Consumer protection

A bill co-sponsored by Sen. Mark Pryor to beef up the Consumer Product Safety Commission -- over objections of the Bush administration -- is advancing. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is fighting this, which should clearly illustrate that Pryor is on the side of the angels.

Comments

Pryor has voted too often to be "bipartisan" with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and other neo-cons to be characterized as "on the side of the angels." Yes, the Chamber of Commerce would rather have hundreds of children maimed than have profits of toy manufacturers reduced. They would come out against mothers, if somebody wanted to amend patent laws to make a medication for breast cancer affordable to all nursing mothers. But Pryor is a broken clock. If he's right a couple of times, so what?

Not to put a fine point on my comment, or anything, but think about the timing of Pryor's proposal to strengthen the product safety commission: Chinese suppliers have adulterated pet food with a toxic substance and painted children's toys with brain-stunting lead-based paint. How much courage and leadership does it take for an Arkansas politician to strike a blow for children and dogs and against them Communist Chinese?

Bush/Cheney are the Chamber of Commerce; and if the Chamber is for something you can count on it being bad for everyone/everything else other than the country's top 3 percent.

Ah ha! The Chamber of Mousolini Commerce rears its ugly head again..

Max, seriously.. you really want to defend anything Pryor? If Mark single handedly removes lead based paint from childrens toys but removes their rights under the constitution, raises them to die needlessly in war, be spied upon without a warrant or live without the right to hear charges or have representation, make them conduct torture and be much more likely than ever before to be tortured... Be a woman who has no reproductive health rights.. Well heck.. I think I would rather eat lead vitamins on a daily basis than live without liberty.

I am thrilled Congress is taking this matter on but Mark is not doing this for US, he's doing it for political gain..pure and simple.

If Mark had half the testosterone of Pelosi he would have been calling for Nords resignation in yesterdays WAPO.. After all a blogger in the Ozarks can spot the intentional failing of Bush appointed Nords throughout our entire government.. Calling anti government Bush appointees out as a sitting Senator should be second nature by now.. But not Mark who keeps voting to approve these types of appointees...See Southwick and others approved just last week and his intention to approve Mukasey's nomination.

Bipartisan gets you the same respect and honor these days as the term bi-sexual. Just tell people that you're bi-sexual and watch the guys at the gym suddenly skip the shower after racquetball. Watch people watch you around their children. Just try telling your wife you're going over to Bob's to check out his new ping-pong table. She'll think HAH.....ping-pong balls isn't what he has on his mind. Like just the other day I was....oh....wait....never mind.

Pryor isn't bipartisan, he is a Bush appeaser. Google old dead Neville Chamberlain and see how well appeasement worked for him. As Winston Churchill said, an appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last. At the moment it's not possible to tell if Mark Pryor is afraid he's going to be eaten or if he simply thinks and acts like Cheney-Bush because he is one of them.

Either way, a smart opponent could knock off Mark Pryor in the primary next year using his Bush appeasement and voting record to make him so unpopular that his own parents wouldn't vote for him. 4 million in the bank ain't nothing compared to 6 years of cuddling up to Cheney-Bush and thinking us folks back home are too stupid to notice. Trust me, Senator, we notice!

Dump the Bush appeaser!

Who could say more on this than ES and DBI. However, Pryor has picked an easy one. The folks back home will love it. Taking care of kids. I just spent some time with very conservative relatives (the blue dress branch of the family) and even they were horrified that Bush and Walmart would let poisoned toys into "their" country.

Never in my life have I seen and talked with so many people angry with their government. Angry at bush, cheny, rice, rumsfield, rove, pryor, the bugman, et al. Never have so many incompetents come together at one time. Every administration has had a few boobs but this is the taker of all cakes. I am continually astounded at the lack of ????? well almost everything. I've been around since Truman and never seen anything like it. I just hope it can be fixed.

"Never have so many incompetents come together at one time."

Ark Traveler may I quote that from time to time?
It's priceless, esp after watching R and D debates.

"They know that politicians live in stone canyons and hire smart designers to create their personas, but they check out Hillary and Obama and Giuliani and Romney and they wonder who knows about gas mileage, who has a normal relationship with children, who can truly appreciate a really good apple. And that's why Iowa is important. It's a major of driveway philosophers."
Garrison Keillor

Actually, if you look at their goal of stealing as much as they can from others, they are not incompetent at all. They hide behind the facade of incompetence so people will not prosecute them.
