Venue changes

The benefit concerts for the Jazzy Blues Preservation Hall, the North Little Rock venue that Buz Lassiter hopes to open soon at 25th and Pike will not be held this weekend at the venue (it's not yet up to code). Instead, the two-night concert will be held at the Salty Parrot on the river at 9 p.m. both nights. On Friday, South 61 Blues Band, Bluesboy Jag, Karen Wolfe, Jawbone & Jolene and Allen McElory play. On Saturday it's Charlotte Taylor & Gypsy Rain, Swamp Donkey, Bluesboy Jag and Jawbone & Jolene. Five bucks each night, I'm pretty sure.

Rocktoberfest, the annual gathering of local fermenters, will be at Fisher's Armory in North Little Rock (26th and Poplar) instead of Rick's as originally scheduled. Beer, brats and bands.

Extremism in support of private insurers is no virtue, and President Bush was defiantly unvirtuous in resisting a Medicare bill that preserves and strengthens government-funded health care for elderly Americans. /more/
