Allo, allo (Updated)

To be fair, I must report that AT&T has sent a repairman out on a chilly, drippy day to work on the busted phone connection I reported about yesterday.

The phone isn't working yet, but a polite fellow is slogging around the neighborhood in a full foul-weather suit testing various wires -- in one day instead of the eight-day wait time predicted by AT&T Saturday.

UPDATE: A nice fellow by the name of Sonny spent a good long time in the rain testing the AT&T lines in the neighborhood and, for now at least, seems to have fixed the malfuntioning phone line. I must say that others in the past have thought they had the problem fixed only to have it (no dial tone and incredible static on the line) crop up again later.

Well, well, the power of the modern electric press. Can we be allowed the hubris of thinking local AT&T personnel (up the food chain) are reading the AT blog? We know there are meter readers like CJ who read it but does CJ tell his bosses?
.

Whatever the reason, give credit where credit is due. Rainy Sunday repair is commendable. Bet the service tech was paid overtime.

The guys slogging around in the rain for 10 hours on a Sunday working on the lines are not the same guys who sold out to dubya & them. I know at least one who spends at least some time reading this blog. He's salt of the earth; as good as they come.

With all the recent flooding (and snow and tornadoes and other typical Arkansas weather) these guys are working long shifts for many days in a row without a day off. I hope they're paid well--they deserve to be.

This exact problem happens at my house after a big rain, funny it didn't happen the last time. Anyway, the problem for me is some old junction box about a block from my house. When it rains hard something fills with water and boom...there goes the telephones.

The last time this happened was at the start of this winter, last fall and the phones didn't work for a couple of days. Maybe they fixed the problem once and for all cause it poured on the 18th and we still had working phones. I agree about not mistreating the AT&T working men and women, but dang.....the ones to blame for blowing Bush 24-7 are never accessible. I'm off to pound some round steak.... which sounds dirty if you say it fast.

Haven't had a land line in years, don't need one. Cell phones seldom experience problems, and offer protection from telemarketing.

Soooooooo, what did you pound it with DBI?

My meat hammer! Oh.....that sounds even dirtier. I made President Ford round steak last night. It's so much better than Gerald Ford ever was.....but the old boy knew about good eatin...I'll give him that. And remember....we need to use a meat hammer on Mark Pryor at the polls this November!

AT&T is no worse than other corporate giants. I get infuriated the way they all use phone trees to keep us from talking to a real, live person as long as possible, and then that real, live person is smack dab in the middle of New Dehli instead of Little Rock.

But we all want cheap internet, cell phones, computers, etc. It's a shame, but it's all about the buck and how cheaply they can offer their services.
