Looking gift horse in mouth
Mike Huckabee spoke and received a fee at the San Antonio church of televangelist John Hagee, a notorious purveyor of Catholic bigotry. Yesterday, Hagee endorsed John McCain. What did Huckabee do, given this unexpected opportunity to separate himself from Hagee? He expressed disappointment.

Reminds one of an old joke recycling thru the net on
"Tough Love"
A dying man smells his favorite oatmeal raisin cookies cooking downstairs. It takes all the strength he has left but he gets up from the bed and crawls down the stairs. He sees the cookies cooling on the counter and staggers over to them. As he reaches for one, his wife's wrinkled hand reaches out, smacks his and she yells:
"No, you can't have those! They're for the funeral!"

(You might want to be more specific about "anti-Catholic" bigotry.)
Not getting this endorsement won't make any significant difference in Texas. Hagee and his extreme craziness don't have that many true supporters. His main support is probably a set of older, gullible, naive, older folks who only watch him on tv and send in what little is left of their S.S. checks - just enough to keep the cameras running and maybe his limo driver, opulent mansion, etc. And these folks are spread all over the country.
I find it interesting that Huckabee has run a campaign so very different from what brought him success in Arkansas. There was never a way for him to get the nomination with this strategy - which begs the question, what's he really after? It looks more like the cable show every day to me.

BWC,
Not sure if you meant "religious twist" or religious twit", but either way it's funny.

Is there any part of the Evangelical gang that isn't motivated by hate of everything non-Evangelical? 'They' are basically a horrid, hateful group of white arrogant men who've shaped their worlds according to their insecurities and so they can live off others while never doing an honest day's work. For balance, I'd say something positive about em...if I could think of anything. Ignorance and meanness is a sickening combination...they make my skin crawl.
On the bright side...I'm seeing less and less of Huck's foolish face on my TV. In fact, it's been days...hallelujah!

Perplexed, you seriously underestimate the breadth of Hagee's support.
For one thing, his entire "ministry" is based on provoking an American nuclear war against Iran so that it might trigger the onset of the much-hoped-for Armageddon in the Middle East, reinstall Israel as the sovereign ruler of Jerusalem and set up the Second Coming so that the Zionists, who constitute a major support base for Hagee, may be cast into the lake of fire unless they agree to renounce Judaism and accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
Zionist support for Hagee is substantial. The documentary I saw about Hagee showed his supporters to include many younger people.

I tend to agree with Earl Swagger on Hagee's influence among evangelicals. Several times while chanell surfing I have run across his tv show. The church itself is HUGE and is filled to the brim with people of all ages and colors. He is a commanding presence when he is in the pulpit and seemed to have the congregation in the palm of his hands. His endorsement of McCain is significant among his followers because of his call for a nuclear attack on Iran. Huck has not and probably will not do the same. Most likely McCain will echo Hagee throughout his campaign. The old war hawk just can't leave it alone. You know the saying "might makes right."

Oh, I have seen that Fat Ass on TV while channel surfing.
The first time he was in some desert camo outfit, thumping the Bible and doing all sorts of carrying-on.
I went to wikipedia and read the definition of mega-church and it pretty much fit exactly with what I was seeing.
