Fayetteville rabble-rousing

I hadn't checked The Iconoclast in several days. I missed a lot. The perspicacious Fayetteville blogger hasn't taken a holiday.

In his sights recently: lack of accountability for a Fayetteville city hire who was supposed to reduce the city's energy bill; a disastrous residential development that wasn't adequately vetted before the environmental damage began; and a funny note on D-G columnist Mike Masterson's harrumphing praise for a bust of Mexican restaurant operators in NW Ark. who may not have sufficiently observed the letter of the law in hiring employees from foreign countries.

The tasty angle on the Masterson column is that, in the same sanctimonious chorus about the need to obey the law, Masterson lamented the closure of a favorite Chinese restaurant whose owners had reportedly grown tired of the business. The Iconoclast notes that the Chinese restaurant had failed to remit sales taxes. What is it about illegal that you don't understand, Mike?

Ah...good old fashioned conservative double standards. Isn't it cute?

So much for ICE certification that was intended to round up criminals and bust drug rings. If all they can bust is stacks of taco handlers this is another wasted effort by Boss Womack and Chickenopolis.
There is a great LTE in Benton County Daily Record today (Susan Hall) on the messicun restaurant bust. Read it here, you will need to scroll down: http://www.nwarktimes.com/bcdr/Editorial/57194/

I don't know what Masterson has swallowed since signing on with ADG. In Fayetteville he was a decent
editor of the Times.

Doesn't Masterson know if his letter of the law was followed the entire Arkansas chicken industry would be closed up? People like him are the mastersons of I Can--But You Can't. Double standard indeed! You can't love chicken and hate Mexican immigrants!

With Mike Masterson I believe we are watching a mind's slow decay into insanity. He seems capable of logical thoughts then the next column he is off talking of space aliens and voodoo.

The Jamie Ward murder/cover-up story is the type of dogged investigative journalism which is a credit to journalists everywhere. But three days later Ol' Mike goes into some ghost or Bermuda Triangle garbage and you have to check the by-line to see if you are reading an Otis the dead Cat column.

My guess is that either we are seeing a trip into psychosis or maybe old chubby boy is delerious that a cute blond finds him attractive. Did he ever marry that book burning chick from Fayette Nam?

Mike Masterson's year end compilation column the other day could have been used as a hate mongerer's talking points memo.

He seems to be turning into a "dark side" Richard Allin fuddy-duddy.

eLwood, when you say, "I don't know what Masterson has swallowed since signing on with ADG. In Fayetteville he was a decent
editor of the Times," you're joking, right?
