School supt. booted

Thanks to the Under the Dome, I learn the Texarkanas School Board booted its superintendent, Paul Dee Human, for mismanagement. He will not be missed. He was a tireless promoter of  Bible study in the school curriculum. He lost a lawsuit after trying to teach Bible in Gentry and had added a Bible class in Texarkana. He'd also worked to partner with a Baptist church in a local charter school. From Appellate Judge Buzz Arnold's ruling against the Gentry Bible class:

“Even on the relatively undeveloped state of the record before the court, it is quite clear that the course in question is predominantly religious and devotional in nature. Many of the songs taught in the course are religious, although some contain moral messages as well. For instance, the song ‘Countdown’ discusses Jesus’s Second Coming to Earth, the song ‘My B-I-B-L-E’ is self-explanatory, and ‘This Old Saint’ unapologetically states Christian dogma. The song ‘L.O.V.E.’ speaks of Jesus’s love for mankind, exemplified by his crucifixion. Even if nothing else was taught, these songs alone would render defendants’ program constitutionally infirm. But there is more. In classroom discussion … one of the teachers emphasized that ‘Jesus is our gateway to Heaven. He laid down his life for us so that we could get to Heaven. He is our shepherd and he wants us all to be one big flock of sheep.’ These teachings would seem to have no secular effect whatsoever.”

Would no one have gone to heaven if Jesus wasn't crucified?

That is a question I can assure you they didn't discuss in that class!!

Where do these clowns come from? Had he been content to put a comparative religion class in the high school none of this would have occurred. However, we all know these people can't take a comparison, because only they have it "right". Such little minds, such big fears.

If I could stomach it, and I know I can't, I'd go down on Mussett Road in Fort Baptist and join up with the Buddhist at their colorful temple. Then I'd set out to do my best to inject Buddhism into the court house and schools and every other public place and faith-based organization in town. It would cause more trouble than our resigned City Administrator trying to sneak back into his old job.

Since I got grown and my eyes opened, religion doesn't harm me. My kids are smart enough to ignore a class like this if they were forced to take it in school. I successfully hide from those Watch Tower people all the time. It's just the idea that one brand of religion is being forced upon people that upsets me. Since we moved our kids out of private school, I've spent plenty of time watching little Buddhist and Muslim kids scratching their heads during the Christmas play at the schools near the compound. And in none of those years was there ever a mention of any other brand of religion other than Christianity. What's fair about that?

If every two bit religious group tacked up their propaganda in our court house, you'd not be able to get in the door. If they all got a 10 minutes class on their brand of religion....they'd be no time to teach reading and writing in our schools. That's why I want to keep religion out of the class room and out of our public buildings.

It's a lot like the new Yard Nazi rules in Fort Baptist. Ever since the City of Fort Smith decided looking out for public taste beat looking out for public safety, there's been a war going on FS. There are lots of threads in life you shouldn't pull, and letting someone else's taste dictate what goes on on your property opens up a giant can of worms, just like letting one group dictate which religion will be flaunted in our public institutions.

Since there are more churches in FS than beer joints, I think there are plenty of places to teach about God's Love, we don't need it in the court house or the class room. So out! Out damn spot I say! It's all or nothing and I say nothing is the best choice unless we want to constantly be at each other's throats. And bless the Arnold brothers! The best 2 legal minds to hit Arkansas in the last 172 years of statehood.

Ref Bill Maher video 'We're Not the Crazy Ones'

Recommended if there's anyone who hasn't seen it.

The "Real Time" host argues that it's about time for the growing rationalist" minority to challenge the ubiquity of religion in politics.

If this is the same Dr. Human who was supt at Lonoke a few years back, then he was also dismissed from Lonoke for questionable accounting, etc. Seems this Bible-beater is a phony thru & thru.

Understanding the concept of freedom should be required in order to get a high school diploma and a diploma should be required to vote.

So few people seem to understand freedom. So many believe freedom is making others do what I want them them to do.

Freedom is me not forcing you to do something and you not forcing me to do something.

Marry who you wish, don't marry anyone you don't wish, that is freedom. Kiss who you wish and don't kiss anyone you would prefer not to kiss, that is freedom.

The statement that hacks me off the most the idea that if you don't want to believe or do what I like then you can go to some other country where they like that sort of thing.

How is that freedom? There was some chick spouting that idea of freedom in the DemoGaz letters to the Ed this morning.

That idea can only be hatched from a mind that if I were king would not get a highschool diploma and would be barred from voting.

I successfully hide from those Watch Tower people all the time. <<

No need to hide DBI. Just hang an American flag around your entrance/yard. It's like Priest Off. Jehovah s have a deep distrust of it and hence anyone who flies it. When they were working my neighborhood I stopped by one of those $1 stores and bought a few hand sized flags. When the Jehovah's show up I say "I have just the thing for you" and give them a flag. You would think they had been tasered.
Keeping a flag out front gets you into some very interesting conversations with local wingnuts too. You get their pov on everything. When you go out of town for a few days just ask them to watch your place.
It's like free armed guards.
