Beebe makes his pick
It took almost a year, but Gov. Mike Beebe finally got around to sweeping in new leadership at the state Securities Department. He's appointed Heath Abshure, a Little Rock lawyer, to replace Michael Johnson as commissioner. Release on jump. Happy now, neighbors?
GOVERNOR BEEBE RELEASE
Governor Mike Beebe today announced that he has appointed Heath Abshure of Little Rock as Commissioner of the Arkansas Securities Department.
“Heath’s ten years of experience in both the public and private sectors have left him well-versed in securities law and well-equipped for this position,” Beebe said. “I am confident in his ability to oversee this department with the laws and people of Arkansas foremost in his mind.”
Abshure, 34, was most recently a partner at Williams and Anderson, PLC, specializing in corporate securities matters. Prior to that, he worked two years as a staff attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C.
A graduate of the U.A.L.R. Bowen School of Law, Abshure returned to teach there over the past two years. He also earned a Masters of Laws with Distinction degree in Securities and Financial Regulation from Georgetown University.
Abshure’s appointment will begin December 10. He replaces outgoing Commissioner Michael Johnson.

Haven't had the pleasure of meeting Mistah Abshure, but his credentials and work experience are impressive for one so young.

Heath is well-qualified, intelligent and affable. He will do a good job.
Max, what do you mean when you say, "Happy now, neighbors?"
ARK. BLOG: The department shares the building in which the Times is located. Many employees have been anxious for the change to take place.
