Kathy Webb gets a challenger, maybe
Shows what I know. I suggested to Pavel yesterday that frosh Rep. Kathy Webb of Little Rock, who recently had a fund-raiser hosted by Democrats she beat in her first election, might skate without opposition in 2008. It took less than 24 hours to prove me wrong.
Steve Harrelson's Under the Dome says Ed Linck, 29, formerly with the LR Regional Chamber of Commerce and now in sales with LTS Logistics, will challenge Webb. I'll go out on another limb here and say I don't like his chances.
Pavel had speculated Republicans would work hard to find an opponent for Webb if for no other reason than to limit her proven money-raising skills to her benefit and not that of other Democratic candidates. I'm trying to reach Linck. I presume he's a Republican, but don't know that. Here's his MySpace page. Thanks, Lee.
UPDATE: Still no call from Linck, but I'm informed he is a Republican and that he also had an interest in the District 38 seat being vacated by Rep. David Johnson, who's running for Senate. Harrelson has updated his item to say he's talked to Linck and that he's 99.9 percent sure he's running against Webb, though he's still considering a move that would put him in District 38.
UPDATE II: Linck confirms all the above. He currently lives in The Cliffs, downtown condos in Webb's district. But if he makes a move back to a houseboat moored at the Little Rock Yacht Club, he'll be in District 38 and run for that seat. He said he's committed to a legislative run, the only question is which seat. He said he'll talk about issues after he has the basics out of the way.

You shouldn't have much trouble getting a hold of Ed, he's an attention hound.
ARK. BLOG: I left a message on his voice mail. He is a Republican, another Republican tells me. And apparently related to a Repub who got beat in a race with Monty Davenport in 2006,

Webb will win big. People will come out to rally and donate behind her if needed in a big way. I will for sure if I feel she is challenged. We need about 50 more like her. She's smart, willing to compromise, sane, grounded, has won over many on all sides. She's just decent and fair and obviously not a good ole boy and that is reason enough to keep her. O.K., I'm a fan. Does it show? This other guy should do himself a favor and find another hobby.

Ed should have learned from Steve Cauley not to publish your vitals to the web.

So, before Linck's even out of the box, he's already on record that he's going to choose his residence based on political considerations?
What happened to the idea of actually representing a district that you live in? One where you have roots? Where people know you and you know them? Where you are familiar with the local issues and have crafted some solutions--based on the experience of living there--to take to the Capitol?
Yeah, yeah, I know..."what about Hillary"? Before you trot out that one, answer this: if you think it was wrong for her to run where she didn't live, how is it not wrong for someone else?

Yes, Ed is a Republican and he doesn't live in Webb's district, he lives in David Johnson's district which will be vacated when Johnson runs for state senate. If he says he's challenging Webb then he doesn't understand what district he is in!!!! He is registered to vote at 800 North Street which is NOT Webb's district.
He will challenge a Democrat in the Heights area for David Johnson's seat. Rumored to run are: Jordan Johnson, Susan Altrui, and Stacy Hurst. Ed is a hard worker but he won't be able to beat a Democrat in the Heights area! Especially not in this election cycle!
ARK. BLOG: That's not what he says. He says he misread the district line and that he falls in Webb's district. The map posted on Harrelson's blog looks to me like the Webb district goes all the way to the river for a narrow stretch downtown that covers North Street.

It's scary to think about anyone on the Little Rock City Board in the legislature, but Stacy Hurst? Woo. Really scary.

Hm. I stand corrected then! He needs to move into David Johnson's district then! He'll never beat Webb!

Does he hang around airports often?

eLwood,
Question isn't airports, it is the width of his stance. But don't know that Webb can make an issue out of such things.

Lorax - Isn't Jordan Johnson in the same boat as Ed Link? I understand Johnson just bought a house there a few months ago and moved into the district. Looks like Johnson is district shopping too.

Think Jordan has enough distance from his support and work for Deltic Timber that led to his defeat against Kathy Webb over the Lake Maumelle issue?

Jordan Johnson fought against Deltic Timber in the Lake Maumelle issue. He worked against the legislation in the 2005 session. I'm not sure where you got your misinformation, but that issue is actually a positive for him in any campaign he might run.

I hope Ed Linck, Jordan Johnson, and Stacy Hurst all run -- the more good candidates we have the better off we will be.
If you live in one district for years, temporarily move to another, and then move back to your original district - does that mean you are district shopping? Of course not. And do you have to live in a certain district to share the values of the voters there? Of course not. Its not like you can up and move the day before the filing deadline - you have to be there a year prior to the election. If I live on one district yet work in another - which one am I "connected" to. It's a non-issue.
