Crime, crime and more crime
It's been a rough 24 hours in parts of Little Rock -- first a rush-hour shootout on Asher Avenue just south of UALR that left one person dead, another injured and passing drivers ducking behind their dashboards, and then a woman found shot in the head on MLK Boulevard this morning. That's 35 homicide victims for the year. Police this morning released the name of the man killed on Asher: Tyrone Penn, 20, of Little Rock. The injured man, a bystander, is expected to survive. Police also released the names of two suspects: James Cribbs (below left) and Cameron Bryant.

And in less lethal but still unsettling news, recognize this masked man?
And in less lethal but still unsettling news, recognize this masked man?
He's the suspect in two recent home invasion robberies in Hillcrest and Kingwood, shown here at an ATM wearing a mask he stole from one of the homes. In both incidents the robber cut off the power to the houses late at night, then busted in when the residents opened their doors to investigate. At one house, he even forced his victim to carry a large-screen TV to his waiting vehicle. Nervy.
Police are now telling people not to go outside if their power goes out -- instead, look out a window to see if neighbors' power is out as well, and if it's not, call the police.

The Little Rock crime problem is out of control.
Why is it so much worse down there?

James Cribbs. I think if you put a wig on that boy he could easily evade police for a little while as a girl.

Is there any more information on the home invasion robberies? When? Where (specifically)?
Yikes.

I think Cribbs' name was mentioned in some other recent crime. I would like to see more law-abiding citizens strapped, ready to protect themselves. We have given too much power and control to criminals and psychopaths---it's time to stop making excuses, it is time to fight back.

Cribbs was out on bond for the earlier shooting at Juanita's that killed Crystal Heard, an innocent bystander. I found this information on KATV's website.
Do society a favor and remove this scum from the planet.

This email is circulating amongst Hillcrest residents:
****
Email to the Hillcrest Residents Association from LRPD
Good afternoon
Would you send out an email to everyone in your group informing them of a robbery in your
area? Last night a robbery took place on Edgestone, which is north of you, about 11:45 pm
involving a light skin black male. This is the second of two incidents like this we have had.
The first took place on Ridge Road which is off of Keathley which is off of north Mississippi.
In these robberies the robber is turning off the power to the residence. When the home owner
goes outside to check the power box, they were robbed by this light skinned black male. No
one has been injured, but we are concerned that this suspect may be planning other
robberies. Here is what we are asking people to do. Keep your doors locked at all times. If
you are home and your power goes off, look outside and see if the power is off in the
neighborhood. If it is not, call 911 and tell the call taker that someone has turned off your
power and they may be waiting outside. We have notified dispatch that if a call like this
comes in they are to dispatch several officers immediately to the area. Robbery detectives are
working on the case. If anyone has any info on these robberies they should call our robbery
detectives at 371-4660. Thanks for your help. We will catch this guy soon.
Lt. Terry Hastings

Poster's comment: what's up with the AR Dem-Gaz making no mention of this in the Friday paper? Lt. Hastings mentions "Edgestone." That is incorrect. The robbery was on Edgerstoune, which is off the far north end of Martin Street by Knoop Park. You can see the houses from Cantrell above the Riverdale Sonic restaurant. The robber went to one house and turned off the power first, but didn't go ahead with the robbery. Then he went a couple of doors down and followed through. Scary.

I know that one prominent AT Blogger will be very interested in the Edgerstoune angle.

Until LR gets serious and adopts a residency requirement for police officers expect more of this in the future. C'mon law and order mayor...it is time to make the tough decisions and changes in policy.

At my name is the link to the KTHV story on the robberies.
One other street name correction in the email JoeCollege shared with us ... they're talking about Keightly (not Keathley), the street that picks up where Mississippi ends.
And I agree with Mystery Shopper about the residency requirement.

Not to minimize Little Rock's problems, but look at Philadelphia where a couple of weeks ago the police chief admitted his department alone can't stop a recent run of deadly crime. So, he called for 10,000 men to patrol the streets. The chief, who is black, specifically called for 10,000 black men to help protect the city's more vulnerable residents. He urged volunteers to sign up for three hours a day for at least 90 days. Philly has recorded 294 homicides this year.

"In both incidents the robber cut off the power to the houses late at night, then busted in when the residents opened their doors to investigate."
Other deceptions being used around the country include audio recordings. A small child crying is one favorite deception and who wouldn't open their door to check. A kitty meowing is another.

What do you expect?? Folks see the idiotmorons in Washington D.C., who are suppose
to live by the laws of our land, with blood dripping from their hands, and think they
should be intitled to a little blood letting too.

Unless there has been some kind of prearranged agreement, I do not open my door for anyone after dark; and if I am here during the day, I address the person from behind a closed door, with one of my equalizers near me. Little Rock should initiate a program similar to the one to which durangokid alluded---I will participate if I am allowed to bring one of my friends.

Is James Cribbs the same guy who shot himself by accident in August of 2006 at the Conway skating rink? Read about it in the NWAnews.com. There is no excuse for this guy to be out on bond.

I would bet it is the same 'thug-lite' creating problems in the city and in other areas. Since I do not profess to be a liberal, I am hoping he presents an opportunity for the police to take him out. You can not rehab those who oppose personal responsibility and accountability.

You may be shocked to discover that there are residents of Hillcrest that do not belong to the Hillcrest Residents Association.pay to belong to a private neighborhood association.
It is worrisome that even when such a bulletin is released, and although there is surely a written police report which we pray is accurate, the bulletin is full of inaccuracies.

It is offensive that LRPD-issued crime bulletins are not readily available to tax-paying property owners and residents unless they pay to belong to a private neighborhood association.
