Willett running for Jonesboro mayor

Former head of the Arkansas Democratic Party Jason Willett tells us that he's planning a run for Jonesboro mayor. Current mayor Doug Forman announced earlier this month that he won't seek reelection. Willett, who is now a lobbyist for FJW Consulting, said he would make the area's economic development the focal point of his candidacy. "Jonesboro is growing and progressive, and I think the next mayor is key," Willett said. "We're all looking for the next big super project."

Well I sure would like to hear the former head of the AR Democratic party define "progressive" much more explain how all that fancy Little Rock cocktail weenie experience will pay off for the good citizens of Jonesboro.

Jonesboro may be growing, but progressive???!? Blogga please.

Jboogie is indeed progressive, they even allow color'ds to eat with white folk up there..

wait what is that? they don't go by color'd no more? well maybe not as progressive as I thought

To his credit E.S. Willet did see that many small, Demo campaigns around the state were funded in 06 which partially accounts for the overwhelming Demo victories state wide. As to his free-wheeling social life it didn't seem to matter much outside of L.R. and the 30-something crowds. His expenses will be closely monitored as he steps into a smaller playing arena. This is due in part to the different rules and higher visibility. He likely has hopes for higher office in 4-8 years so Jonesboro is a good starting place.
.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Willet opened the first permanent Demo office in NWA which is now on
E. Robinson in Springdale.

I never thought of a city that doesn't trust grownups to act mature with alcohol a very progressive place.

I wonder if Willet considered that a sizable hunk of the voting populace in Jonesboro had rather be shot than be "progressive." He could get all the "progressive" votes and still run last in the race.

Hey I'm a NE Ar. girl, don't be trashing Jonesboro, a young guy with some fresh, new ideas may be just what the city needs.
..and Citizen would you also agree our neighbors to the west, home to Hendrix and UCA...Conway is also among the unenlightened and backward??

Slogan: "A chicken in every pot. A Hooters on every corner."

Yeah, he's got plans for the Congressional seat in 2010. Course he'll probably have to run against good 'ole Dustin.

Dustin is Willett's best friend and has stepped aside for a 1st District run by Willett. Besides Dustin has his eye on Governor.
