Who needs football?

After turkey, go shopping. Wal-Mart has announced it will post its "Black Friday" specials on-line Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, so you can begin Christmas shopping on a full stomach. And it is announcing specials early, such as $139 for a KitchenAid stand mixer (that's a deal, sure enough. Mine is still cranking after 32 years.)

Next year: It'll start on Halloween. I'm joking. I think.

I don't think you're joking at all. I had reason to go into a Wally in NWA about a week after Halloween this year and there were Xmas specials displayed throughout the store, of course plenty of plastic Xmas decor too.

A Kitchen Aid for $139? Good grief! I love mine and after 13 years, it's still going strong....still. Maybe I should buy a "backup" for when mine dies. On the other hand, WMT is somewhere we avoid on Big Shopping Friday.

i would rather be shot.

Is the KitchenAid Classic (the one at Wal-Mart) really the model that's getting all these glowing reviews?
According to Cook's Illustrated, that model is a poor performer and not recommended. The KitchenAid Professional, the Artisan, and the Accolade 400 rated better. and the Artisan and Accolade were recommended with reservations. Of course, they're all more expensive. Maybe Cook's Illustrated is being too critical, and maybe the Classic is just fine. I hope so, because the other KitchenAid models are out of my price range. Cooks... ?

I have a Classic and I've never had a problem. If I were doing over, I'd get a bigger one for the size of the mixer, not the motor. My sister-in-law's pizza dough recipe makes too much for the Classic to handl and keep in the bowl. However, my beloved Nana bought me (and Mr. EY) the Classic as a wedding present. I will keep it running as long as I do.

I'm sure it isn't necessary to point this out to everybody, but a KitchenAid appliance bought 32 years, or even 13 years ago, still has a good chance of outlasting anything bought today, regardless of price. Things are just not made as well as they once were. It's built-in turnover.

If it's sold by Wally it sure won't last long. If you've never examined anything sold at Wally then you don't know about Sam's regular, famous (in house) phrase "special runs of merchandise we can sell at a competitive price."

Pity you if you need it translated.
.

I've boycotted WM and other big box stores for years for many good reasons, so their constant ads in my mailbox and the locals papers are wasted time and effort. JCP is the worst - they have constant "sales." Anyone who buys anything at JCP at full price is nuts.
That's my bitch for the day, LOL.
