Huckstering: The End Times

A Huffington Post blogger catches Mike Huckabee's act on Glenn Beck Friday, when he said Armageddon may be upon us (or maybe not for a while yet). Blogger comments:

Do we really want him in charge of the nuclear button the next time 19 zealots blow up a building, or some potentate rattles a cage? He's already on record as saying we're in World War III, and the mixture of religious extremism and militarism is potent. Maybe he thinks the world isn't aggressive enough, that the British should have attacked, say, Saudi Arabia after the London subway bombing instead of using Scotland Yard to nab the terrorists. After all, why oversee boring police work when you can overreact and become God's own "Commander Guy?"

Though it makes some nervous, Huckabee's outward churchiness helps him in other circles.

And, from a different perspective, just when you're covered up with reasons to be VERY nervous about a Huckabee presidency, comes a publication from the anti-immigrant English First group, which, in the course of jumping Huckabee for kindness toward immigrants, reminds us that he has redeeming qualities.

Should we survive the Cheney-Bush years I would hope some potential Nobel winner would undertake a study to see how much harm a President or V.P's irrational fears have had and can have on a nation of 300 million people.

I remember in the last stages of Watergate how there was speculation that Nixon was insane. I remember wondering if it was true...that all a President had to do was reach over and push a red button and send thousands of nuclear warheads in all directions? Would Nixon bring the world to an end because of a restless night when his fevered brain decided that was the only way out of his troubles?

Today we face a worst threat. While Cheney could be called insane, it's not being caused by stress from Sam Irvin or the FBI, Senate Watergate Committee, House Judiciary Committee and the press just about to uncover secret White House tapes. Cheney is operating on some kind of belief system most of us don't have. As committed as a terrorist bomber in a crowd, Cheney and the neo-cons are perfectly willing to destroy the world for some cock-eyed set of views....oh and in order to steal oil in the Middle East.

So asking if Huck would use his belief in Armageddon to hurry the end of the world so he could collect his goodies from Jesus is not out of the question. You know he'll do anything for a goodie! No doubt he is one of those with a great love for Israel. So we could expect President Huck to continue the "we don't spank" policy towards Israel to the point that he'd risk everything we have in the US to support Israel. There's your WWIII for you sure as shootin.

We're not out of the woods with Cheney yet. If the Democrats ever manage to put the squeeze on him, he's liable to start nuking US states. He's taught us a very good lesson by showing that often ideology and insanity are the same thing. Forgetting Iraq, the damage the Cheney-Bush administration has done to our country is staggering. Even if we're lucky, we may never be able to restore America to what it once was before the stolen 2000 election. Too many doors to pure power have been opened, I doubt President Hillary will want to close all of them. We are and will ever be, less free.

"So asking if Huck would use his belief in Armageddon to hurry the end of the world so he could collect his goodies from Jesus is not out of the question. You know he'll do anything for a goodie!"

Priceless, Deathbyinches.

And scarily true.

There'll be no pres hillery.
Since Cheney hasn't dropped the bomb so far why do you think he would now?
Yes 3rd wwll is right here on the arktimes blobbing site and let hope it won't esculate to something bigger.
The US is not mentioned in the bible in the latter days so you may be right we may be annilated.

If WWIII erupts, this time it will be because of Christians instead of Nazis spreading evil across the globe. I only hope the forces of good triumph again.

An atheistic society would be more moral and ethical than what we have now, where the right 'faith' allows someone to think they can torture, murder, oppress the poor, and otherwise do everything Jesus stood against, and still make it to heaven.

Surely it would be better to have a millstone around your neck than to be a Republican on judgment day.

"Do we really want him in charge of the nuclear button the next time 19 zealots blow up a building, or some potentate rattles a cage?"

We've already been there. Ronald Reagan was such a believer in Armageddon, where the chosen few would survive the hail and brimstone and the wicked would die as God had ordained and the few Jews that had converted would be among those so blessed. Remember his sec.of interior James Watt who said environmental concerns were unnecessary since we were living in the last days and if we had enough shovels some would be able to survive a nuclear attack? It's all on record, so another fruit cake with his finger on the button would be nothing new.

Cheery, chasv, very cheery. I think if I believed in a glorious afterlife sitting on you know who's right hand, I'd still not get all jiggy about Cheney-Bush unleashing WWIII. I secretly like people and I hate when anyone is having a hard time.

Isn't it amazing that Bush is hated universally...the most hated man on earth, hated far more than Osama....and yet nothing happens? He's as much in power today as he's ever been. The whole world is just sitting on its hands while Cheney-Bush continues to work their evil. By god, back in the 40s a whole host of countries joined in to rid the world of Hitler. Where are our rescuers? As we supposedly saved the Iraqi people from Saddam, why isn't anyone rushing to save us from the Cheney dictatorship?

Of course it sucks that in order to save the Iraqis the US government had to killed a heaping load of them. Wonder when someone comes to save us....will they kill a million of us....uh...for our own good....for democracy....nation building......gee that sucks too. But the world abhors a vacuum and Cheney-Bush are a million ton Oreck XL.....so someone will surely be coming to save the embattled citizens of the United States sooner or later. How'd do ya all feel about the red Chinese? Will I have to learn how to use chop sticks?

Good piece for thought dbi but I don't think anyone on earth can rescue us. We like all other powers that has been are going to fall from within.
You are wrong about Bush and Cheney. They are not hated by everyone in the world.
It is stupid for everybody to think the people in government can solve all our problems and give us what we want at the same time... No matter how smart or educated or the degrees they have they are not smart enough to run the government. Thus the damn government is tooooooo damn big. Too many taxes, too many controls and too many illegals. Some damn body is getting rich from having illegals come here.
If it weren't for God how far in the crapper would we be.
IF we weren't fighting them over there don't ye think they'd be attacking us now. Killing us.. They hate the west. So it is a small thing to say Bush is hated.

chasv, all I ever require from elected officials is honesty and the ability to tell right from wrong. Cheney-Bush have done neither. They have brought shame to our country and if anyone is trying to swim to America and kill us.....it's because of what Cheney-Bush has done to them. Now I know how the German people must have felt in 1939.

Not sure I disagree with the claim that the end times are approaching. Too many nations have access to the technology to destroy those they hate and the fanaticism to use it.

We say its them.

They say its us.

Bottom line is that, with our comfortable life-style, we have far more to lose than a fanatical group of people that, for generations, have lived in a harsh culture that we can hardly imagine. Destroying us would only bring us down to their difficult level of lifestyle - which they are accustomed to - so why shouldn't they nuke us? What do they have to lose?

The genie is out of the bottle - is this the inevitable, unstoppable slide into oblivion?

Happy Wednesday!
