Big flood update

A reliable source just called in to say that Jack's Resort, the fishing dock on the White River north of Mountain View, is under water thanks to heavy rains that have fallen on Arkansas since yesterday, swelling the rivers in the northern counties. Mountain View reported 12 inches of rain; towns in Newton and Searcy counties had more than 10 inches.

Two men are missing: one in Stone County whose car was found near Timbo and the other in Washington County. The Arkansas Department of Emergency Services reports that three cars were swept down the Buffalo River, but no one has been reported missing.

Up to 100 people have been evacuated from the Oil Trough area in Independence County and 50 people have been evacuated from Hardy and homes along the Spring River in Sharp County.

The fellow in Washington County just west of the city of West Fork is presumed dead. His truck was found today at 10:00 AM in the creek. He was a neighbor of a good friend.

Water up to the roofs of the buildings at Jack's

I live only 9 miles away from White River, Izard County. The water only lacks about a couple feet being over some light poles, as you're looking from the bridge going into Stone County. About a quarter of Guion, AR is under water right now. Folks were moving out. We had our last big flood like this back in 1982.

Heard on the news tonight that Oil Trough is totally isolated, no way in or out!

White Buffalo Resort at Buffalo City has lots of damage. The office is under water and the kamper cabins are floating.

I just got back from an attempted rescue mission. Kayaker stranded on the Kings River. the last 40 yards were impossible, so I turned around and called 911..so far about 20 people have shown up but not one rescue boat... my rain gauge cracked in the last ice storm, so I had no idea we got about 11 inches of rain... taking a photo would be moot all the normal high water marks for scale are now under water.

It's bad everywhere. I have relatives all over the place and they are all safe, but here's the latest:
White River is overflowed, all the creeks are flooding, several houses are partially under water, and a woman and child almost drowned this morning in Batesville.
Hardy is flooded, as is downtown Cherokee Village. Calico Rock has major damage. Highways all over are closed.
I did not live in Arkansas in 1982, but people say this is worse.

Here's a shot someone took of the Buffalo River at Hwy 65 bridge. The water was over 30 feet there (it's closed when it reaches 12.5 feet). The water is nearly touching the bottom of the bridge.
