Worst. Congress. Ever.

Here's another "little-noticed" provision of the Patriot Act. It takes from judges and gives to the attorney general -- Al "The Torturer" Gonzales -- the power to fast-track death penalty cases. And you can imagine how much concern HE has for the niceties of evidence, reasonable doubt, execution of the innocent, etc. Yes, new rules will give this lying excuse for attorney general the power over how STATE death row cases are handled. The Texas experience -- cue presidential laughter at news of another condemned prisoner heading to the chair -- tells you all you need to know.

I don't even have to research it, I just know that our own 2 PoS excuses for senators voted FOR this abomination.

Gawd, I'd rather have one of the Hutchinson's than either of these 2 dung heaps.

Congress, please stop this runaway train. Start with impeaching this son-of-a-bitch then move up the line.

Oops ... 70%er is right. Congress rubber-stamped this and so many other provisions that reassign powers.

We are so screwed.

It must be something to do with the job of Attorney General. J. Reno didn't if even let those in Waco have their day in court before she fried them. Was she impeached for the death of those women and children?

Maybe with the time being saved by missing Arkansas History, we can get every pu blic school kid to read Kevin Phillips "Arrogant Capital" ...released in the early 90s...and in a 15-20 years or so we might have an electorate smart enough to see there is not much difference between either party. All the generations up to now have been fully complacent and compliant in delivering us the system of governance by moneyed interests that works so well for the few who know how to run it. It will take a huge change in citizen expectations to change it.

They don't use the "chair" in Texas. It's lethal injection, same as here.

This makes me sick just to read it.

Pathetic!

I had sex with my 2 daughters starting on the day they were born. I killed a priest with my bare hands. I killed those 3 little kids in West Memphis after I raped and tortured them. I sent email and blueprints to everyone of the 9-11 hijackers. I put a pillow over the face of Sid McMath and held it there until he quit wiggling. My mother is my mother and my sister and the mother of all my children. I broke up Breezy's marriage. I am the real father of Elian Gonzalez. I tossed the first firebomb into the Branch Davidian compound after I made a little girl lick my toes and call me Jesus. Then I tossed her in the fire.

I would confess all those things and a million worse after about 3 minutes of waterboarding. I'm a big pussy. I'd break just staring at me hard. So thanks to the Patriot Act and our dumbass Congress and our dumbass Senators, my ass is grass if Gonzales and his goons ever decide to come after me. They have it all wrapped up in a neat package. They list the names, they make the arrests, they run the torture, they run the court, the trial and the execution. In other words the Salem Witch Trials are back and Cheney's got em!

We could only do better by tossing out ever incumbent running for either house of Congress next year. Arkansas's delegation to Congress leads the pack in stupidity, arrogance, and incompetence. But ours are not alone. Many states across the land are guilty of sending stooges too. Hell, I'd throw out Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd to get a brand new bunch that might actually save our country from further disaster at Cheney's hands.

America is racing towards a totalitarian state. Fascist state. And any other state there is where the citizens have no rights and the government murders at will. Congress has clearly been looking the other way since Newt took over 20 years ago. We've got the 3 Stooges x 50 states attempting to do battle with a pack of feral dogs the likes of Hitler, no wonder Cheney's winning!

The only 2 arrows we have left in our quiver are voting....and we know that's a real real iffy deal and protesting. There are more albino children born each day in the US than there are protesters today, and back when your vote counted only half the population bothered to vote. So boys, we're in a tight spot. Unless the population of this country wakes up there is no saving the United States of America. Congress isn't going to do it, Jesus isn't going to do it. Throw all the bums out next year and start sharpening your farm implements if you give any kind of damn about your future.

From the department of Eurekas fuzzy memory, I do recall hearing Gonzo in a hearing this year saying he did recall recollecting reviewing death penalties as USAG for about five minutes per death. Makes my stomach churn just thinking about this horrible man.. Maybe his next job will place him in charge of an animal shelter so we the people can actually nail him on cruel and unusual treatment..

But Mark Pryor voted for this man to be in charge of our Justice System and he either failed to spend five minutes reading Gonzos resume or he really wanted this cretin to be in this position.. I don't know if either scenario makes me feel any better about Pryor and considering Marks record as a whole, I am not about to try and do anything but beg and demand Arkansas Democratic Party (or Green) bring forth a candidate who has read and actually kinda sorta likes the intention/spirit of our beloved constitution.

The terrorists (neo cons, DLC, Blue Dogs, etc) are in both parties in DC, not Irakis who always managed to keep Al Q out of Irak on their own and who are just trying to get US to leave them alone... and terrorists dont discriminate when spreading fear and destruction. They will turn on their own people.. in our case they have begun this process both economically and through dismissal of civil liberties and approving death penalties in five minutes or less.. And we elect them to do it with the fruits of our labor and our tax dollars.. I don't know if we the people will wake up in time or if it is already to late.

Quick question. Are there any Pryor or Lincoln supporters/defenders left on the AT blog? Best I can remember only zonker says he'll be forced to vote for Pryor next time because he can't ever ever vote for a Republican. That is many many miles away from a statement of support.

ARK. BLOG: It's all about the opposition. And it's still all about who controls the Senate when it comes to critical judicial appointments. I"ve yet to meet an Arkansas Republican I'd feel comfortable approving for Senate over either Lincoln or Pryor, as much as I've disagreed with a number of their decisions through the years. And I just can't throw a vote away on a Green candidate if the risk of Republican control of the judiciary hangs in the balance. It's easy to bitch about our senators. And often justified. But would you rather have them than Tim Hutchinson or Mike Huckabee? Easy answer.

Critical Judgements! Hum! Faubus was a Democrat! Fulbright was a Democrat, (see Southern Manifesto)! Jim Guy, Bill McCuen, Nick Wilson, Steve Clark, Lloyd George, all good Democrats (clink, clink went the jail house doors)!

I agree with Max's point re judiciary but that point is exactly why Mark even more than Blanche is a danger to our democracy. It is why, imo, when we elect anti choice Democrats it leads to the worst kind of approval in judiciary appointment.. Clearly this is true in Senator Pryors case. And when Mark approves of the Patriot Act and Gonzo/Alito type nominations (of which there are many other dangerous confimations Mark has supported) we end up in precisely the same judicial place we would with a Huckabee or Hutchison.. If the Democratic party of AR is so willing to capitulate (at best) if not actually promote federalist and fascist ends. then I say we have to do something startling like saying no, (which a vote tossed to the opposition party doubles the no) to wake them up. It all leaves a bad taste but it tastes most foul knowing I actually voted for Mark and a very dissapointing AR D party.

What other recourse do we have when no one (Pryor or the D party) seems to listen or even explain themselves in any coherent way.

What happened here as best I can tell is powers normally left to the bench have been transferred away from the judiciary to the AG.

Senator Leahy asks the President for a sit down re USAG firings.. link at my name.. may I say that link is worth bookmarking.. the fellow does great work most every day.

Rebekah Kennedy for U.S. Senate.

Now that Eureka Spgs has outed Pryor as a 100% Bushvote on key, significant matters did you not throw away your vote on him Max?

We elected two Demo Senators and what did we get? Yea I voted for both of them, made small contributions too, did a little 'activism' but never again. I threw away my money, time and vote.

.

I predict (barring one or more of 'em getting shot or going down on a plane) that each member of Arkansas's congressional delegation will occupy his or her office until he or she becomes tired or bored with the Washington scene.

I'm quite confident in saying this, because sadly enough, the lazy Arkansas electorate simply doesn't give a damn. Nobody knows this better than the current Gang of Six.

The first one of these jokers to step aside will be Mike Ross when he runs for governor in 2014. You can take that one to the bank, brutha, and remember . . . ya read it heah first.

Eureka makes my point. The only difference between a Senator Huckabee or Hutchinson and Senators Lincoln and Pryor would be the R behind their names. I can't accuse Lincoln of being a Republican in Democratic clothing, she's just busy serving her special interests. She's forgot there's a war on and bandits in the White House. Her silence on the war in Iraq is deafening. Her silence while Cheney-Rove-Bush steal our country is inexcusable. She votes a third more Democratic than Pryor yes, and in normal times that might be enough. But these aren't normal times and while the world burns down and our government is stolen, the help Lincoln has given wouldn't fill a thimble.

Mark Pryor IS Mike Huckabee and any Hutchinson. The absolute ONLY reason to support him over H & H is pure party loyalty. And so sorry to say, I believe that is what Max is standing on.

"Hey....I know he's lousy, he talks like a Republican, he votes like a Republican. I don't know if he's stupid or on the Kool-aid, but he's friendly at cocktail parties, I have always liked his Dad and I can forget he's for torturing people as long as Pryor's D counts for our side."

If this was 1977 I could live with that. It's not good ole safe 1977 and those aren't good ole boy politicians in the White House....they're treasonous criminals bent on world domination. I'm personally less upset about the war killing people I don't know and spending money I haven't got the bill for yet as I am about the destruction of our time honored government. Our unique form of government has been the only glue that's held this country together for 231 years. Our founders failed to consider there would ever be a time when there was no difference between the 2 political parties. Our founders never counted on someone like Rove politicizing every branch of government nor every job within our government.

The founders intended 3 equal branches of government. Not one all powerful branch and 2 tiny flipper branches. They never imagined an act that would allow the Attorney General to turn himself into a Grand Jury of 1, a posse of 1, a kidnapper, a torturer, the prosecutor, the Judge, the jury and the executioner.......all in one office. And behind each vote that put them in their position, behind each vote that allowed them to spy on American citizens, behind each vote to remove our freedoms, behind each vote to go to war, behind each vote to kidnap and torture in secret black site prisons stood Senator Mark Pryor, Democrat of Arkansas.

Bring back Nick Wilson, bring back Tommy Robinson, bring back Bill McCuen, bring back Paul Van Dalsem.....I'll gladly take a crooked Democrat over Mark Pryor. Stealing money is bad but it won't kill us or our way of governing. Mark Pryor's neo-con in Democratic clothing will.

'It's the GUN & BIBLE stupid...

"President Bush has always been a death penalty enthusiast. The 152 prisoners he dispatched to their deaths in his eight years as governor of Texas set a high-water mark unmatched before or since.

According to official memos, Governor Bush would give the green light to executions based on no more than a half-hour briefing from Mr Gonzales. Mr Gonzales, in turn, often omitted mitigating evidence."-- By Andrew Gumbel in Los Angeles

U.S. to Expand
Domestic Use
Of Spy Satellites
By ROBERT BLOCK
August 15, 2007; Page A1

The U.S.'s top intelligence official has greatly expanded the range of federal and local authorities who can get access to information from the nation's vast network of spy satellites in the U.S.

The decision, made three months ago by Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell, places for the first time some of the U.S.'s most powerful intelligence-gathering tools at the disposal of domestic security officials. The move was authorized in a May 25 memo sent to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff asking his department to facilitate access to the spy network on behalf of civilian agencies and law enforcement.

Until now, only a handful of federal civilian agencies, such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey, have had access to the most basic spy-satellite imagery, and only for the purpose of scientific and environmental study.
