IF Dave Chappelle or Eddie Murphy or Jay Leno thinks that making a pretend escaped prisoner appear African-descended makes the character more authentic, one can shake one's head and go on (as I did when some insisted on drawing an unwarranted connection between "niggardly" and "nigger").

When a law enforcement official with some policymaking discretion draws the same conclusion, there is reason for concern. Doesn't make her an evil racist. It does illuminate something about her (non)thinking.

jazzy, I feel your pain. Computer guru is out of town tonight, and I was trying to listen to an audio that widj linked to in another thread. Once I got to the site, I couldn't figure out what to click on, then when I finally figured that out, I couldn't figure out how to turn the volume up any further (we just got a new computer and the speakers seem to be built in somewhere instead of nice little speakers sitting on the desk with a volume knob, grrrr). And I think I have already shared my ineptitude at making any changes in my information. Maybe eLwood or hugh mann will help. Good luck, and if you figure it out, please pass the information along.
