Silently comes the election
Did you know there's an election in Little Rock Tuesday for 1.5 mills for the library? It would provide a half-mill for operations and a mill for construction of a children's library in midtown and a branch library in Otter Creek.
Early voting began yesterday. 17 people turned out at the courthouse, the only early voting site. Voting is only in Little Rock
The less said publicly the better, in some respects. General discussion avoids inflaming the traditional anti-tax groups. The campaign is targeting library supporters with direct mail and a phone bank is in operation, too. There'll be some limited advertising before Tuesday.
We'll be at the polls. Money will enhance computer capability and books by mail, among other services.

Sadly, I burned my library card after the enactment of the Patriot Act. NSA or whoever, setting up watch lists of certain (unknown to us) books and or use of the web. Heck I have no idea what bait hey may be setting up and though I have always enjoyed interaction with any librarian.. it feels strange knowing they may now decide on whatever whim they may have, you are suspicious and report you, without your knowledge. In fact they are compelled to report without any ability to talk about it under the law.
It's quite possible the Gopers in charge of monitoring all of us could consider reading this very blog to be a warning/ trigger.
Don't tread on me!

Max,
I am shocked. I thought that you always advocated a "fully informed electorate" and full participation by those registered to vote. Now, you seem to be advocating a stealth election whereby most of the electorate hopefully will be left unknowing and unparticipating. What type of Democracy do you preach?
ARK. BLOG: If I was advocating a stealth election, do you think I would have posted this item? And outlined the strategy?

Hank, leave those slow pills alone for awhile man.
Fayetteville defeated a millage increase that would have provided permanent funding for the Library's operations. They must continually go to the city and request an annual budget while providing numerous
services for all the county's residents.

eLwood,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Fayetteville library pulled out of the county library system when they got their big payday from Jim Blair. I don't think they provide any county-wide services. After all, that would amount redistributing the wealth Jim Blair helped screw out of working people at Tyson back to the peons whose suffering created. But, hey! Woooo, Kitty! Meow! Fayetteville Fat Cats Uber Alles!

Thanks Max for the reminder. I'll be there to vote NO. They can take the needed money from the big dam bridge project, river market trally folly account or the Junction Bridge project.
