Signing up for judgeships

Secretary of State Charlie Daniels says 61 candidates for judgeships took advantage of the petition alternative for qualifying for the ballot. The full list is here. Judicial candidates still may pay filing fees -- more than $5,000 for some judgeships -- to file during the regular candidate filing period March 3-10 for the May 20 primary. But some contested races are already apparent. More are to come for Pulaski County seats, where petition requirements apparently are higher and all the candidates plan to pay filing fees. Typically, though not universally, judicial candidates hope for lawyers' contributions to offset such costs.

Comments

Noticed that "Senator Shawn Womack" (apparently Senator is now in his given name) used the petition route...I can't imagine that he would have that many clients let alone that number of people who actually think he can be Judge. Remember the old saying about a LA Attorney General: "If you want to hide something from him, put it in a lawbook"--it should apply to Senator Shawn Womack as well.
