How dumb are Ark. Democrats?
Dumb enough, in the case of several legislators, to raise money for Republican legislators. Dumb enough, in some cases, to do so even after having been targeted for defeat by a Republican PAC. Brummett writes about this today, including Democratic Party Chair Bill Gwatney's unhappiness with the absence of party loyalty/discipline. He's not unhappy enough to favor election of legislative leadership from party caucuses, though.
Some day a bright Democrat will wake up and realize that Republicans have influence far beyond their numbers thanks to the current system. The 25 percent House caucus can constitute almost 50 percent of a winning speaker candidate's votes, which can translate into a lot of committee power for a faction demonstrably out of step with overall voter wishes.

Comments
With all this talk about bipartisanship and working together, I haven't seen any of the Republican Representatives or Senators hosting fundraisers this year for Democrats with Republican opponents. I do recall they had a 527 taking the hide off some Democrats last time, and I think we'll see it again this year.

I think we should pass a law making it a capital crime to be a Republican, and I expect this blog to lead the way to enactment. And bring back the electric chair to enforce it.

Is Brummett or Max going to credit ol Orval in their story? I am not saying I invented all these ideas...but it is
Obama-esque Plagiarism I do believe. I am the one who pointed out CFAF targeted these very Democrats (who were attending the Repub fundraiser) in 2006.
I am the one who pointed out the DPA-- along with Petrus and other Caucus leaders-- spent over a 100k in independent expenditures to help push back the CFAF attacks (even though Brummett''s sloppy journalism in 2006 credited Greg Hale and the Beebe coordinated campaign) and helped extend the Democratic majority in the legislature to 75 out of 100.
Pretty sure I suggested that the Democrats need to start picking the Speaker out of a Democratic caucus.
They also need to create a House Caucus PAC that is consistently well funded, weighs in with significant money in tight general election races, BUT also holds the Democratic line with these legislators once elected.
Gwatnney has been a great Party Chairman but he does NOT need a media strategy to guilt these legislators in to acting like Democrats...
ALL he needs is an aggressive and very well funded House Caucus and/or recruit the Pryor kids to lend some seed money for a State Leg focused PAC. Help the legislators when they are in tough races and then if one of them crosses the line once elected MAKE an example out of them. I PROMISE all this Brotherhood bullshit and across the aisle buddy buddy Speaker coalition crap will disappear instantly.

This from one of those who supported
a REPUBLICAN for leader of the Senate.
Max, now you want only Democrats to
pick the legislative leaders? Better
late than never I suppose.

"How dumb are Ark. Democrats?"
Some were dumb enough to support
Republican David Bisbee over a
Democrat just because he had
more seniority.

I think a new, working and workable definition is in store for DPA.
They have no principles.
They have no platform.
They exist by a nebulous system of "beliefs."
I realize some of the women involved in DPA have more balls than the goobers so GOB club is out.

Go Orval! you are correct. Max--send a note to Brummett on this....or better yet, Brummett, when you read this--give Orval credit. He did make the point immediately when the news broke.
Yes, you do have a larger readership than good ole Orv' but is there not at least some semblence of a desire to give him a shout out for the idea for your column?? 6 columns a week is a lot of material--and dont get me wrong I read them all--but just give a little credit where due.
You have written in the past about blogs, comments, etc., and their influence. Do the right thing here.
Kudos Orval. You were right in your original comments, as are you correct here.

Orval.. Quick question for ya.. Why push for Pryor money when he is a part of the problem (many problems),, like when he supported Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut For Lieberman Party after Joe lost his D primary in '06? Also, what about Senator Lincoln or the AR congress-critters?
I think expecting Mark to fund against the very ideals he practices should be reexamined. Then again, perhaps, pushing him to do this will help show more Arkansans who he truly is.
