Are we sheep?

A new New York Times poll says that an astonishing 81 percent of Americans think the nation has lost its way. Its the largest percentage ever since the Times started the poll in the 1990s. From the report:

"A majority of nearly every demographic and political group — Democrats and Republicans, men and women, residents of cities and rural areas, college graduates and those who finished only high school — say the United States is headed in the wrong direction. Seventy-eight percent of respondents said the country was worse off than five years ago; just 4 percent said it was better off.

"The dissatisfaction is especially striking because public opinion usually hits its low point only in the months and years after an economic downturn, not at the beginning of one. Today, however, Americans report being deeply worried about the country even though many say their own personal finances are still in fairly good shape.

B-a-a-h, b-a-a-h.

Yes sir, yes sir. Three bags full.

Good Article in Huffington site in case you may have missed it -- Want a Taste of the McCain Presidency? You've Already Had One

Our country is facing two serious crises right now, one foreign -- the disastrous war in Iraq -- and one domestic -- a mismanaged economy on the brink of collapse.

Much was -- rightly -- made last week of McCain's "McCain Moment" which shone a spotlight on how clueless he is about the region. But given McCain's foreign policy views, it's hard to know whether we should be more afraid when he's confused and clueless or when he's thinking clearly and coherently.
Etc.

How sophisticated are we, really?

A funny short video that will give you pause.

This video often stimulates debates about Darwinism vs. Creationism which is totally besides the point.

It also moves some people to state "fact" that Man is made in God's image and therefore has no similarities to monkeys at all.

But really...to paraphrase Forest Gump:

"Monkeys are what monkeys do."

If human beings really don't want to be compared to monkeys, maybe we should focus our efforts on working towards becoming something better.

And this 81% figure represents a time when Democrats are supposed to be running things. Go ahead, vote for Pryor and Lincoln again...

I agree, those 81% are definitely sheep.

More than 80 percent, huh? Wouldn't that number have to include a lot of people who voted for Bush? It would be nice if these people would replace the W stickers on their cars with abject apologies to the rest of us.

Sheep or just stung when they pay at the pump. My SUV driving friends definitely have hit the point where they wish they had something more economical (gas/diesel mileage) and notice it every time they pay. They also drive less and go to more extremes to save a few pennies, including people whom I know don't have a problem affording it.

However, the impact of higher gas prices and higher prices from fuel increases is hitting us all; and none of us are happy when we see our wallet deflating at an accelerated rate.

So call us sheep all you want, Red! We call ourselves "fiscally conservative!" Or maybe just "fiscal realist" with an acute sense of the state of our wallets.

Spunkrat,

What?

"Democrats are supposed to be running things"

Right now:

Senate, 49 Dems, 49 Repus, 2 independants.

Congress, 233 Dems, 202 Repubs.

White house, 0 Dems, 1 Repub.

So recap the numbers
Senate, a tie
Congress 15% lead by dems
White House 100% lead by repubs

How is this "running things"?

Plus this is just 2 of the last 7 years. Previous to 2006 Republicans held Senate, Congress and White House.

I definately had hoped for better since 2006 but the numbers do not insinuate "running things".

Perhaps, Red, you can assure those of us in the 81% group how much better we have it now than, oh, say at the beginning of the Bush presidency. Or for that matter, anytime over the past seven years.
Be specific please.

Republicans are nothing more than a criminal cabal. They are holding American troops They demand we bail out the criminal sub-prime robber-lenders while refusing to help homeowners in crisis rework their loans to adjusted steady rates or allow bankruptcy.

As fascist as the Republican party is... Democrats have their demons too, and nothing will improve nor will accountability happen unless Democrats admit it to themselves and rid themselves of the worst Pryor Ross's while replacing them with better/genuine Democrats.. Follow the money which is now pouring into the D party like never before. We must not let the folks who bought out the GOPers screw up our party/country from within.

CongressCritters now have as much as 196 million personal dollars invested in MIC.. Just how likely do you think they are to vote down the most profitable no bid contracts which pump up the value of their war stocks?

Mike Ross could be the next Don Young if we let him..

Perhaps, Red, you can assure those of us in the 81% group how much better we have it now than, oh, say at the beginning of the Bush presidency.<<< by Doigotta

Allow me to step to the platform on this one.
First, you don't see anymore buildings being struck by airplanes. We're Winning You See!
Second, it could be worse you know. Your lattes could cost $6 but Red and Bush have held prices down.
Third, Walmart is nothing but "Live Better!"
Fourth, Red & Gang got together and raised minimum wage.
Fifth, insurance companies and oil companies are finally profitable in America. We're strong again.
Sixth, Mission accomplished!
Finally, as any good Red can tell you, if we had sent more troops into Iraq we would only have more casualties. So there's a big savings there.

"As far as history goes and all of these quotes about people trying to guess what the history of the Bush administration is going to be, you know, I take great comfort in knowing that they don't know what they are talking about, because history takes a long time for us to reach."- George W. Bush, Fox News Sunday, Feb10, 2008

I definately had hoped for better since 2006 but the numbers do not insinuate "running things".<<

Citizen Home let me be the first to congratulate you for bringing us up to date on the reality of things.
