Gen. Betrayus
Kos has an excellent analysis of the impact of the Moveon.org ad that the Republicans seized in desperation to cover their failed war policy. The ad didn't help the GOP with public opinion, which was lower still about Bush after the ad ran. And the Beltway media, still programmed by the GOP spinners, got it all wrong. The public gets it.

Comments
"Excellent analysis" and "Kos" in the same sentence.
Isn't that like "Houston Nutt" and "successful passing game"?

Welcome to Circle-jerk, Inc. The moron Bush Lite provides "new [old] marching orders" to the military, then parries all questioning of the illegal, immoral war with "we'll wait for the
Petraeus Report." (THINK he's also used the term Petraeus Plan - HE makes the plans, not the military!) Hello, the Petraeus Report/Plan is...[fanfare].the marching orders received from the Dipshit-in-Chief!! At least in a REAL C-j, someone gets an orgasm. What we have here is a coward, supposedly "in charge," hiding behind an honorable military professional who has (admittedly with some complicity) been set up...but WAIT - maybe not - he's also the guy who blew the training mission for the reconstituted Iraqi Army!!
From William M. Arkin in the WashPost in JANUARY - a lot has changed, eh?
("We all know what really happened, the "national" army wasn't national at all; the combat forces weren't quite what the numbers suggested; insurgents had infiltrated almost all formations; the Ministry of Interior was riddled with Shi'a militia members and spies; the Iraqis weren't battling the insurgency, they were the insurgency.
Am I missing something here? Petraeus is credited with single-minded pursuit of his mission and the intellectual brainpower to "get the job done," as if the guys commanding the effort to this point have been a bunch of idiots. An army of successful acronyms, however, does not confirm anything, and Iraq is as it was during Petraeus' two earlier tours, a disorganized and hopeless mess.")
What we, and especially the Republibaptist a$$holes in power, need is a good, old-fashioned military coup to rid the White House of cowards, traitors and corporate shills (that would be EVERYONE THERE)!! AND anyone who thinks the fundamentals of governing would be improved by a "veto-proof" Congressional wingding, OR electing John Barackary is really smoking the good stuff!! They ALL suck from the same teats...that's S-U-C-K!
Our "democracy," the "greatest nation on earth," needs a complete rework - like NFL stadiums get... The only hope could be a Kucinich/Paul, or Paul/Kucinich ticket! Or better - a Stewart/Maher ticket ...

I still can't understand how Hillary is to blame for the MoveOn ad...see Richard Cohen's column in today's Washington Post!

Betrayal in Neo Con America is the new black.. There is so much going around most of us don't even notice it anymore...many don't even know how to define it.
General Petraeus, unlike many soldiers, is in a position to accept or deny orders from the neo nuts in civilian control, Bush/Cheney. He made a choice to spend 17 days in the month of August '07 alone, pushing forward White House approved lies to visiting members of Congress in Iraq and then bring forth at best very misleading hints of success in front of congress for Bush/Cheney last week. There is a difference between wanting his failed mission to have more time (up to ten more years) and being honest about the facts on the ground with the civilian leadership/congress who are supposed to decide.. People may have wanted to trust Petaeus..but congress, like it or not, are the decider's in this country.
He betrays his constitution, his soldiers, and his country.. His own soldiers under his command coined the term Betrayus because he lied to them..and many at home borrowed the phrase because he is lying to us as well.
As for the ad, one need only set it aside and listen to the Presidents speech last week which was broadcast on most networks. His lies and condescending tone directed at the troops was beyond egregious in its arrogance.. He took a daddy tone and told the troops they cant come home until they finish the Oil Daddy Bush job.. When we all know their job was complete (the invasion, mission accomplished) years ago. Troops don't shoot their way through political benchmarks of the nature needed now.. Using them and holding them hostage only exacerbates the miserable situation in every way.
We need to stop doing exactly what the Osama types of the world want us to do! Screw the oil control..its cheaper to just buy it once.. I don't want my fellow citizen/soldiers held hostage, forced to kill needlessly, by a vp and president, war criminals, gone wild on some bizarre PNAC robber baron plan.
Impeach these people before they/we bomb Iran and let Isreali neo nuts bomb Syria.... It's precisely what they want to do.

So there are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. So we're really killing people for oil. What I want to know is how can we not find the oil. There is a whole bunch of oil under those desert sands, right? Why aren't we bringing it home? Halliburton helped pump most every drop out of Texas, so I know they know how to do it. We should be shipping oil here in coffins instead of filling those flag-draped but unphotographed coffins with dead kids or their remaining parts. Gasoline should be almost free by now, since it's been so many years since Mission Accomplished. That's OIL we accomplished, right? Operation Iraqi Liberation. Where's my cheap gasoline?
Another question. Why didn't we see any footage of wild celebration on VI Day in 2003 like it was in Paris in 1945? I bet there was a bunch of champagne drinking, dancing in the streets, and GIs getting kissed by beautiful young women on the streets of Bahgdad.
By the way, isn't Bushco/Halliburton dishonoring those ex-troops by keeping their coffins hidden? I read in Doonesbury that my kids would be dishonoring their own future deaths in the war if they don't support it now. Trudeau also made me laugh until I cried when he had the troopie in Iraq buying a Halliburger with cheese for $40. I mean, it's funny, but the truth behind the humor really makes me cry.

Aw, c'mon Red I was expecting something from you about Clinton's military service which is right on par with Darth Cheney's military service.

The responsibility for the funding of this war rests with the Democratically controlled congress. Any time the democrats want to end this war, all they've got to do is eliminate the funding. Democrats voted to go to war, and the Democrats in power continue to vote to fund the war. I can't remember, how did our Democratic congressmen and congresswomen vote on funding for the war? I'm surprised the war is even on still. The Democrats promised to end this war when they took over congress, yet they continue to appropriate funds to pay for this war. Hillary Clinton, our next President, voted for the war, and she even said that the surge is working. How can this be?

NPR reported today that a British firm that does polling in Iraq has determined by surveying 1,500 households there that 1.2 MILLION Iraquis have been killed since Bush's war there began.

Yes folks...I'm back...went up to DC to attend the 9/15 peace protests...I think they were a HUGE success despite the bullshit YOU saw on the mainstream media. Click my name for a pictorial essay of my trip hitchhiking up there for peace sake.
"An arkansas traveller, a travelling man,
went to DC, with a plan, with Constitution in hand,
to make a stand,to show one man,
could help in this land...what if many were to try?"

Thank you jeremiasx for going to protest, you are a good American. If there is any way to stop this war, it will start with more and bigger protests 24-7. The military record of your average Bushie shows they're a bunch of pussies. So enough angry mobs outside the White House and our Pussy in Chief will head for the hills and maybe we can get our country back.
I watched the first HBO James Gandofini interview thing with maimed US troops back from Iraq last night and I doubt I'll be able to watch another. There was no agenda.....simply the stories of these poor kids....nothing about did you like the war...do you think Bush is insane....just the story of what happened to them and how life works for them today. My wife and I were sick by the end. Yet.....every American should be forced to watch these programs.
Tell me and Alan Greenspan that a war for oil is worth the price our troops are paying. One fact that was brought out.....not since the Civil War has there been so many people come home from war missing their limbs. I am not in a position to know if life is worth living without legs, but it has to be up there in the worst top 10. Watching the brain damaged Marine sing the Halls of Montezuma, about the only thing he can do......was a killer. We should be too ashamed of ourselves to get out of bed tomorrow. What we're allowing to happen in our name......shame on us!
Shame on our 2 Senators who voted for this war. One is silent, while Pryor helps Cheney-Bush all he can. John Boozman wants to take real good care of the blind vets...without giving any thought to stopping what's blinding them. Can I rape your wife with a table leg if I bring a really big box of Band-aids and some flowers?
The Republicans were so outraged by the Moveon ad because they know it's the damn truth. The non-puppet Generals all quit in disgust. The ones that are left are Bush-bots.....soulless killers of our young.
No good end will come to an America that has fallen so far. We're at the point of becoming unredeemable and I fear the worst is yet to come. Check back after Cheney bombs Iran......we're currently living out the last of our last salad days. It's possible no one will care whose President in 2009.
