Got any spare change?
If a thief searched your house during a party, how much spare cash would he discover?
At my house, after the untold fortune in the loose change jar, maybe $13.
Guy arrested for tossing John Tyson's place (that's him at right) picked up $140,000 or more.
On Jan. 2, John Tyson reported the theft of the cash from his residence. Tyson said he had collected the money over time and had the money in a briefcase he kept in his private living quarters of his home.

Sort of sounds like Mr. Tyson might have been putting away a little "just in case" money -- as in "just in case I have to pay a huge ransom" or something similar. I mean, we've all seen enough cirme/mobster movies to know that the only reason to keep serious scratch in a briefcase is if you need to trade it for something, or someone, at a private meeting in the warehouse district.
Well, either that or if you suddenly have to escape the country....

Call me a fraidycat, but I don't think that's the kind of information I would advertise.

$140,000 cash in a box? Well, to someone used to milking the company coffers, thata not a whole lot of cheese.
Better part of the story - young thug steals cash . . . his share is about $50,000. His bail is . . . $50,000.
Double-Duh.

With all the crime/mobster movies that I have enjoyed, none involved a ransom for the paltry sum of $140,000.
So, was this the stash "for recreational use" only? (sniff, sniff).
Or did brilliant young thug not notice there were 12 other bulging briefcases sitting on the next shelf?
I'd love to see the explanation on his homeowner's insurance policy claim he submits and their response.

$140,000 to $160,000, huh? What's the poverty level now? About $10,000 for one? Just think, good ole John could support a couple of single person households in the style to which they're accustomed just with the I dunno factor.
Oh, right. He already does that, every single day and thousands of times over without considering the I dunno factor.
Folks, it's past time to quit buying hot wings and nuggets and plant a garden. Few potatoes and greens now, maybe some English peas, then about mid to late April, some tomatoes (drool -- can't help myself) and purple hulls. Get out there and dig up that back yard, maybe even the front yard. Let John count his pennies a little closer.

Don Keyhotay:
Perhaps your right. Maybe Mr. Tyson had only recently started putting back his "spare change," thus accounting for the rather small amount in ransom-terms.
Or maybe Mr. Tyson has only seen crime/mobster movies made in the 1940s or prior.
Or maybe Mr. Tyson was hoping that whomever demanded the ransom would not be very bright or experienced in such dealings, and request a small amount. It's been known to happen, after all.
But the recreational usage does seem most plausible.

The part that caught my eye was the "tyson child threw a party without john tyson's consent".
You know that "child" caught some hell over that.
What would be the punishment for your kid if they threw a party and soneone tracked mud on the carpet, used bedrooms for making out, skinnydipped in the pool, and oh yeah, stole 150 G's in loose change?

$140K-160K ?
That's not even one month's pay check for the man.
But one supposes such an amount would buy a lot of influence in places like Little Rock where bridge weight standards are determined, where allowable run-off into streams is set, etc.

"...private living quarters of his home."
Umm, isn't ALL of your home your "private living quarters?"

Kid just got greedy. Take about $10K of that and Tyson would have never known it was gone...lost in the laundry or under the bed.
