The mushy middle
The idea of a third-party candidacy movement advances, pushed by, who else, David Broder. If he's for it, you have to believe he assumes it would damage Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee. If the candidate is New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, it might.
Here's a NY Times followup on the Bloomberg candidacy.

Comments
As if Hillary's own record shouldn't be enough to make anyone who reads an hour a day shriek in utter disdain at the possibility of a do nothing but love the neo cons senator becoming the next president.
Just another little example was mentioned in a huffpo post today:
<<<<
one of her advisers, Jamie Gorelick, is heading the effort for retroactive immunity for BushCo and the Telecoms for their violations of FISA and the Fourth Amendment.
<<<
Which explains why she did not even show up to support and defend the constitution with Dodd and a few other Senators 12 days ago. She is a failure, she is a danger to our democracy because the only folks she takes seriously are the PNAC MIC crowd and the fat corporations like big insurance and big telcos and their wealth, who could care less about we the people.
This really says so much about Hillary.. as does her hiring of Michael O'Hanlon as a military adviser.
So Hillary wants to stay in Iraq at least through her first term. Which probably means Afghanistan too.
Wants to let illegal warrantless spying on every single American citizen by big telcos, the president and our own intel agencies be free from scrutiny, prosecution, or court review.... above and beyond the law... which of course we are and will continue to pay a lot of tax money for.
And wants insurance companies to decide whats best for Americans health care.. In other words more death by spread sheet.
Wants Mark Pryor to be reelected... and works hard to raise money for/with him.
Hillary is so close to being an articulate semi-polite Cheney.. I don't know why folks are trying to deny the long list of the same people advising both sides of Big D's and big R's but it should be alarming to a lot more people..
Anybody but Clinton or the other Republican candidates, Please!

"the same people advising both sides of Big D's and big R's but it should be alarming to a lot more people.."
YES!!! AND very little will change until either a viable 3rd party emerges, or the people take to the streets. Dems a bit "kinder" for those of us who value liberty (and the apparently outmoded concept of government FOR the people, etc.) but all in all, corporate and other $$$ run the show and we go along for the ride, whether it takes us to war of the biggest sin of all, S-E-X in the White House...
Can anyone IMAGINE having sex with either resident there now - GAACK!!!!!!
Back to sanity - the NFL...

I agree with Eureka, Hillary will lose it for the Dems if she is the nominee.
I can't forgive all her votes with the neo-cons.
I can't, won't, vote for a repub, so, I'll be hard pressed, never have sat one out but maybe
this will be the year,,,,,thats a hard one for me, I have treasured my vote since I was 21.

Broder aside (who cares what he thinks?), I believe Hillary is already damaged. I'm a life-long Democrat leaning toward Obama. But, frankly, I'm so frustrated with the Dems (starting with our two U.S. senators) that I'm seriously considering dropping my party affiliation and going Independent.
In fact, I've filled out a new voter registration application form and placed it in the self-addressed postage paid envelope provided by Pat O'Brien, Pulaski County & Circuit Clerk. Just can't make myself put it in the outgoing mail. Yet. But tomorrow may be the day.
When enough people across the country register their indignation by becoming independents, both of the major parties may wake up, cease taking the electorate for the fools we are, and get serious about tending to the needs of this great country.

Conveners of the meeting include such prominent Democrats as... Sam Nunn (Ga.), Charles S. Robb (Va.) and David L. Boren (Okla.), ...Gary Hart. ...Sen. Chuck Hagel (Neb.)... Bill Brock, former senator John Danforth (Mo.)... New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman.<<
Great. The usual line-up from the Corporatacracy and somehow the others are supposed to quit being
conservatives or liberals because thing aren't moving like the corporatacracy wants. Screw'em.

Speaking of jackasses both in and of the news, click on my name to read about the New York Times' newest columnist.

Yeah John A, I'm told after Bush is out of office, Osama will have a column in the New York Times. It's just a shame that we executed that guy in Russellville who killed 14 members of his family around this time of year back in 1987. Ronald Gene Simmons would have made a hell of a columnist for the New York Times. Damn them liberal presses!

jazzy, I hope you will reconsider. Hillary Clinton is a friend of mine from way back.
She cares about people, especially children. She loves her husband and her daughter.
More importantly, she is smart, she keeps up with world affairs, she can help restore the world's faith in America. She is not as liberal as I am, but I could not be elected POTUS for that very reason.
Don't stay home on election day.

And how do we know that could possibly be true? No liberal has even been in a campaign
in 30 years. Now we have 3 on the Demo side and one is leading the pack. Not Hillary.

Jazzy,
Don't despair. There are going to be other Presidential candidates on the ballot in '08. If enough of us vote for them, instead of the 2 corporate stalking horses, maybe 2012 will have some real choices.
