Let the gay bashing begin

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has approved the form of the Family Council's measure to address the most pressing issue of the day -- reducing the number of homes in which children in need of families may be placed.

The idea is to beat up on gay people by preventing them from adopting and foster parenting. But to do so, the proposed initiated act must prohibit adoption by all unmarried couples, gay or straight. The revised proposal will have voters declare that this is in the best interest of children. Really. It is in the best interest of children to deny them the fullest range of opportunties for succor in difficult times. They could not, for example, be placed for adoption in the home of a grandmother living outside matrimony with a man so that she might retain retirement benefits from her late husband.

National and local polls indicate Arkansas voters may be ready to see past this hateful sham. They may be ready to show they understand that the world has bigger problems and children too few safe harbors in a dangerous world.. The polls show the war, health care and education far outweigh concerns about further oppressing a tiny minority of the population and hurting children in the process.

If it is in the best interest to put adopted children and foster children only in the homes of married couples, where is the ballot intiative to make this the law for ALL children? Let us create vast state camps to hold the children now cared for by unmarried couples and single parents who cohabitate periodically. Is this not what Jesus would do?

I'll bet you a hubcap burger at Cotham's that you are wrong, and that gay bashing carries the day.

I'm no expert, but the Jesus I know from the Bible would be ashamed of nearly all of us. We have learned nothing from him, or at least we don't ACT like Him. I imagine He would be as disheartened as I am that his teachings are being so disregarded and that "religion" is being used for personal gain and to advance a prejudice rather than for the good of all of our brothers and sisters. Remember, however you treat the least of us, so do you treat Him (not a quote, but you get the point).

The creeps at the Family Council don't care about kids. Their only mission is to do something (anything) to thwart the "homosexual agenda." So what if a bunch of kids (poor kids) get hurt? Taking a swipe at the queers is worth the pain that will be suffered by others.

Pavel,

I agree with your first sentance but the real reason for the anti-gay amendment is to get the rightwing motivated to vote.

The rightwing will try to use the "Build the Wall", "gay marriage", "flag burning" issues so that their base will get off their butts and vote. They hope the left is too depressed to turnout.

Try not to be fooled with their method for voter turnout. They know their base is demoralized and not likely to turn out without being scaired.

I knew the Republican party was having problems when I was at my father-in-laws home which is in a resort area full of Republicans second or third homes. One wealthy Houston Bush loving lady made some comment that a year ago would have gotten high-fives and "I'll drink to thats" was met with "Bush is a dumb-ass fool that has sent America to its destruction" and no one argued.

I was nearly stunned. These retired millionaires seemed to believe that even though they would personally be better off with Republicans, taxwise, it would be immoral to vote for Republicans. They were pretty disgusted.

Hey all of you I know you won't understand but we love the children so much we'd never let homos adopt the kids. We love the children more than we love homos, see.
Hey folks get this, God does not change and Jesus is God so anyone thinking he likes homos you couldn't be more wrong.
Repent and be born again everyone of you in the name of Jesus.
ONE OTHER THING YOU DON'T KNOW IS, Jesus told his apostles that what ever they loosed on earth it would be loosed in Heaven and what ever ye bind on earth it will be binded in Heaven.. So go read what the apostle Paul wrote in the first chapter of the book of Romans binds homo on earth and in heaven. God has shown us all the truth.

bound in heaven, i.e.

Charlie, I don't know much about that "binding" stuff but I once had a real kinky girlfriend who was into the stuff. Will you just bind up the homeless kids and turn them over to Rev Haggard and Rep. Foley? We know how Foley loved them and I sure you do too.

Chasv,
Your selective reading of the bible is apalling. Perhaps you're familiar with the parable of the good samaritan? How about the fact that Mary Magdalene was a prostitue...who, as you know, Jesus did NOT shun? Or the fact that he embraced all those who society, including moral and pious society, refused to embrace because of their supposed moral and spiritual "superiority."
It is a shame that you profess to be in complete possession of divine wisdom. Last I checked there was only one human even remotely close to being in possession of that...and he died on a cross.
Nut job.

Chasv:
As a gay man, I think I'd like to go on a date with you. I'll bet you're hot. All that butch talk really does it for me. How's 'bout a lil kiss babe?

I guess this would make it impossible for a pair of maiden aunts, say, living together to take in an orphan after their brother or sister died. Leo Tolstoy, among many others, would have been in an orphanage (which might -- gasp -- employ homosexuals).

And so it goes.

Forget it spunk. Chasv is into abstinence so he's saving it for his husband.

Dear God.
Heaven is gonna be full of NASCAR and Pat Robinson and the Dow Industrials and investment bankers and antibiotic resistant bacteria?
What's in Hell?

Hey myOpinion 7 live and learn. The bible verses can be quoted anytime... The word does not change. I guess you all hate that, but, it will never change no matter how mush you try to twist it to fit your what ever.

You got the "mush" part right

Plenty of Christians used scripture to justify slavery, because to claim the Bible prohibits it is to twist the Word, but did that make it right?

We're all sinners, and our national sins of greed, war, oppression of the poor, and pride are great. To live in today's America is to participate in sin far greater than being gay.

The god of the Bible commanded the Isaelites to commit genocide, racial cleansing, agressive warfare, murder, rape, rapine, theft, destruction of private property, enslavement and sacrilege.

The Bible is very terse, yet it goes out of its way to discuss how much King David and Prince Jonathan loved one another. The Bible refers to King David as a man after god's own heart.

Are you calling King David a homo? Shame on you!
U had better be careful what you say.

2 Samuel 2:26 (David is lamenting the deaths of Saul and Jonathan):

I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

That wouldn't be the same David who impregnated another man's wife after he saw her naked, and then had her husband killed, would it?

The same.

Oh yes, and his son from that adulterous union with Bathsheba was none other than the wise King Solomon. Guess David was "just" bi. Is that better? I dunno.

You gays talk a lot of trash but we'll see who's talking when you're on your death bed. Mark my words, write it down, I KNOW that you will be begging for God to forgive you when you are looking death in the face. Misery loves company and that is why you are trying to pull society down to your perverted level. Do what you want in your own bedroom but know that you can't change eternal truths. Jesus forgave the hookers and others because they were REPENTANT for what they had done. The way you trash religious people and mock them doesn't look like you're on the road to forgiveness. Go ponder that.

What makes you think you're religious, Mr "Chi Doc Huck"? You can "KNOW" all you can imagine, if it makes you feel better about yourself, but it doesn't make you Christian. We'll see who's surprised on his deathbed.

It will be interesting to see if we Arkansans persist in shaming ourselves re: this issue in the coming elections.

Ernie Fletcher in Kentucky, one of our sister border-South states, just played the gay card in Kentucky big-time and lost.

Republicans are trying hard to place an anti-gay amendment on the FL ballot this year. It remains to be seen whether they'll both get the votes to put it onto the ballot and then get the votes to pass the amendment.

Point being, we are seeing the last gasp of this politics of gay bashing, and it tends to be concentrated in Southern states where the Republicans believe we are still fool enough to be used in this way. A new Barna poll shows that even among evangelical Christians, the majority of young voters are opposing homophobia for what it is: selective hatred of a selected group of scapegoated human beings. A majority of young evangelical Christians now see hatred of gays as anti-Christian, and believe the church has lost its soul in succumbing to hatred.

What strikes me as strange is that those being played for fools--and very cynically used--around this issue just don't seem to care that we're being treated as nincompoops and troglodytes.

We Arkansans have succeeded all too often in proving those who stereotypes in base and ugly ways correct. Wouldn't it be nice if, just for once, we decided to prove those stereotypes wrong?

Correction to previous posting: "those who stereotype us in base and ugly ways...."

Family Council indeed...more like Family Clowncil if you ask me.

Hate is not a Family Value.

"We'll see who's surprised on his deathbed." - widj

Yeah, chidochuck is gonna be in the same place as all the suicide bombers expecting the 77 virgins. They're gonna be real mad and horny. Surprised indeed.

CH is right about this being a ploy to get right-wing voters to the polls. Hurting children and gays is just an enjoyable side effect for these people.

I think I see a way to solve this problem, however. Let's post someone outside every polling place with a megaphone and a Bible and have them read the verse about David and Jonathan over and over. The right-wingers will have trouble voting after their heads explode.

I have to say I plan on being very scared when I'm on my deathbed. Every new thing I've ever experienced came with a certain amount of fear. I remember the first time I had sex....oh god....I was so horny I thought I was going to pass out....but I was twice as scared as I was horny.

Same with New Coke.....boy....I looked and looked at that bottle for almost a whole day. Then that night....I took a deep breath before I screwed off the top and poured my very first glass of New Coke. And what a letdown it was......tasted like old Pepsi.

I thought of another reason I'll be real scared when I'm about to die......where is that bag of sex toys? Where are all those floppy disks with every detail of my life that I've so successfully hid all these years? Where is that Beta sex tape I made in 1987...the weekend my wife went to visit her mother? Heck...where is that Beta sex tape my wife and I made with the new camera in 1984?

On top of all that nasty stuff....when I die, who will keep this mausoleum I live in safe from the Baptist cancer that is devouring my neighborhood? Who will go out and pat my non-running first car that I've kept for 35 years? What will happen to the boxes of Tick Art in my attic....a gift from a deranged lawyer friend?

After I'm gone who will know the 6 or 8 blonde hairs in the emblem over the back seat of my non-running first car came from Linda S's head after a make out session behind the Jewish Temple in 1972? Who will remember the 2 crumbly Bugles corn snacks sealed in a baggy in the bottom drawer of my desk came from a 1988 naked pool game with some under-aged girl named Stacy? Or the significants of a pubic hair in an old wine bottle? What will happen to my Vernon Dalhart 78s? Or my Bob Wills collection? Or my 23 antique electric fans?

Man....chasv is right.......I am going to be scared to death when I die...pun intended. And the worst scare of all is that the way things look right now...I'll be leaving my wife and kids to survive in the Cheney-Bush 1000 year reign without my protection...such as it is. One thing I know...I'll be far too busy to worry about some mumbo-jumbo higher power at the time of my death. Tell him or her to check with me later.....tell them to take a damn number!

I'll be glad to heolp, DBI. Just pack up the 78s and the Bob Wills, along with Stacy's daughter's number, and ship them to me.
