Now, for something pretty

From our correspondent in Jasper, Ark.:

Comments

Yeah, its pretty if you don't have to go anywhere. I had shoveled out a track on the driveway down to the county road and met a neighbor coming back from feeding his cattle. The word is that 65 is closed around St Joe due to a jackknifed truck. Can't imagine being on 7. The forecast has gone from 4 to 6 inches, then 2 to 4, now 5 to 8. Gonna be some important snowmen made today.

Reports from Ft. Smith are 2-3 inches on the ground.
You have a correspondent in Jasper? I didn't realize the town was such a happening place:)

Jasper is a happening place, James. Haven't you heard about the quality of their main cash crop? Ha!

I just want some snow.
Just some flurries would make me happy.
My hubby is glad we live on the Saline side of Little Rock since we get less snow
then those more north, I REALLY think it sucks....
I'm just whining here with my 36 degrees and rain.

We still had clear skies last night as my cat narrowly escaped being sprayed by a skunk around two a.m. .. I awoke this morning to a clean cat and about 5 inches of snow.. It's beautiful and the sledding is fabulous.. We need the moisture in a bad way up here.. I hope we get another foot of snow!

if you zoom in on the photo you will notice an outline of the Virgin Mary. It is off to the right. You have to look real hard but she's there. Pretty clear once you zero in on her. She's right near the the third tree in from the right. Hovering a little in the air. She ain't half bad looking either. Not hot by any stretch, but given the beauty aids and billowy dress of her time she holds her own. I always though she'd be a bit frumpy. I can tell it's the virgin herself and not some other biblical or otherwise historical specter because I'm just uncanny that way.

We might maybe should alert the Diocese and let them know.

Apparently IABL knows ALL about Newton County's cash crop. Hahaha.

That's not V Mary, it's Hillary! Don't you know she's always with us wherever we go? Besides her best camo is among a large number of flakes... if you get my drift. And no, I don't expect there is a snowballs chance of this comment being allowed to stand without a flurry of replies..)

That reminds me of a joke. Well, maybe it isn't a joke so much as an observation but here goes:

Q: How do you get two otherwise peace-filled, catholic priests to fight to the death?

A: Throw a little boy between em.

Hey, I was once Catholic a long time ago due to my parents lack of education and having no choice being i was born into it, so I can say that. And that's why I can spot the Virgin Mary in the woods.

Hummmmm think I'll head off up 7.......more than yucky here in the Spa.
What is the cash crop in Jasper??? Could it be MaryWanna????

I have never met Mrs. Perme but I have a good idea what it would be like married to Ned Perme the Little Rock weatherman.

I have been getting constant weather updates since last night from my wife. She is driving me crazy. First thing this morning the wife runs in and announces that Flippin has closed schools. I asked how that affects me in Litttle Rock. Wife grumbled something about she doesn't want to get stuck at work. She works for Baptist Med Center and they will give any essential employee a room (or a cot) to ensure they are able to attend work. Wife DOES NOT want to do that!

I told wife that I will make sure she can get home today and back tomorrow. We can nearly see Baptist from our house. We can park our Jeep at the bank on Cantrell and then it is all state highway or interstate and also nearly flat to get her to work.

What is it about Ned Perme's "White Stuff" that makes women get 3 weeks worth of milk and bread and makes men get their 4 wheel drives out, or worse than that, makes men prove that their buick will go anywhere "Those nuts in SUV's" can?

Just hope all that beauty stays away from the Ouachitas. But the virgin Hillary, erh, Mary, would be a nice sight.

James, As of now in Ft. Smith, downtown out my window, there has not been one flake. No 2-3 inches on the ground. It is a conspiracy with the weathermen and the grocery stores...I'm sure they get a kickback. Also the makers of all the stuff that the weathermen say we need to have in the car, ie flares, 4 days supply of water, food for a week and emergency blankets. This not to mention the radiation proof duct tape and sheet plastic. You never know when a terrorist is going to strike in the middle of a snow storm in Arkansas.

That photo makes me want to go hiking in the Ouachitas. I love winter but I'm ready for just one sunny warm weekend.

I grew up in Dogpatch, maybe 7 miles or so from Jasper. I was in Mt. Judea a month or two ago. Beautiful country but hard to make a living.

I'm breathlessly happy to report that FortSmithBoy didn't wait long enough before giving his weather report. At the moment Fort Baptist is covered in 2 or 3 inches of beautiful wet snow, with gigantic flakes the size of Republican hearts coming down in the most delightful way. It's freaking beautiful outside my window as the sun goes down!

Even the old folks at Next Stop Death were excited earlier when I popped in to see Ma. It will be the last snow for Ma's roommate, but bless her heart she was too doped up to wake up when I pulled her blinds up for her to see. Good luck Janet, I'd do my part to enjoy the snow enough for you too.

DBI....You are a good son...

oh man oh man. I am so jealous. snow is my favorite thing ever.
I want to see big ole gigantic flakes. please send snow my way.

Well it started snowing again an hour or so before sundown.. It's not adding up..looks almost like a fine fog of snow. Fortunately the snow has helped me verify my suspicion.. foot prints are leading one out from underneath the back porch.. I think a damn skunk may be trying to set up permanent residence. Aside from all that.. the world is a beautiful place tonight.

Check those footprints carefully, Eureka, it could be Huckabee dropping off campaign literature!

Nice photo. It is beautiful photos like this that make me proud to live in Arkansas....Thanks for the post.

On the evening of July 20, a concerned aunt drove her 26-month-old nephew to a Department of Human Services office in Little Rock to show caseworkers the bruises on his buttocks and back. The child had been spending the night at his aunt's when she changed his diaper and discovered the marks. /more/
