Huckstering
A call from a Republican campaigner nudges me to link David Sanders' column this morning for Stephens Media. "Flabbergasting," is one of the words used by my source. Not the column, but an event mentioned.
Mike Huckabee, you may know, is co-hosting a fund-raiser for Sen. John McCain Friday at Little Rock's Capital Hotel. A few die-hard Huckabites think he's still got a shot at the No. 2 slot on the McCain ticket.
So, what in the Sam Hill is Huckabee doing holding a meeting about his political future this very week, a meeting that seems predicated on a belief that McCain won't do well this election season and that the way will be clear for The Huckster to run in 2012? As Sanders put it, recounting a conversation with one of Huckabee's "loyal allies:"
Did he think that Huckabee would land the coveted second spot on the ticket? Not likely. So then what of Huckabee's future chances if McCain were to win this fall with someone else filling the No. 2 spot - a very real possibility? In response, he discounted the chance for a McCain victory, which for this guy wasn't bad news. As he saw it, McCain's demise would create a vacuum that Huckabee would then fill.
A couple of other Huckabee supporters, with whom I inquired about Huckabee's political future, also downplayed the possibility of McCain winning in November. In addition, they volunteered information about a meeting that occurred Monday at the Capital Hotel, at which the former governor met with folks emerging as his steering committee - a virtual deus ex machina - comprised of some of his largest donors and political confidants. Apparently many such meetings are in the offing at which Huckabee's future plans would be vetted, set and implemented.
It makes one wonder who this crew will be rooting for in November?
McCain people in Arkansas have checked this out and confirmed the Huckabee pep rally occurred and that it was attended by a sizeable contingent of Huckaphants. Are they P.O.'ed? You could say that.
They say McCain has a temper, don't they? Maybe he'll put Huck at the kiddie table Friday. Or back in the kitchen.
French, who all was in attendance?

Dear God,
Please pull the appropriate strings that would land your faithful servant Mike a cable televangelical show based in California into which I will never tune. Please watch over him and his family as they and their giant U-Haul full of loot move to that great state and settle forever, and ever.
Amen

Ok Hugh, getting out the old god-meter here...ok ..well, as usual the needle didn't move after holding the device up to the comp screen next to your post.
The god-meter needle has moved any since that time I had to go into a bank vault.

I'm done with Huck, he's old news. Let him continue to make a very good living sucking in the overly religious, they deserve each other.
I've been thinking that one way old man McCain might pull off a win is if he combines signing statements Bush could fill out in order to run with a ringer from China. It would work like this.....Bush the sub, will be ordered to write up a signing statement saying that because we're at WAR, for this next election only, a Chinese citizen would be allowed to run for office in the United of States. It's part of that coalition of the swilling stuff.
So Grandpa Munster picks some guy like Wen Jiabao, the current number 2 man in China, to be his running mate. The team of McCain-Jiabao won't be too popular with the solid Bush 28%, but that's where part B of the signing statement comes in. Part B says just because we are at WAR and there are Tersts everywhere, in this coming election only....every Red Chinese in the world will be allowed to vote in the November, 4th US election.
I think the final vote will be something like this:
Obama/Clinton 92,040,610
McCain/Jiabao 1,321,851,888 *** ABC projects that John Herman Munster McCain is the winner!
Damn you Karl Rove!!!!

Again, Huckabee began as a side show and he will stay a side show. His loyal following? They just haven't seen enough side shows.

How can we be done with him, DBI, when he keeps putting himself out there in our faces?
MSNBC looooooves him and I just read he's written a new book about his run for prez, to
be published next Fall. Someone pray tell me when he has had time to write a book??
Same publisher who is *doing* Donald Duck Rummy's book of lies, would not tell what they
are paying the Huck

Hell, you got the wrong idea. Stroke Huck's ego. Soon it will collide with McGrump's temper and you'll see Repug body parts scattered all over. When McGrump tells Huck-a-buck to shove off, Huck will have a tantrum and then sulk through this rest of the year, including November, doing his best to scuttle McGrump's chances so that Huck can offer the party salvation, his brand, in 4 years. Watching this happen can be more fun than the Demos current choreographed cage match.
The pundits love drama and so it won't take long for them to get addicted to reporting on and goading Huck and McGrump to more bitter episodes, like they have with the O'cultists and the Over the Hill bunch.

Repugnant.
Huckabee is the political version of those contestants on reality shows who, after the show is over, do everything in their power to stay just a little longer in the limelight.
Why can't these guys do a 'Johnny Carson'? You know, come in, do a great job, build some respect, and quitely leave the game with respect intact.

I'll take a whack at your question Scottie.
First of all Johnnie Carson was an entertainer. Most politicians are entertainers but they must think they are "serving the public" in some far-fetched manner. Huck has additional problems. In addition to being a needy person, an entertainer, and politician, Huck is ordained and anointed by god. Recall the spirit of the lord producing those overwhelming primary results? Something "greater than us" was at work according to Huck. Huck's wife is not wealthy like McBush's, his father/mother were not wealthy like Bushco and he never made a train-load of money like Romney. So, he's still needy, political, and pushed onward by god. He can't quit. God just won't allow it not to mention Jethrine and her security needs.
