Surgery set

UA System President Alan Sugg will undergo prostate surgery Thursday at UAMS. UA news release on jump.

UA NEWS RELEASE

LITTLE ROCK -- University of Arkansas System President B. Alan Sugg will undergo surgery to remove his prostate on November 1st at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

A blood test during Sugg’s yearly physical exam showed a rise in PSA levels, and a subsequent biopsy indicated a malignancy in the prostate. The cancer was caught at an early stage, and all signs are that it hasn’t spread beyond the prostate. After considering treatment options, Sugg decided to proceed with surgery.

Dr. Robert Cheek of UAMS administered the exam and referred Sugg to Dr. Graham Greene, head of the Genitourinary Oncology Center at UAMS, who will perform the surgery.

“I am grateful to Dr. Cheek for his medical guidance throughout this process,” Sugg said. “I know that I am in good hands with Dr. Greene and the fine people at UAMS. Fortunately, the cancer was caught at an early stage thanks to yearly testing. In that respect, I encourage all men over 50 to have regular prostate exams.

“While I’m disappointed that I will not be able to attend the football game this weekend against South Carolina, I’m thrilled that ESPN has decided to show it so that I can watch the Razorbacks beat the Gamecocks on national television.”

Best wishes for successful surgery and a speedy recovery for a genuinely nice guy.

I hope I am never famous enough to have my prostate discussed in the media. Best wishes, President Sugg.

If it's Dr. Greene performing the surgery, it will probably be done on the da Vinci robotic system. A day or so in the hospital and Dr. Sugg should be back to work by the end of next week.

I don't believe it is for his prostate. "Reliable Sources" have stated that it is for a juevos transplant so that he will have the uh, ahem, balls to actually fire Houston Nutt this season.

Sorry for the lack of decorum in genital reference, but you see, I hang out with Heather Mills' wooden leg, so you have to cut me some slack(s).

Littlecrock, the "lack of decorum" is the way you address a health care situation. I don't know Dr. Sugg and wouldn't know a Razorback if he bowled me over on the sidelines, if I were so foolish as to be found there. But this topic is not about Houston Nutt or the Razorbacks and you are waaay out of line.
I hope you'll remember your asinine comments in the future when someone you love is diagnosed with cancer. I can assure you the odds are high that will happen.

Damned right, Diogotta.

For the record, the word is "huevos"--the "h" is silent, of course. Damn gringo.

Prostate surgery is no laughing matter. My brother in law was successfully treated for it almost ten years ago, but the cancer came back and he is in bad shape at the age of 65.
My prayers are with Alan Sugg and his family.

Good gosh folks, I was KIDDING.

I actually like Alan Sugg and wish the best for him. Some of youse peebles just don't know when to make light of a serious situation.

and yes, people i know and love have had cancer...one died sunday. your point is moot, doigotta.

cancer sucks, we all know that.
