Central cheerleading suit dropped

The parents of a Central High cheerleader who sued the school district after she failed to make the squad last school year have filed a motion to drop their appeal, according to an email LRSD attorney Chris Heller sent to district administrators Monday afternoon.
This ends the suit, filed by one-time mayoral candidate Bill Walker and his wife on behalf of their daughter, who is on the squad this year. The suit alleged that cheerleading sponsors didn't allow for the girl's attention deficit disorder when she tried out for the squad in the 2006-07 school year. It also said that the squad's custom of practicing at a private gym in West Little Rock was discriminatory, even though the sponsors made arrangements for girls who didn't have transportation or couldn't afford the gym's fees. The suit asked that the sponsors be replaced, among other things.
The school board had considered settling the suit, but never voted on the issue after supporters of the squad -- including both black and white cheerleaders -- packed a board meeting and asked the board to leave the squad alone.

What will the Walker's think of next to create a spectacle and end it after they have milked it for attention (and money)?

Hey, just saw the ad pop up for The Rep's show featuring young talented people from Little Rock, Clarksville and other communities. Now these are some young people worth talking about!
Talented. Determined. Dedicated to improving their craft. These are students from all backgrounds and cities who support each other and demonstrate how a diverse group of young people can and will work together to create a marvelous performance. Nicole Capri and The Rep deserve thanks and a standing ovation for their support and help to nurture Arkansas' young talent. Bravo.

Just popped up on the NY Times website: "Dad Guilty of Putting Baby in Microwave"

Believe you me, this is the last story I'll be reading today or any other day! Sorta takes all the wind out of an ugly cheer leading story...don't it?

Hey, Dbi, doncha know the devil made him do it and the mom is standing by her man????
Oh, yeah, they are from Arkansas, he was some kind of wanna be preacher..........
pro'bly the kind that handle snakes..................
Another damn joke and black eye for Arkansas.

This suit is a prime example of why teachers don't do more for students. It is a prime example of why we don't have discipline in schools, or fail children who don't learn. These parents will always wonder why their child never learned what she was supposed to in school. Of course the student will make straight A's the rest of the time she's in public school. Would you want to fail her? If she was my student I'd pass her no matter how poorly she writes, does math, etc.

Don't sue teachers. You may win the suit, but every teacher in the building will withold knowledge from your kid, and you'll never know it. They won't correct their papers well, they'll be afraid to fail them, or discipline them, or talk with them about improving their scores and homework, or work with your child on after school projects. In short, your child won't learn nearly as much. And then, you AND your child lose. Big time. For the rest of your lives.

While we're on the subject on dropped lawsuits: Does anyone know what happened to the lawsuit that John Walker was supposed to bring on behalf of ex-Central High principal Hickman? I figure Walker discovered that Hickman was guilty of everything he was accused of doing plus some other stuff. But did we ever hear Walker admit this? Of course not.
