Police beat
Or are you just happy to see me?
From the LRPD:
Officers responded to a “Disturbance with a Weapon” call at the Plasma Bank located at 824 Spring St. Officers made contact with employee Glynnis White who advised that while Gerald Watson, B/M, DOB 9/5/85, was giving blood, an unknown type caliber gun fell out of his pants pocket and discharged inside the business. After a short foot chase, officers located Mr. Watson at the McDonalds on Broadway attempting to hide to elude officers. Mr. White was transported to the Downtown Detective’s Office where he was charged with Felony in Possession of a Firearm and Fleeing.

People, I ask you; will it ever be safe to discharge a gun in a business WITHOUT drawing blood?

If I remember correctly, about 20 years ago at the Forest Park Cleaners on Fair Park, a handgun fell out of a customer's handbag and killed another customer. But as the NRA is quick to point out, guns don't kill, people do.

Yea Pavel,
I remember a mirror falling on a child and killing him. so we should outlaw mirrors? accidents happen. but when a felon has one in a blood bank.thats not an accident. thats a felony.

Oh, goody!! Let's create an analogy together, JRM. The function of a mirror is to the function of a handgun, as is the function of a ______ to the function of a ________. Fill in the blanks. What fun!

the point of your statement was guns kill people on their own, the owner of the gun killed that person becuase it wasnt secured like it should've been.

Actually, I was just trying to see how many gun fetishists I could provoke on a slow day.

Pavel,
It was Oak Forest Cleaners and it was late 70's. I worked there as a counter clerk when I was at UALR. The woman knocked her purse off the counter. Since it was muffled in the purse it only sounded like a lightbulb breaking. The victim was a very well mannered surgeon. The bullet went in just under the eyebrow and didn't even cause much bleeding. The bullet went in but never came out. He died before he slumped to the ground. In the split second that elapsed we thought the Dr. was kidding around which was very odd because he was normally very reserved.

Thanks for filling in the missing parts of the story, Citizen home. I had the name of the cleaners confused with the middle school. It didn't sound right when I wrote it, but that's all my addled mind could come up with. You may be right about the date. I would have guessed this happened about '84 or '85, but my sense of elapsed time is often distorted, as is my recollection of the name of cleaners and middle schools.
