Arkansas Obamaists
Arkansas Democrats will select national convention delegates today. I received this squib overnight about a piece of inside political baseball:
A little excitement at the Democratic convention tomorrow. Party Chair Bill Gwatney sent out a letter endorsing Rep. Linda Chesterfield for one of the "elected official" positions for Obama delegate. Pulaski County Clerk Pat O'Brien's forces (he led Obama campaign locally) are fixing to fight, apparently with the backing of the national Obama folks.

Comments
Speaking of Obamaists, it appears you can count a Nobel Laureate among them:
"Hillary Clinton had no direct role in bringing peace to Northern Ireland and is a "wee bit silly" for exaggerating the part she played, according to Lord Trimble of Lisnagarvey, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and former First Minister of the province."

Gwatney is a Clinton delegate. Why is he endorsing Cesterfield for an Obama slot? Something ain't right.

I'm hearing that Pat's already got it. Intraparty politics rears its ugly head, again.

Could someone inform us less educated folks on the blog how the Arkansas delegates will vote at the convention since as I remember, Hillary won the Arkansas primary by 70% of the vote? Does this mean that 70% of the Arkansas delegates will or must vote for Hillary when the roll is called up yonder...in Denver this August?
If my youngest daughter hadn't taken off for a Quiz Bowl contest at 7 am this morning, I could ask her this question. She's a real political wonk.....just amazes me..... Republicans better start praying she decides to become a pastry chef. If she chooses to quit baking and puts all her focus on politicking, the late 2000-teens are gonna be mighty interesting.

How does someone replace a person like Gwatney? Any D party leader who backs Pryor (and Ross) needs a very long vacation or a change in party altogether.

Bill Gwatney is doing a good job and Linda is one of the good guys. Anyway, DBI, the delegates have to vote the way the popular vote has dictated ... on the first vote. After that, they can vote the way they want.

Which is why some people don't want a brokered convention. There are a lot of delegates that have stated they'll vote the way the popular vote went...the first time...then vote for who they really want. That's when the real fun begins...and each candidate must make their case then. I think we should have a real convention, where the nominee is selected after several votes.

Pat won it. Chesterfield claimed she was unbought.

Arkansas Red -
Your "obamaist" shared the Nobel Prize with a "clintonite" who shares the exact opposite opinion. Did you read the whole article or just a carefully "selected" section?
Lord Trimble shared the Nobel Peace Prize with John Hume, leader of the nationalist Social Democratic and Labour Party, in 1998. This is what Mr. Hume had to say:
"I am quite surprised that anyone would suggest that Hillary Clinton did not perform important foreign policy work as First Lady," the statement said."
"I can state from firsthand experience that she played a positive role for over a decade in helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland. She visited Northern Ireland, met with very many people and gave very decisive support to the peace process.
"There is no doubt that the people of Northern Ireland think very positively of Hillary Clinton's support for our peace process, due to her visits to Northern Ireland and her meetings with so many people. In private she made countless calls and contacts, speaking to leaders and opinion makers on all sides, urging them to keep moving forward."

Have fun in Denver. It's going to make Chicago '68 look like a picnic.
There will be riots in the streets and carnage in the convention hall, with both sides battling for control of the floor. Hillary has the edge in this type of battle, and she will have guards posted backstage to keep Obama off of the podium.
One plausible scenario - Hillary delivers her acceptance speech to a half-empty hall at 3 AM, while Obama's supporters are outside, puking their guts out from the tear gas.
Afterwards, the Arkansas delegation will have a rasslin match to see who brings home the standard.

Bill Gwatney in my mind is the bluest Democrat in Arkansas. We need more true believers of his caliber.
Anyone who makes snarkey comments about him and his dedication to things Democratic just doens't know this man.
Give 'em hell, Bill.

Well if true.. that's nice..but we Arkansans have the Blue Dog DLC, pro torturing, pro needless war, anti choice, republi-dems in office.. So I stand by my original question/comment and I will add..is he competent (clearly not if he is as blue as some seem to believe) to why is he not being replaced?

A sitting Chair should not be in these races. Gwatney likely promised it to her and Pat (who was Obama's state chair I believe) wanted it too. I say let the people vote and we'll see who gets it.

I like this bit from slydog's article:
Steven King, a negotiator with Lord Trimble's Ulster Unionist Party, argued that Mrs Clinton might even have helped delay the chances of peace. "She was invited along to some pre-arranged meetings but I don't think she exactly brought anybody together that hadn't been brought together already," he said. Mrs Clinton was "a cheerleader for the Irish republican side of the argument", he added.
"She really lost all credibility when on Bill Clinton's last visit to Northern Ireland [in December 2000] when she hugged and kissed [Sinn Fein leaders] Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness."
What fabulous judgment she displayed there. Who amongst us wouldn't give a terrorist (http://tinyurl.com/6zszs) like Martin McGuinness a big hug and a smackeroo? Embracing terrorists is certainly emblematic of what sound foreign policy judgment Senator Clinton has. She'll make such a fine president.

Gaddis -
Glad you can read. The ENTIRE article from the Telegraph was anti-Clinton EXCEPT for the comments from John Hume.
Would you expect any other kind of comment from anyone from the UUP like King and Trimble?
How many US Presidents did Yassir Arafat kiss? How many world leaders?
That's how you make peace with someone Gaddis - a kiss.
