Hawg ball and open line

It's Friday night. Maybe I'll go watch the Nashville Scrappers try to rack up another state high school football championship. (Nope, too lazy.)

Football is on the brain. I just received a fevered e-mail from a Hogville.net reader who says the chatter lately involves a report -- I can't confirm it, or find the reference for that matter --that the UA has dispatched a plane to carry Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt to NYC for the Heisman trophy ceremony. (Or maybe one of those flight-checker websites shows the UA plane made a stop in Oxford en route to New York.) Nutt's former player, Darren McFadden, is in the running for the award. The correspondent is outraged at a UA charter, if true.

Can't be true, because I found this in a Nate Allen column a week ago.

As Ole Miss coach, Nutt won't accompany the Razorback party on the UA plane to New York, but said, "hopefully I will find my way up there and be able to go up there."

I can take that to the bank, can't I? As reliable as if John White had uttered the words.

One thing is certain: big-shot college football coaches don't fly commercial.

Surely Rainer Sabin will get around to this development while blogging away from New York on his Slophouse blog. He's been with a nervous McFadden this evening. You'll find good stuff there.

MEANWHILE: Call this an open line.

Hopefully Max, you haven't entirely abandoned the blog cause I want to know if this is our OPEN LINE FRIDAY?

ARK. BLOG: Consider it so.

CHECK OUT THE NEW NEWSWEEK POLL......

Have any of you noticed the just posted Newsweek poll that shows Huckabee has now achieved a double digit margin over Romney in the latest Iowa poll? His lead is astounding. Pollsters are saying they have rarely seen a surge like this. Max, can you link to it?

This is a wild political story that a guy with little money and organization is making a national impact like this.

I have been right about most of the things about Huckabee's potential that I have posted here for a year. Keep this in mind. Because it is true. He is the nightmare scenario for Hillary. She does not want to be on a stage against his warmth and humor.

Go check his surge. Go check Newsweek. Apparently, Dummond is not moving the needle.

I'm too pleased even to say I told you so.

Is Sen. Altes home free, the beneficiary of a state's short attention span for all things non-Razorback?

I see you had already posted to Newsweek. Thanks. I'm really glad now that I asked nicely.

Why can't Arkansas just announce that Uncle Fester will be retained after the Cotton Bowl and call it a night?

StrangeTimes, if Huckabee is elected President of the United States, I'll kiss your ass on President Clinton Avenue, and give you an hour to draw a crowd.

Is Mr. Huckabee married to that weirdo tax plan? Are Republicans (in Iowa) buying that too?

I hope DMac wins the Heisman. He deserves it. I hope whomever is selected as the Repub candidate will adopt Huckabee's immigration plan. I hope Ole Miss paid for the Nuttster and all the other RATS in the sinking ship to go to NYC and NOT Arkansas, they've already gotten enough $$$$$$$$ out of us. I hope Herring is the new U of A coach as he deserves it for putting up with all the shenanigans with grace and dignity. Besides those feelings, he is qualified. I hope Malzhan stays in Tulsa. I hope there is an audit of the Razorback Foundation. i hope I get a 50" Plasma for Christmas. These are my wishes, what are yours?

Max, will you be a guest on Whad'ya Know in January?

ARK. BLOG: Nope.

Please notify Miss Blanche....Pryor gets this one right.

URGENT-Action needed today on energy bill
Date: Dec 7, 2007 11:13 AM
Dear friends,

Here's info and suggested action about an urgent energy bill. It would raise mile-per-gallon standards and mandate that power companies supply at least 15% of their energy from renewable sources. Industry mostly hates it. For many reasons, including global warming, it needs to pass this crucial vote tomorrow (Saturday).

Please take some of the actions suggested below. I just phoned Sen. Mark Pryor's office (202-224-2353) and they assured me he will vote for it. I phoned Sen. Blanche Lincoln's office, but they did not assure me she will vote for it, so please phone her office (202-224-4843). Phoning any or all of the presidential candidates mentioned below would help a lot--they need to return to D.C. tomorrow for the vote. Their numbers are given below, or you can email them by clicking below (near the bottom).

Cheers - Art

Sen. Hilary Rodham Clinton: (202) 224-4451
Sen. Christopher J. Dodd: (202) 224-2823
Sen. Barack Obama: (202) 224-2854

CompUSA is shutting down. Hurry up with that Apple Store at The Promenade at Chenal.

Adding to Curious' comments about wanting a 50" Plasma.....

I hope Dale Nicholson decides to follow Frank into retirement and Ol' Curious might get a decent ABC affiliate locally instead of a Razorback and Preemption obsessed present-day KATV

I hope D MAC does win the Heisman

I hope next legislative session Arkansas will consider and adopt a state ENDA which is also Gender Inclusive (and also a State Hate Crimes bill).

I hope Jerry Cox and his hate-filled taliban gets their heads handed to them in a defeat of the ill guided "Adoption Law" by the voters of this state.

I hope someone in the liberal wing of the Democratic Party will grow a set and run against Rep Mike Ross.

I hope that more Kathy Webbs and fewer Billy Gaskills are elected to the Arkansas Legislature.

Have any of you noticed the just posted Newsweek poll that shows Huckabee has now achieved a double digit margin over Romney in the latest Iowa poll? .......

This is a wild political story that a guy with little money and organization is making a national impact like this<<< by Strangetimes

Approximately 4% of Iowans participate in the caucus (it's not an election). What does that tell you?

It tells me Giuliani and Thompson don't give a damn about Iowa and do little campaigning there. They are working the next and first big one...So. Carolina. Even tiny New Hampshire on Jan 8 will require election skills.
-----------------------------------------
"The Republican caucuses are a straw poll where each voter casts his or her vote by secret ballot. The non-binding results are tabulated and reported to the state party which releases the results to the media. Delegates from the precinct caucuses go on to the County Convention, which chooses delegates to the District Convention, which in turn selects delegates to the State Convention. Thus it is the Republican State Convention, not the precinct caucuses, which select the ultimate delegates to the Republican National Convention in Iowa"

Hogs Coaching Search Rolls On
...
Where Arkansas turns next in its search for a coach is uncertain. But chancellor John White indicated there are plenty of possibilities remaining on athletic director Jeff Long's "mental list" of candidates Friday.

Potential targets in Long's next wave likely include Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables and Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino. Tulsa offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and Arkansas interim coach Reggie Herring remain possibilities as well.

Sources close to the situation said Muschamp has, at least, spoken with Long about the position although the depth of the discussions are unknown. ...

A message left on Muschamp's voice mail at Auburn was not returned Friday.
..

Arkansas' players met with Long and White to voice their search concerns Thursday. A source close to the team said both assistants were backed by different players. Malzahn was Arkansas' offensive coordinator in 2006, while Herring has been with the Hogs since 2004.

When contacted Friday night, Herring declined to comment on the player's meeting. He has said repeatedly he will not campaign for the Arkansas job.

If you scan all the heisman watch articles, polls, etc. it'll be tbow. but ya never know, its never over till its over, sort of like the coaching search...but if dmac loses it will be a shame....he has been the class of the program...while some others have been no class....OK, I'll go for reggie, he has kept his nose to the grindstone while all the *#@! has been flying around...the iowa huckabee poll simply points out that despite the fact we have as Olbermann calls him an idiot in chief, they want an even bigger idiot in chief...it has become me a self-fullfilling prophecy.

For Republicans, the Iowa straw poll is NOT a binding vote. Delegates can be chosen for a candidate who doesn't win the straw poll (happened once).

What will hurt Huckabee are everal things (and I list them in order of their importance):

1. Fund-raising. Despite significant voter gains, that has not been matched by campaign fund gains. His war chest remains the smallest.
2. Wayne Dumond. This has far more legs than the Gennifer Flowers story did against Bill Clinton. Expect a definite Willie Horton-style ad campaign from his opponents.
3. The Fair Tax plan. If this is sound fiscal policy, the upper crust Republicans who control the party won't put up with it.
4. Foreign policy naivete. He's made enough statements that can be used in ads to make him look like a buffoon on the subject.
5. Religion. 6000 year old Earth, chosen by God, Kenneth Copeland, and a tendency to wear his Christianity on his sleeve rather than in his heart at times makes too many people nervous about having such a person as POTUS.

As I looked thru the past winners, the most important thing Iowa does is cull out the definite losers. Huck may soon die the death of a thousand paper cuts, each one from an article exposing the truth about his past.

"StrangeTimes, if Huckabee is elected President of the United States, I'll kiss your ass on President Clinton Avenue, and give you an hour to draw a crowd."--Archaeopteryx

Despite my despair over the country's impending descent into evangelical hell, I bet I'll be there to see that bet paid! But I think it's only sporting for Strange to offer up his ass when Huck's fails to replace Monkeyboy...I'd be there, too.

TV news reported Huck's astounding Newsweek poll surge...then pointed out that virtually EVERY other poll has Huck/Mitt in a statistical dead heat. Regardless, I'm tired of Iowans (and the NH gang) being given such a disproportionate say in our country's leadership. Most states, like us, don't merit much more than a Katrina-like flyover. There's simply no 'good' reason for there not to be some kind of fair alternating primary system. You'd think we were the stupidest country in the world given the numerous voting 'difficlties' that are simply too 'hard' to be overcome.

"Katrina-like flyover," very good, Zelda..........may I use it???????????

With my blessings, Ms Jazzy!

Bejeeus, thanks for the link. As I am a teacher, my favorite is "the childrens can learn." I think all the schools across the nation should put this on their websites.

L&P,,,,the exact quote is; "is our children learning?"
I have so many favs but the one I have taped over my computer is;;;;;
"OB-GYN'S SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE THEIR LOVE WITH WOMEN."
I bought a book listing all his malapropisms and its just amazing to me how this idiot could
be elected to anything,,,,,oh, I forgot....he wasn't.
Thanks, Ms Zelda, looooove that line you came up with. Brings up the pic. of idiotmoron
peering out the window as my New Orleans drowned. I had been crying for days and there
he was, in his cushy airplane, flying over waving bye bye to all those whose skin was a little
too dark for him to worry or fret about. Oh, that we had all been born with that silver foot
in our mouth,,,,,Gawd how I miss Ann and Molly!!!!!!!

Max,
To paraphrase one of the female candidates for POTUS, "..... you lazy, lazy bastard!"
Can 't get up off the couch to watch my Scrappers win anothern? You shoulda been in the Lettermen's Lounge for the Scrapper Reunion and for the free burritos, and some of that French stuff I can't pronounce. We'd make you an honorary Scrapper Football Alum. Would you rather be a receiver or a running back?
I just want to say one thing about the Pine Bluff Dollarway halftime show: Are those dance girls in training to be strippers?

ARK. BLOG: If I"d known about the Letterman's Lounge event, I might have levered myself off the couch. And, after reading the game account, I'm sorry I wasn't there. I love Scrapper football. There may be some cities that match the community outpouring in Nashville, but I haven't seen them. Congrats.

I hope Dale Nicholson decides to follow Frank into retirement and Ol' Curious might get a decent ABC affiliate locally instead of a Razorback and Preemption obsessed present-day KATV.

Ms_ Haley 1965. You have me seriously confused with someone else. I am a tired and retired school teacher who is now seeking a good lawyer to file suit against USABLE and BC/BS for failure to pay benefits. I would LOVE to have a venue on ANY channel, though, I am seriously afraid that my comments would never be aired.

Guess again.
