It would appear Stephen Colbert's appearance with Tim Russert on Meet the Press was the top event of the Sunday talk shows.
He's in the South Carolina primary to win -- one delegate -- said Colbert. And though he'd earlier mentioned Mike Huckabee as a possible running mate, he indicated today he might seek someone with higher name recognition -- Sen. Larry Craig.
The NY Times called the appearance "bizarre." More bizarre than yesterday's values coalition/tent revival? I don't think so.
UPDATE: David Carr sees the Colbert appearance as another sign of the waning influence of network news.

"More bizarre than yesterday's values coalition...?"
Amen to that Mb. Maybe only a Mormon's beliefs are more bizarre than fundies. Wait! Mitt the Mormon won their straw poll.

That's just about perfect...Larry Craig over Huck, ha! And, the NYT calling Colbert's appearance 'bizarre' is, well, bizarre. Colbert fits right in with the current crop of Republican presidential wannabes. He can argue with the best of em about who's 'rightest' and whose flag flies highest.

Pat Paulsen would have slam dunked 'em all. Remember his campaign slogan?
"I've upped my standards - now up yours."

I am saving this little tidbit on Tivo for when my hard working wifey comes home around midnight. I think if Colbert isn't careful he might accidentally give Hillary a run for her money. This poor beat-down country is screaming for a new direction and by god if Stephen Colbert actually did win the top job....you can bet by the end of his first term this country would be humming like it did in the 50s.
Cause...you can't beat intelligence. You can't be dumb and be consistently funny. If Colbert and Jon Stewart got control.....oh lordy...what a great place we'd live in. Buried behind their razor sharp humor are two humans who have a great sense of right and wrong. They are heat-seeking missiles when they spot hypocrites on parade......and if it's political.....there is a hypocrite behind it.
After the team of Colbert & Stewart sent everyone in the Bush administration to the war crimes tribunal and saw that Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Libby and Rove received a nice burial without an American flag, they'd start making a series of speeches to Congress that would leave them laying bloody in the isles. Goddamn turncoats, weaklings, and pickpockets! Loose the Daily Show tongues 'O Justice on them and they'd go and sin no more.
It makes radical leftists fighting mad when they see what Cheney-Bush has done to this country and the world....but it also makes the normal folks mad as hell too and it's high time we find some honest leaders and start cleaning house. Stephen Colbert will do just fine. Bring Him On!

Hey, how about Louisiana electing the first Indian-American governor in the history of the United States! Who knew they were so progressive down there. Way to go fellow southerners.

Yes, interesting devlopment in Louisiana. Jindal (R) lost to Blanco (D) in 2003, but Blanco, unable to get sufficient post-Katrina aid for her state from a Republican federal administration, and facing criticism for her failure, declined to run again. Now Jindal will likely be faced with a Democratic federal administration. Frankly, I think he will fare better on Katrina aid for Lousiana because (a) he is a Republican, and Bush will be wanting to make him look good as long as he has any power left, and (b) the new Democratic administration will probably be more responsive to the rebuilding effort--at least, as soon as we clean up the mess in the Middle East.

But imagine......electing a Republican anyone to anything? Oh Germans, there's hope for the Nazi Party yet! The Whigs might be the next great force in America. The Know Nothing Party will have to wait for the Republicans to die out before they can rise from the grave.
To think after all the water under the bloated black bodies...that Louisiana would reward the Republican Party with a governor's seat....I'd bet my little FEMA trailer that wouldn't have happened in the next 100 years. Sucks to be them!

I hate to admit I've had my head in the sand regarding Louisiana's governor. Funny thing, though ... (and I'm telling on myself here) my initial (mis)understanding was that a Native American had been elected, and I thought, (1) how excellent; (2) how did I miss THAT?; and (3) it's about effing time. So I had a good laugh at myself when I realized my mistake.
I lost any remaining excitement when I found out he's a Republican, but it's encouraging to see someone with an ethnic background and appearance get elected to a high office.
Colbert is great for America.

Chuck Norris endorses Governor Huckabee! Check out the link: http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=58255 Talk about a totally random endorsement. But I guess the Huck should take what he can get.

Expect to see Bobby Jindal run for president in 2012 or 2016.

I was thinking the same thing, coz. He looks like he's positioning himself as the next Obama, only to me there is something of an Ahmadinejad look about him. Maybe it's just his suit.
