Talk is cheap

In that this talk goes back almost two years, to spring 2006, I think the headline is justified re Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and ethics reform. He's right.  I don't think there's a huge public outcry for stricter ethics laws. Nor is there a huge public outcry in favor of helping Arkansas poultry growers dump crap into Oklahoma rivers. But that hasn't stopped McDaniel from weighing in on the side of chicken manure.

In all seriousness, though, there IS a generally low opinion of public officeholders. Some of that is based on the the public's understanding of the influence the lobby wields through entertainment and free-and-easy campaign finance rules and the swinging door into that fraternity. The person who achieved better ethics rules would be appreciated by voters, at least, if not by the lobby and legislators.

"In all seriousness, though, there IS a generally low opinion of public officeholders."

Very, very true but I don't know that it's a recent phenomena but rather tradional, going back to the beginning of this republic as witnessed by the vitriolic attacks on President Washington and the media of that day. There is an old American adage that when a politician gets to the Beltway he loses any common sense he may have possessed before taking office.

"Once a man holds public office he is absolutely worthless for honest work."....Will Rogers

That's not the message his assistant AG received from Springdale-NWA Demos.

It would be pretty simple to fix the gift-bribe giving. Simply call it the Wal-Mart rule. 99% of Arkies shop at Wal_mart and could understand it very well, not even a cup of coffee.

ethics has been thrown out the window with the baby. Damn right, ethic is gone. The legislature is full of men who have no ethics at all. I mean they completely ignore the constitution. Well, if you tried to read it now you'd see we have no constitution! It has been torn apart, stomp on, twisted around and important parts deleted or lied about by those who don't want ordinary citizens to know it.
We all know about how to do a restore on our computers when it gets all messed up and we can't fix problems that have taken it over. Well, that is exactly what we need to do with the Arkansas constitution... do a restore to an earlier date say like 1964.
I think some colleges are turning out grads who have no idea what ethics is about.
