The end of the Republican Party
This isn't me saying this, but David Brooks quoting Rush Limbaugh.
Meanwhile, the Republican prospects in the fall just got even dimmer. I say this not only because a weak general election candidate won a primary, but because Mitt Romney’s win pretty much guarantees a bitter fight for the nomination. If you doubt that, here is what Rush Limbaugh said about McCain and Huckabee on his program today: “I’m here to tell you, if either of these two guys get the nomination, it’s going to destroy the Republican Party, it’s going to change it forever, be the end of it.” This week, Rush and his radio mimics have been on the rampage on the party’s modernizers, from Newt Gingrich on over.
Heh.

Comments
David Brooks likely wasted the greater part of his youth playing with him self.
Consider:
Brooks:
"The third thing that happened tonight is that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards disgraced themselves in the minds of debate-watchers everywhere. At some point in each campaign, candidates are asked to name their greatest weakness. Only the lamest political hacks answer that question this way: Goshdarn it, I just care too much. I am too impatient for good things to happen.
Giving that answer is an insult to the art of politics. And yet Edwards and Clinton both gave that answer. "
Somehow we never have such questions for Wingnuts. We never heard of any such questions for
Monkey Boy and Darth. Does that not seem weird to Brooks? Hope he avoids airport bathroom stalls.

He certainly wasn't saying that about Bush, and Huckabee's policies are almost completely aligned with Dubya's.

Maybe Brooks and MonkeyBoy were once lovers or at least stall tappers together.
As devilsadvocate points out he never said such trash about Bush and Cheney who have already beaten
any Republic wanna be towards destroying the Republican Party. I doubt those hundreds of thousands of Rove vetted appointees/hires who were planted deep into the bowels and nervous system of the bureaucracy will claim allegiance to ChenBush.

I did some rough math and it looks like a total of 20% turnout in the Michigan primary last night...
12% R and 8% D (of course, it doesn't matter about the D's)...
Looks grim for the GOP, indeed...
Best thing that could've happened for the Dems last night was Multiple Choice Mitt's victory...
he he he...

"The third thing that happened tonight is that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards disgraced themselves in the minds of debate-watchers everywhere..."--Brooks
I can live with that. Compared to wanting to insert Southern Baptist Jesus into the Constitution and intending to fight in Iraq for another 100 years...I can live with Hillary/John's so-called disgraceful behavior.
The Republican Party is far from dead; and the Dems should think so at their peril. In fact all of us should be nervous at a wounded/desperate Republican Party. History, history and more history.

Like Zelda, I'm not holding my breath until the Republican Party dies. I'm afraid Republicans would be like my mother used to say about Baptists: "They multiply by dividing."

" Rush Limbaugh" ????
A drug addict pervert has some kind of hold on some folks. Phooey. Nonsense. The GOP will be around a long, long time. It's a mindset. That mindset will be around. It's imbedded in both parties. It's permanent.

I don't believe the Republican Party is dead...I do, however, believe that the Reagan Neoconservative Coalition has lost its stranglehold and is starting to unravel.

500 billion plus spent on Iraq.
25 million people in Iraq.
Average number in household is four.
We could have spent $80,000.00 per household over there and been better off than what Bush/Cheney came up with.
