to the rally and just go as myself and not tell that I am Citizen home?

Is that like going to a women's rights march not because you're a woman but because you think they're right?
