The cowardly cowards
A Clear Channel station in Rush Limbaugh's hometown won't sell air time during Limbaugh's show for the ad by the injured Iraq vet challenging the blowhard on his "phony vets" line. The Limbaugh crowd is feeling the pain now that liberals are fighting back. Their shout machine isn't working.
Here, too, is a good analysis by the incomparable Daily Howler.
The hypocritical Mike Huckabee, who repeatedly tried to make hay urging all and sundry to denounce MoveOn ads about General Betrayus, declines to criticize Rush for impugning soldiers who oppose the war.

Indeed. In more unexperienced years, I might have thought ignoring such ridiculous remarks would be the best route. But we tried that, for years.
Now [some] Democrats are taking names, and kicking ass. It proves much more effective, maybe because we don't have media control to begin with, so remarks like Limbaugh's actually propagate when ignored instead of dying.
Sure. There are still a lot of faceless pussies. Like Pryor.

The"Democrats certainly are taking names and licking a**. The Democratic controlled congress is so ineffective at solving any real problems, that it must try to censor Rush Limbaugh and other critics. This shows me that there is some hope that the Democrats will be unable to foist their socialist agenda on the American people. Rush Limbaugh has made several trips to Iraq to visit the troops, and they love and support him.
As Arkansans, we should ask Senator Pryor why he isn't spending more time listening to the Rush Limbaugh program. All well informed congressmen and congresswomen should devote 3 hours a day to listening to what Rush has to say and analyzing every word.

"Rush Limbaugh has made several trips to Iraq to visit the troops, and they love and support him."
Oh yes, I'm sure you know! "They" love him, for crying out loud, why do those commies even attack Rush? He's like Jesus to them (on oxycontin)! I hear "they" (referring to Iraqis) love Bush! Hear they think of him as a liberator. I hear "they" (black folk) like rap, fried chicken, and OJ Simpson, too.
You comment was only worth satirical deprecation, nothing more.

I tried venting my feeling toward Dave Elswick, Program Director/Afternoon Host at KARN Newsradio.
It went thusly:
Mr. Elswick,
I'm writing to voice my anger toward Rush Limbaugh's "phony soldiers"
comment recently on his radio program. I'm angry, not only because he said it, but because of the way he's been allowed to duck the issue with the support of his backers.
I listened to his comments in full context, they were directed toward
soldiers who disagree with the Iraq policy--period. Who are in the
majority, by the way. Limbaugh has claimed that his comment was
directed toward an individual. Any rational person can see this is
just spin, just like all those who have defended him.
I am writing in the vein hope that you will use your position to ensure
that Limbaugh will be asked to apologize to the soldiers. The soldiers
he claims to support.
_____________________________
To get the correct context you need to listen to Rush several weeks before the exchange in question. He was referring to MacBeth and others like him who steal the valor of true soliders.
I've talked on this issue on many occasions. This happened quite often during VietNam where someone would claim to have served in combat and committed or seen all kinds of terrible things. A check of their military records showed they had not been in combat but many times in the brig or drummed out of the service entirely. The media doesn't check this background and gives these 'phony soliders' a soap box that robs the true valor from true soliders.
I believe this is what Rush was referring to when he said 'phony soliders.' As a vetern if I believed Rush had been referring to soliders that disagreed with the war I would have blasted him.
Best
Dave

Mr. Elswick,
As I expected, my efforts are in vein. Your attempt to tie the "phony soldiers" comment to MacBeth is a stretch at best, and a nothing but story telling in my view. Seriously, I have to listen to Rush "several weeks before" to understand what he's talking about? Do you understand what context means? Try this: http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/context
You are either spinning for Limbaugh, or you are in denial. I'm really not sure which to believe.
MacBeth's name was not connected to Limbaugh's comments whatsoever in that conversation. I listened to it--you can't sugarcoat it and repackage it. I'll do my own thinking; your help is not welcomed, thank you.
Make no mistake, it's people like you who are harming our country. You do so because you support people like Rush Limbaugh. I understand that you are a veteran, and (assuming you served honorably) I certainly applaud you for it; but being a veteran does not give one a free pass. The people who swift-boated John Kerry were veterans too. As an American, a veteran and mostly as a radio executive, you have a responsibility to your country that is both unique and privileged. Certainly, you understand that the American people own the airwaves. Please treat them accordingly.
Limbaugh did nothing less than denigrate the majority of soldiers in Iraq. The very least he can do is apologize to them. You owe it to the soldiers to push for that.

Although I despise Rush and every lie he hides behind in order to make a buck or perpetuate his propaganda I have had concerns about attacking him in a manner which might imply disrespect of free speech.
Rush is among so many despicable things a liar and nothing like editing his own comment before playing it back as the original to his own audience demonstrates that so clearly. Nothing like Clear Channel backing up his lies to the point of denying someone, a soldier, who was attacked by Rush, the ability to PAY for a rebuttal in an exercise of free speech demonstrates what is so wrong with this picture.

Ah right out of OxyRush's playbook. Servus, you are either spending a day trolling or you bypassed the usual drink of kool-aid and have gone to main-lining the stuff. I understand when you mainline the stuff it works so much faster, there's no check on reality, no feedback to the left side filters which kinda signal to the other side if you're still on planet Earth. But then when did any of you rise past Middle Earth?

eLwood/braindead,
Please take your psychiatric medicine before posting, or at least lay off the alcohol. Your personal attacks are pathetic. Survey the military men and women, and you will see definitively that they support Rush Limbaugh. He has made many trips to Iraq and Afganistan to visit the troops. He in no way denigraded the brave men and women who serve in the military. He was very specific about who he was criticizing, and those of you who are so desperate to attack him are twisting his words in a feable attempt to discredit him. It's pathetic and obvious when people who don't listen to his program attempt to attack him. On the plus side, he's suddenly become very popular among liberals who are calling in to his program to attack him. Hopefully he can convert them from being the mind numb robot liberals that they are.

lets see.. I am a soldier in Iraq dodging bullets and IED's on a undefined mission for Bush, Cheney, and their robber baron masters with no end in sight... But today Rush Limbaugh will be here... yes, I would support Rush in comparison of those options too.

Unlike (I suppose) most of the so-called "liberals" who post here, I listen to Rush often. Have done so ever since his program has been available in Northwest Arkansas (many years). I'm so familiar with the loveable little fuzzball that I could almost do his show for him, since I almost always know exactly what he is going to say on every issue.(99.8% of the time) After all these years of intense study, I can say without fear of valid contradiction, that this guy is a big steaming bowl of horse shit. The gullible people who apparently worship this diarreah-mouth drug addict have a problem confusing entertainment with information, and would have made excellent Hitler "Yutes". Rush is the fat geek in school that nobody liked until he did something so completely insane & outrageous that he developed a following of lesser geeks. Even school shooters have their blind followers.
But...just to be safe....maybe I should reserve my opinion on this matter until I see what General Petraeus has to say about it.

This all seems pretty stupid. No matter what Rush may said, (and only he knows what he meant), I think his general support for US troops has been evident and consistent. Put everything he has spewed forth in the last 10 years and evaluate it. Is he pro or against the military. Go to a Marine platoon in Iraq and ask, "Who do you think is more consistently supportive of you, what you do and what you stand for - Rush, Reed or Clinton?" I don't think it would be Reed.

I used to listen to Rush when I had time, and like Rick says, he is a "bowl of horse shit"
mudturtle, I'd say Clinton is more supportive - she, like 70% of the rest of the country, would like our troops to be home and alive as opposed to being maimed and dead.

Anyone who thinks ol' Mushmouth flailin' for any hate target to rejuvenate his is more deserving of disgust and open denigration is sucking on an unreality deadlier than the OxyContin Limbaugh was hooked on.
How can we condemn him for duplicity in denigrating Iraq veterans, who speak out against Bush, when the troops' own leadership cheat and denigrate their subordinates for the sole motive of saving a few thousand by reneging on promised benefits. (See below)
"Approximately 2,600 members of the Minnesota National Guard recently returned home after serving multiple tours of duty in Iraq. They served 22 months - "longer than any other ground combat unit" - recieved nine fatalities, and were awarded dozens of Purple Hearts.
But the Army wrote the orders for 1,162 of these soldiers for 729 days, making them ineligible for full educational benefits under the GI Bill, which requires written orders saying they were deployed for 730 days or more. These soldiers were shorted more than $200 per month for college.
First Lt. Jon Anderson believes that the military deliberately cut short their orders to avoid paying the soldiers' education benefits:
It's pretty much a slap in the face. I think it was a scheme to save money, personally. I think it was a leadership failure by the senior Washington leadership.once again failing the soldiers. . . ."
"Support Our Troops!" - "Duty, Honor, Country" (USMA Motto) - "A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal,
or tolerate those who do." USMA Cadet Honor Code Ring very, very hollowly these days.

i listen to rush on occasion. i don't feel comfortable critizing what i don't understand and i do think i understand the blowhard. i actually was listening the day of the phony soldiers comment. he is as big a crock of shit as they come and it makes it so refreshing to listen to ed schultz after listening to the nuts and goofballs who call rush. i do find i listen to him less now that i have xm radio and have access to air america radio, but i listened to the fool often enough to know his stichck and know he is bad for the country.

Mudturtle,
Now, did all those in Iraq "choose" to go there? I doubteven 20% "chose" to go to Iraq. They "chose" to join the military to defend the US, not to aid in the privateering going on in Iraq.
But, your naivety is refreshing.
