Dumond goes viral UPDATE

Mike Huckabee's advocacy of rapist/killer Wayne Dumond's release has hit YouTube in a piece Talking Points Memo terms brutal in the course of looking into its provenance. The mother of Dumond's Missouri murder victim is featured.

An Arkansas Republican, Keith Emis, takes responsibility. (And there wasn't a deep secret. He's encouraged the mother to tell reporters who did the piece and his phone number appears on the registration for the website set up to carry the video.) Here's his e-mail to me:

Hello. This is Keith Emis. I organized the production of the attached video. Below is a statement regarding Mike Huckabee, Lois Davidson and Carol Sue Shields.

I saw Mrs. Davidson on CBS News last week talking about how Wayne Dumond murdered her daughter Carol Sue Shields.  Shields was murdered because Mike Huckabee began pushing for Dumond's freedom when he became governor.  Dumond was eventually released.

There is no doubt Mrs. Davidson has a powerful story to tell, but I wasn't sure she had an outlet to share it.  I agreed with her that Mike Huckabee has no business being president.

I have always been a behind the scenes guy in Arkansas politics, working for Fay Boozman in 1998 and Senator Tim Hutchinson in 2002,  so being out front on
anything political is highly unusual for me, but this is different.

I contacted Mrs. Davidson and asked her if she would be willing to speak on camera about her daughter, her daughter's murderer, and the man who helped win his freedom.  I got a camera crew to go with me to Missouri to Mrs. Davidson's home.  We filmed a very kind lady who shouldn't have lost her daughter.

Mrs. Davidson's story is important.  It's one that anyone voting in the Republican primaries should hear.

Sincerely,

Keith W. Emis

Emis, 29, grew up in Fayetteville and works in his family's Data Forms business in Greenland. He said he incurred no expenses, save gas and video tapes, and used friends as volunteer help, including one with video production experience. His uncle Donn Emis, a Fayetteville DJ, did the voiceover.

Emis said the stories about the Missouri victims' families moved him. He called Mrs. Davidson and asked if he could visit. She talked to him Sunday and he returned Tuesday and Wednesday to do the video. He declines to talk about politics, such as other disagreements he might have, if any, with Mike Huckabee. Emis comes from a part of the state where Huckabee has left many disaffected Republicans, however, on account of issues ranging from taxes to immigration. Emis wants to stick to Dumond.

"I am not supporting anyone in the presidential race," he said.

"It really made me sad. She's just a simple, nice woman [and a retired Wal-Mart employee]. Her daughter was murdered and it didn't have to happen. And it did happen because Mike Huckabee worked to get Wayne Dumond out of prison."

Mike Huckabee just got busted in a bald face lie.

At the link.

No, no. no. C'mon you guys.

We need to be very, very supportive of The Huckster until after he gets the nomination.

I sorta figure Keith W. Emis has some other axes to grind with Mike Huckabee, but no one can deny that releasing Dumond was a terrible mistake that this old woman pays for with every breath she takes and will for the rest of her life.

Hopefully the spotlight on Huck and his record will reveal how many other anti-Clinton moves he made to get into the Republican Big Boys Club. I think we've all misunderestamated the lengths Huck has gone to, to get where he is today. His happy fat boy-former fat boy act is covering lots of coldly calculated moves he's made since kicking his way into the Governor's office long ago. Beware of smiling dogs.

after four decades of increasingly pervasive and increasingly inane 30-second political campaign commercials, paid for by big $$$ contributors (who are always seeking a return on their investment) and then special-(self)-interest groups, etc. i for one, am very glad to see the internet/youtube enable longer political commentary and advocacy, in all it's forms.
(in addition to catching politicians being something other than their 'media faces')

i would argue that more than most people, Ms. Davidson has a right to speak and be heard.

First of all, Huck needs to fess up to his MAJOR mistake of letting Dumond out and QUIT trying to act like he had nothing to do with.
Second, Keith Emis is a jerk... ask just about anybody. He's in things for himself and only himself.
"Being outfront on anything political is highly unusual for me...." Bullsh**. Your 15 minutes starts now buddy.

EA,

It is well known this guy is helping the Fred '08 effort. Follow the lines of who is working on Thompson's staff and the Arkansas connections that lead back to him are clear.

Emis is no friend of Thompson's.

"Second, Keith Emis is a jerk... ask just about anybody. He's in things for himself and only himself."

Just because the Crips are evil doesn't make the Bloods good...

MF,

"Emis is no friend of Thompson"

Uh....Okay...Sure....

Yo everybody!

It's the lie stupid!

Freeing Dumond was a judgement that proved to be wrong. That is a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes.

Lying about making the mistake is the sin.

The breakin at Watergate was a petty crime - the coverup brought down a President!

Letting Dumond out was not a sin, saying you had nothing to do with it was.

"Her daughter was murdered and it didn't have to happen. And it did happen because Mike Huckabee worked to get Wayne Dumond out of prison." That is the truth of this unfortunate event.

I agree with Citizen. This issue would have gone away a long time ago if Huckabuck had just admitted he made a mistake. Instead, he tries to somehow blame it on Clinton and Tucker, when he was the sitting Governor who met with the Parole Board. This spin is right up there with "The woman made me eat of the forbidden fruit." He needs to quit being such a wimp and say "I sure screwed up on that one," which will never happen.

Until then, "Dear Wayne" will continue to jump out of the grave and bite him on the butt.
Maybe Wayne Dumond did gain eternal life after all!

Here are some information about Emis past contributions:

Carlton is a good guy. He plays dirty, but I guess that's a part of his charm. Keith Emis tries to play dirty, but isn't smart enough to really pull it off. Larell Hart is pretty much an idiot and hasn't ever really been taken seriously by anyone in a position of authority. She's also going to lose bigtime in her race against Marilyn Edwards. The fact that she is a kid in her mid-twenties running against an entrenched incumbent with 30 years of name ID built up in her district (through her involvement in county government) doesn't speak well for her political savvy and simply underscores her naivete. Sorry Larell...you're toast.

Keith Emis and Carlton Saffa
NAmes sound familiar. Did they go to the UA?

Changing Stance on Roe v. Wade
Former U.S. Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R-Ark.), who also plans to run for governor, on Thursday said that Rockefeller is "readjusting his position on the abortion question," adding, "That's really the essence of the letter." Rockefeller has said that between 1998 and 2002 he changed his position on Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down state abortion bans, according to the Democrat-Gazette (Wickline, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 5/6). Carlton Saffa, an undergraduate student at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, in March sent an e-mail to thousands of Arkansas Republicans raising questions about Rockefeller's position on abortion rights. The e-mail included a copy of a response Rockefeller gave to a 1998 Family Council candidate survey in which he said that he supported Roe. Hutchinson, who served as undersecretary for border and transportation security with the Department of Homeland Security until January, has said he thinks Roe was a "bad decision." He also has said, "My record and position on abortion has been clear from day one and throughout my political career. I support the pro-life position" (Kaiser Daily Reproductive Health Report, 3/15).

More of Emis and company from past blogging activity.

Ray Carnahan is one of the finest people I have ever met. I am totally certain that Mr. Carnahan has done nothing wrong. He was a state trooper for 35 years. He has been universally respected for his professionalism as a law enforcement officer. For those of you who don't know him, Ray Carnahan is one of the finest men Arkansas has ever produced.

About Me:

I am a rapidly approaching the 10th anniversary of my graduation from IHS (Imaginary High School). I can't believe it has been that long. I guess that really makes me old.

It is interesting to me how the events and circumstances of your childhood shape who you are as an adult. I am not currently, nor do I ever want to be, living a life similar to what I was as a child, yet the experiences of my formative years define who I am as a person today. I didn't like a great deal about my childhood, but I wouldn't change anything about how I was raised.

I am here looking for profiles on any old friends. Hollywood Jack, are you out there? If you know me drop me a line. It would be nice to find out what happened to you.

John D. Pittman? Really?
That IS one guy to watch out for. But I have it on pretty good authority that he's not aligned with the Huckster in any shape, form, or fashion.
