The low state of the GOP

John Brummett examines the weakened Arkansas GOP, which so far hasn't scared up an opponent against U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor. Party Chair Dennis "What we need is another 9/11" Milligan admits what Republicans have been saying for a long time -- there's no point stirring up Pryor's Get Out The Vote effort with a weak candidate as long as Arkansas has a chance of delivering the state to the Republican presidential column. Excited multitudes -- particularly black voters -- marking a ballot for Pryor are certain to vote for the Democratic presidential candidate, Republicans tacitly acknowledge. More small-d democracy through broader vote participation? That's never been part of Republican election strategy in the South. Quite the opposite. See: Timothy Griffin.

They republicans don't need an opponent to run against someone who supports the Iraq war and votes for every draconian, constitution gutting measure the president desires. Sounds like they've already got a republican in office.

Good point, square. Pryor is the wolf in sheep's clothing.

Huckabee would have had as good a chance as anyone of winning Pryor's seat, had he not chosen the presidential race instead. I think Huck's rationale this whole time has been to shoot for the top spot while his truer aspiration was for veep.

"...the refreshingly candid new state Republican chairman, Dennis Milligan...."

That's an awfully nice way of putting things, John.

Yeah...why would the Repubs go after one of their own? And, why would Mark change...he's got the Democratic name/money and Republican support. 'This' kind of Dem has got to go.

I read where 70% of the Michigan black Democrat primary voters voted they did not support Hillary. If true, the Dems should be concerned.

You beat me to it, square. "You can fool some of the people......."

So they question is: if no one's running against Mark "I love torture" Pryor, how many votes does the Green Party candidate, Rebekah Kennedy, get? I mean, she'd get my vote no matter what, because I'm not doing to be dragged into some tiff about voting for a spoiler when it comes to Pryor, who's as bad as it gets. But in the absence of a Republican candidate, how many people of a truly progressive spirit are going to vote Green? Anyone here got any gut feeling on that?

In some ways, I'm surprised the Republicans aren't running someone, just to help one of their fellows keep that Fear card in play.

G., you can put me down as a moderate who will be voting for Green.

I voted for Kennedy against Dung Heap McDaniel and I'll do it again in November against Cheney's boy Mark.

If no one else wins, Rebekah will get a lot of votes cause there are too many people who will never vote Pryor again. Hell, I even put all my Richard Pryor albums in the attack cause I can't look at that name. Arkansas has a chance for a "Jesse Ventura" moment. But it's going to take a whole lot of work from people like us.

We can't just sit here and blog Pryor out of office. We're going to have to show up at every Pryor campaign stop and make sure everyone assembled knows the Bush-Lieberman-Pryor record. We don't have to tie Pryor to Cheney-Bush, he already is of his own making. But we do have to POINT IT OUT to the sheep who are used to voting Pryor whenever they see the name on a ballot. No real Democrat would vote for this Pryor, but some not paying attention will if we don't educate them.

Like his mentor, Bush, we'll be better off sending anyone else back to DC. We're fortunate that a bright young woman is willing to disrupt her life and career to mount a Mt. Everest challenge for the good of America. Every sheep that is made aware of the Bush-Lieberman-Pryor record will be a vote for Rebekah. It is our duty to make this campaign the most painful experience of Mark Pryor's life. Not by Swiftboating him or spreading rumors he's got a black child, but by hanging him with his own sorry, dangerous, stupid, record. Tell your black friends that Pryor is no friend of there's. If Granny can't vote Green, ask her to skip that portion of the ballot.

What message does it send to the world if Arkansas reelects its smiling boy torturer? Get up! Slick your hair back and tell someone about Mark Pryor today!

You folks don't realize how heart-warming it is to hear hallelujahs about our Green Party Candidate Rebekah Kennedy. DBI nailed it correctly with "We can't just sit here and blog Pryor out of office" and everyone of us knows it's true.

You can send 50 or 100 bucks to her campaign which will enable us to double your vote against Mark Cheney Pryor. It will also help us get a greening of America going. Arkansas is in a position to make political history by sending the first Green to the U.S. Senate. Rebekah is a working woman and must continue her job duties throughout this campaign unlike Lu Hardin who gets paid with tax dollars while taking time off to campaign for the Biggest Loser.

I also suspect that Mark and the DLC fear that Rebekah is catching on. With no Republican Senatorial candidate the state party saw fit to send a fellow with Pryor bumper stickers and yard signs into NWA recently.

All you Clinton supporters need to do twice the work and donate twice the cash to Kennedy in an earnest fight of the Clinton Pryor machine when it's so egregiously wrong in every fundamental American way. Hillary may be smart but she needs your help here and now. How can we expect to get semi respectable judges and other nominees to federal positions with Mark Pryor in the Senate? Mark consistently supports ALL of the worst nominations in modern history! Blood and tortured screams of agony are on all our hands.. Torture for Mark is just a giggle, as is the idea of every single female receiving health care in a back ally with a coat hanger. All he cares about is bombing entire nations into the stone age while taking away our blood earned constitutional liberties to the point of pre Magna Carta (Issued A.D. 1215).

Next time you see Mark in person or a photo..take a long look. That is what a tyrant looks like.

If you want America to be like Iraq under Sadam Hussein, well vote for Patriot Act lovin' Mark Pryor! If you have any appreciation for The Constitution or The Bill of Rights.. Act like a patriot today!

Yes, and the difference between MP & whomever the Revangelicans could nominate would be: ________________________________________________.

I know I've posted this before, but it's my fav' re him: I got a letter from him responding to mine urging NO on any "sanctity of marriage" folderol. 2 days later I inadvertently opened another letter from him, left in MY PO Box by misteak to a local constituent who obviously wrote to him SUPPORTING this un-American religionist BS. The letters were identical EXCEPT the "other" one was MISSING this paragraph (just to be clear it's only IN the letter addressed to me):

"Amending the Constitution is serious business, and the need for such an amendment should be clearly and convincingly demonstrated. I believe amending the U.S. Constitution is not necessary in light of Arkansas' (OOPS!! isn't he supposed to say "Arkansas's?") prohibition and the Defense of Marriage Act."

I have both letters, and am looking at them right now, in case of disbelievers
...just in case ANYONE out there has a problem with calling him both a slimy hypocrite AND a liar!!
