Black and white: the record on Mike Huckabee
A good story from Stephens Media's Washington bureau examining Mike Huckabee's exaggerated claim for black voter support during his gubernatorial tenure. He did better than many Republicans and a 20 percente vote, if he achieved it, is valuable versus the customary nil. He had diversity in appointments, if not as great as he claimed, particularly in some of the top spots. Naturally, beneficiaries of his largesse defend him. But 48 percent of the vote? No way.

Comments
While experts acknowledge Huckabee reached out to minorities like few other Republicans during his decade as the state's governor,<<<
Maybe I'm not getting it but Huckabee was the first Republican governor since Winthrop Rockefellow
in the 60s. Is the comparison to other R candidates in Ark? If not then there's been only one other Repub governor to which to compare him and that was more than 30 years before he took office.

Like everything else, Huckabee stretches the truth. He should get his facts straight before he set out to make brownie points, (pun intended) for the black vote.

Am I imagining things, or didn't Mr. Huckabee early on say something like "If you are going to vote 90% against me then you shouldn't be surprised at my response to your concerns...." Then, clarify it with a declaration he was governor of all the people. Early in first elected term? Ring a bell anyone?

I honestly can't say I recall it but sounds like something the young Huckleberry would say. Would be priceless in case he gets the second spot. Of course I can't see more than 10% of any minority voting for him anywaz.

Huckabee is starting to slip. In response to a question about the genocide in Darfur, he said that genocide was a terrible thing, but he's more concerned about the millions of aborted fetuses right here in the USA. In other words, the poor folks in Darfur can't vote for him, so he doesn't care about them. He cares more about currying votes from right-wing nuts.
