Mmmmm....lox and bagels

Just got back from the Jewish Food Fest in the River Market. Hundreds of folks were out to eat difficult-to-pronounce food that's usually hard to find 'round these parts. Nobody looked disappointed. I know I left super-sated, if frustrated that I could only eat so much. On the menu: thick corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, kosher hot dogs, brisket, kabobs, falafel, potato kinishes, chopped liver, bagels, matzah ball soup, latkes, kugel, blintzes and lots of other desserts. I got the kabobs, because they looked the most substantive, and topped it with lox spread on a bagel, from the esteemed H&H Bagels in New York.

Everything was proper. The bagel was a revelation after so many grocery store imitations. The kabobs were ground beef mixed with spices and came with delicious, chunky hummus, Jerusalem salad and pita.

There's tons of baked goods, too. I picked up some gooey apple strudel for later.

The festival runs until 4 p.m. today.

Oh goodness! It would have been a Pepcid, Alka-Selzer, Tums day for me had I been there. It's been over 30 yrs since I've had matzah ball soup at the Arlington.

Btw you can buy Kosher franks at most supermarkets now. Even Wally in NWA is selling them.
"Hebrew Franks." No fillers, no intestines, hooves, etc, just pure beef from the "clean parts."

Just got in from down there. Good crowd, good food. You have exactly 45 minutes to run down there and get apple bread. Run, don't walk.

I go down to the River Market every Sunday to keep an eye on the Enough protesters, the FBI pays for photos. There was a gentleman who demanded to know why they were against the Iraqi war since they had WMDs and they attacked America on 9-11. When the protesters replied that Iraq had been an ally of America and that there were no Iraqis involved in 9-11 you should have seen the ovation and support the crowd offered. I took pictures of all of them.

"Who can protest and does not, is an accomplice in the act."

I sure hope there was adequate parking so the Roger's Storm Troopers had no reason to attack.

Sorry I couldn't make it today. I'm sure it was all delicious, but Lindsey, is something wrong with your camera? That picture is anything but appetizing. The high contrast and washed-out colors make it look like a couple of incinerated I'm-afraid-to-say-whats on a plate of leftovers, all about to be scraped into the disposal. It had to have looked better in person.

widj, I have the cheapest computer on earth with the worst video card....so even porn looks like dog vomit.....I just turn my head when a picture of food shows up. Poor me......
